If I missed your favorite, feel free to add him or her. Here's a list of the choices that I could think of.

Peter Tork (The Monkees)
Coach Ernie Pantusso (Cheers)
Woody Boyd (Cheers)
Lowell Mather (Wings)
Matthew Brock (NewsRadio)
Tony Banta (Taxi)
Chrissy Snow (Three's Company)
Joey (Friends)
Waldo Faldo (Family Matters)
Cody Lambert (Step by Step)

I'm sure there are more. These are all my mind could come up with currently.

I agree with those, and I add Homer Simpson and Ralph Wiggum from The Simpsons and Reverend Jim from Taxi to the list.

My favorite would be Coach Pantusso on Cheers. He was just so loyal and lovable. He and Sam had a nice relationship.

I also like Dauber on Coach. He's got that dummy with a heart thing going on. He has some hilarious one-liners.

Also on Coach, I don't know if Luther Van Dam qualifies as a dummy, but he is laugh out loud funny sometimes.

Lamont from Sanford and Son,of course. Fred always called him Dummy.

How about these guys? They practically invented the concept!

Gomer Pyle
Gilligan
Hank Kimball ("Green Acres")
Jethro Bodine ("Beverly Hillbillies")
Barney Fife ("Andy Griffith")
Ed Norton ("Honeymooners")
Lumpy Rutherford ("Leave It To Beaver")
Maynard G Krebs ("Dobie Gillis")
Barney Rubble ("Flintstones")
Maxwell Smart ("Get Smart")

All these guys are great at it, yet without a doubt, the dumbest TV character of all time has to be Big Bird from "Sesame Street". He's been on that show since the beginning, almost 35 years, and he STILL doesn't know the alphabet! How much dumber can you get?

Favorite Dummy:
Ed Norton - The Honeymooners
Mallory Keaton - Family
Gloria Bunker-Stivic - All In the Family
Arthur Harmon - Maude
Ralph Furley - Three's Company The clothes told it all
Dwayne Schneider - One Day at a Time

Correction on Lamont Sanford. He was not a dummy. Fred called him one. Look at that relatoniship in its proper prospective there was a major co-dependency they had on each other. Lamont was very smart but he had the umbilical cord tied to his father that prevented him from venturing out. Very dysfunctinal father-son relationship but they truly loved each other.

I agree with the previous poster about Kramer on "Seinfeld." What I like about him is that he has a lot of ideas, and theories, and schemes, and if you're not paying much attention, he sounds really smart. However, if you do pay any attention to what he's saying, he's a complete idiot. Ed Norton on "The Honeymooners" is pretty good too, as is Gunther Toody on "Car 54 Where are You?"
