View Full Version : Guitar Players
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 04-23-2003, 10:31 PM How many of you play guitar, and when did you start? I am wanting to take lessons sometime in the near future, like maybe get a guitar for Christmas or something. I'm 15, which may seem kind of old to just begin, but I really would like to learn to play one. But, I read Kurt Cobain was 14 when he started playing, so I dunno. Just curious.
Janice 04-23-2003, 10:38 PM Go for it. Good luck! :guitar:
drew1 04-23-2003, 11:09 PM i was 14 when i got mine, i don't play it though, i stick to my drums.... because drums just rock! but for me the guitar was hard to play because i have small hands! but yeah like janice said Go for it!
Elvis Fonzie Dean 04-23-2003, 11:14 PM I started playing at 13.I'm 15.I play the electric guitar which is the same thing just wanted to tell everyone.I've almost been playing for two years. The last two months has mostly been basic stuff which i'm bored of, but I should practice ALOT more so maybe if I did I can get on to the music besides the standard books again.
You should get one if you want it.Just practice hard everyday!Good luck!
fr00ti 04-24-2003, 01:03 AM I started playing when I was 11, and Im 16 now. I'm self taught mostly and everyone says im incredibly good for being self taught. I have 3 guitars, and I know a TON of songs. On sunday I have a recital and Im playing "Masterpiece" by Carolyn Dawn Johnson. But any way Ive played for 6 years and I think im pretty good :D
Mossopp 04-24-2003, 04:41 PM I've been playing bass guitar since I was 14. I've never taken lessons so everything I know is self-taught. I've been told I'm really good - I guess I'm OK but I'm not amazing at it. I was in a band for a while when I was in school but we broke up.
Blair85 04-24-2003, 05:25 PM I got an electric guitar for Christmas. Unfortunately, I don't get to play much but I can play a little. I've learned how to play some tabs and I can play Smoke on the Water & I HEard it to the Grapevine. My guitar keeps getting out of tune though-probably from where I run into it & the cats knock it over all of the time.
*PinkLady* 04-24-2003, 07:15 PM I always thought it would really be cool to play the guitar, but my mom and dad wouldn't pay for lessons. I still want to, but 17 is kind of old to start playing.

Not really, unless you want to make a career out of it. For a hobby and your own personal enjoyment, you're never too old. You'd be pretty well accomplished by the time you're 30.
Being an older student may actually benefit you because you're more mature and focused now than you were 10 or so years ago. You'd be doing it for yourself and not for your parents or anyone else.
**end of lecture** :D
AllIWantIsYourClutch 04-24-2003, 08:10 PM I have an acoustic guitar and I'm in the process of teaching myself....yah thats not going so well.
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 04-24-2003, 10:03 PM My mom and dad know a place where I could get lessons, so I wouldnt' have to teach myself or anything. And I'm already pretty good with music. So maybe if I do take lessons by the times I'm 18 or 19 I could be a halfway decent player.
pandora_spocks 04-24-2003, 10:06 PM My brother taught himself and I tried for awhile, but couldn't get the grasp of it. I have no musical talent - I think I should stick with designing web sites. :p
ABlairican Pie 04-25-2003, 11:04 PM I started playing when I was 14, by learning Tony Iommi, Alex Lifeson, Jeff Beck, and Michael Schenker.:guitar:
britt britt 04-26-2003, 04:17 PM I'm 14 and i just started playing the guitar this year. My Uncle tought me a few cords and I think i'm going to take lessons in the fall.

Faith 04-26-2003, 07:21 PM I just started playing this year... My brother and my boyfriend are teaching me... lol I feel sorry them, I am a bad student. Anyways my brother says that I am alot better than he was when he first started.
My brother is pretty good at it, and my boyfriend is awesome. anyways Hannah I say if you wanna do it, go for it.
shavelyLBC34 04-26-2003, 10:04 PM I bought a guitar around christmas and took lessons for like 2 months just so I could know enough to really teach myself. I don't play as much as I'd like to, but 15 is not too old to learn...trust me.
