View Full Version : I hate The Cosby Show!
Anna4 04-23-2003, 05:58 PM I hate The Cosby Show! It is so overrated. I tried watching it a few times and i was shocked at how popular it was considering it was so unfunny and boring. I'm tired of watching the cosby show coming up next coming up next i don't care i hate it thats all i see at nick at nite. Can someone who likes this show tell me why exactly they like it so much huh?
Chocoholic 04-23-2003, 06:01 PM I don't really hate it, but I definitely think N@N airs it way too much. Four episodes a night is too many. Plus, it airs on at least three other stations in my area. It should be given a rest for a little while.

I agree, I like the show and sometimes I watch it when there is nothing else to watch, but the show is a bit overrated but only because Nick-at-Nite overplays it. I think everybody is getting a little tired of it, and it's four airings each night, which is plenty enough. Nick-at-Nite is attached to The Cosby Show, and there's really no stopping them from airing it, they keep airing the show in their marathons, as if they can't get enough of it. Also, they are even going farther with Bill Cosby by adding new cartoon Fatherhood, which is expected to come sometime in the future, enough is enough, LOL.
Scoobiedoo30 04-23-2003, 06:30 PM I like The Cosny Show I watch it on

Aaron
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 04-23-2003, 06:31 PM I don't HATE the show, but I really don't find it funny...a little strange if anything. I don't know why Nick @ Nite is so obsessed with the show and Bill Cosby. Don't get me wrong, Bill Cosby's talented and all...but he's not God and Nick @ Nite needs to stop worshiping him and his show. There's OTHER shows out there.
Anna4 04-23-2003, 06:40 PM Aaron honey, can you tell us why you like The Cosby Show?
Scoobiedoo30 04-23-2003, 06:45 PM He makes me Laugh
Aaron
*PinkLady* 04-23-2003, 06:45 PM He likes the show because he's entitled to like whatever he wants.
I also don't like the Cosby Show very much. It's not a bad show, but I see it waaaay too much.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 04-23-2003, 07:40 PM Im a fan of the Cosby Show and always will be, but the way N@N has put it on a throne has gotten sickening.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
And in May ANOTHER freaking WEEK LONG marathon of Cosby Show. It's ridiculous. Sad really.

Maybe they should just get rid of all their other shows and play Cosby all night long. I bet they could stick in an episode of Cheers at 5:30AM once in a while, no biggie, right?
I haven't had N@N since November of 2000, so I've never really seen the downfall of N@N, but from what I've heard and what I saw last winter, it was horrible. I got to watch an episode of Cheers a while back when I was at my aunt's house in Chicago and totally noticed the change right away. New on screen logo, smushed credits, commercials advertising Cosby. I'm moving in August to an area which recieves N@N, so I'll finally be in the loop with the rest of you. Hopefully by then, it won't turn into a 9 hour Cos-fest every night of the week.
Janice 04-24-2003, 06:29 PM I used to like Cosby but they overplayed it, and now I can't stand it. I hate how, on every show, Bill does this stupid bit, where he drones on and on for about 5 minutes and mugs for the camera. I don't know if I'm explaining it right, but it bugs me.
The best example I can give is when he was showing Elvin how to fake making dinner for the family--the demonstration in the kitchen.
Crimson and Clover 04-24-2003, 06:40 PM i dont like the Cosby Show either.
Ravey 04-24-2003, 08:29 PM I LUV THE COSBY SHOW!!!!!! Olivia is so cute! :D
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 04-24-2003, 10:25 PM Janice, I know what you're talking about lol. Bill Cosby DOES do that...and ppl, I admitt he CAN be funny and the show CAN be funny but...wtf, WHY on EARTH is Nick @ Night so obsessed? And they're going to do a marathon for it? WHY?!?! And did anyone ever check out Nick @ Nite's website? This is all it is:
The Cosby show
Schedules
(not to mention that stupid "be the bug" thing...hmm I want to see someones head in the corner of the screen.)
Gee, I guess everyone who watches Nick @ Nite watches it for the Cosby Show because they just ever so much want it to be played OVER and OVER again. Nick @ Nite needs to give it a break, they don't know how many people they're disappointing...and they're ruining the show as well.
The biyatch has gotten out her anger, thank you. :)

My God.
DarleneIllyria 04-24-2003, 11:08 PM I hate it too. They ran it into the ground.
*PinkLady* 04-25-2003, 03:26 PM Another marathon? Are you freaking kidding me? :barf:
PaulaAbdulFan 04-26-2003, 10:12 PM Man..I hate how N@N treats The cosby show like its the best show ever. they have like cosby marathons every week.
And im not tryin to dis..but his other show on N@N...Kids say the darndest things...why is that on there? I thought Nick at nite played TV classics. Kids say the darndest things was like 2 years ago. thats not classic. :)
Anna4 04-26-2003, 11:06 PM Nick at Nite always puts Cosby on because it has no life. When the Cosby show is not there will always be a commercial for it somewhere during the break.
Robert Tilton 04-28-2003, 03:46 AM I wonder if the Nick Allison's of the world will have a fit if Cosby stays on all year long?
Fran Fan 04-29-2003, 02:33 AM I wonder if Nick will be airing old re-runs of Jello comercials soon...
Hey, anyone up for some "Leonard Part 6!"

I can't believe this! I really would just love to know who put this curse on N@N. Why did N@N take this dreadful turn? Am I right--N@N was pretty decent up until the last couple of years? I usually pin the downfall of N@N on TV Land. But TV Land has been around a long while. Maybe it just took time though for TV Land to get huge so N@N could plummet. I just don't know. Modern TV Classics. YUCK. Okay, I'm over it. At least introduce other modern tv classics. Many I love. 4 episodes of Cosby Show is unnecessary. 4 episodes of any show is unnecessary. But must stay on topic here--let's just talk about The Cosby Show:
Okay, feel free after I'm done here to blast me for the incoming rude comments:
How many people were on crack in the 80s to let this show be tops in the ratings nearly every year? Of course, drugs have nothing to do with the ratings. But it's my way of saying, this show was never good enough to be so popular. Am I missing something? Something must just draw us all in. Because I've seen every episode. I don't like the show, but I've sat through it time and time again. It's all insanity. What's the appeal? Not funny. Not clever, not remotely realistic. But this is just my opinions, and remember, I have seen all the episodes. So basically I have no room to really talk. Oh well, I'll say it, "I don't think Bill Cosby is funny at all." He's made me laugh like once. My neighbor's dog could do that, and he had no tricks.
Anyhoo, I got scads more to say about N@N and such, but I'll bite it now.
Anna4 04-29-2003, 05:59 PM Yes i agree. When i found out that this was number one in the ratings for several seasons i was shocked. Exactly what was on that allowed this show to be on? Was there nothing else on TV. What is going through those peoples minds that are watching this? Number one? I'm still shocked. And whats this i hear it's doing good at nick at nite? Get a life all of you who are watching 4 episodes a night.

You said it, Anna4.
"I Lucy Lucy" was tops in the 50s. The 60s I'm not sure. "All in the Family" dominated the 70s, and in the 90s, I think Seinfeld and ER battled back and forth. (They were both always very high.) I understand how all these shows got up there. Even Seinfeld, which I haven't seen a load of, I understand. But the Cosby Show in the 80s? My confusion over that one is as large as my confusion over N@N going down the toilet. And that's a lot of confusion. My favorite show of the 80s, "St Elsewhere," paved the way for ER, which is always high , yet I believe St. Elsewhere's never cracked above 49 . 49! It won 13 Emmys and nominated for 60-some, but no one was watching. TV in the 80s was goofy. A lot of shows were pretty goofy too. The Cosby show had appeal somehow, and I guess competition wasn't fierce enough.
Chocoholic 04-29-2003, 09:19 PM The Cosby Show was #1 in the 1980's? I thought Cheers was.
Anyway, as a kid growing up in the 80's, I loved The Cosby Show, but now, I don't think it's all that funny. Some of the earlier episodes are funny, but overall, I think it's time to retire the show from syndication for awhile. It's been played to death.
Cashodeen 04-30-2003, 12:25 AM This is a good website. It shows the top 20 shows in the nielsen ratings for every year.
http://www.angelfire.com/ny2/televisioncity/ratings.html
The Cosby Show was #3 in 84-85, it's first season. The next four years it was #1. During it's 6th season, it went to #2, when Roseanne was at #1. So it pretty much kicked butt in the mid/late 80s. You'll have to check out where Cheers was during all that time. Suprisingly, Cheers was only 1 once, in 90-91, and The Cosby show was #5 then. The Cosby show was in the top 20 during it's last year. Even most avid Cosby Show fans will say the show stunk in it's last year. And it managed to hold out at #16! Now that's devotion.

Eight times a day? What's the deal? Aren't htere others things to do besides watching TCB eight times in one day? I would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of it if I watched it that much.
YES. Aaron, can I call you a martyr? ;) Gosh, I couldn't even watch my favoritest show in the whole wide world 8 times a day, 5 days a week. I've had my fill after a one-day marathon. I'd love to see what you'd be willing to do for Benson. You may be able to hold some sort of record!
Kris10m 04-30-2003, 02:29 PM It seems to me that N@N is acutally doing a disservice to the Cosby Show, by completely running it into the ground! I mean, I was never a HUGE fan of the show, but I did think some of the earlier episodes were funny. Now, I almost can't stand it, I am so sick of it. And then, to top it off, they push back newer shows to later timeslots to make room for the 4 episodes of Cosby every night. Enough already, N@N!
