Okay guys, here's the deal. This is them as I picture they would be in high school. This will be a little different than normal. So, guys, meet the senior class of 2004.




Magda Ramirez Senior Year Resolutions

I will not get straight A’s all year. It’s bad for a person’s image. Or I won’t get straight A’s all second semester. Or if I do, I won’t tell anyone about it.

I will not butt into Jinny’s business, unless she’s going to jump off the roof, or go out with a loser, or wear that grotesque dark green nail polish with matching lipstick.

I will continue to be taller than Lily and still weigh one pound less than Jinny.

I will not cheat on Gabriel Herrera no matter how tempted I am.

I will not give any advice no matter how much C.D. needs it.

I will continue to be section leader and captain of the cheerleading squad, even if I have to kill to do it. (Well, maybe not kill.)

I will not fight with Lily.

Jinny Exstead New School Year Resolutions

I will clean my room once every week. Let’s be serious, once every two weeks.

I will continue to be taller than John Jr. and still weigh one pound less than Magda.

I will do my homework if there’s nothing better to do.

I will not think about Theodore Blumenthal every single hour of every single day like I’m doing now. What’s done is done, and I can’t change it.

I will get a new boyfriend. One who really loves me and I love him and it’s not just a chemical attraction. Although, sometimes those are the best kind.

I will continue dragging Dad to his AA meetings no matter how much he resists. My sobriety depends on his.

I will continue to stick up for Casey when John tries to beat the crap out of him.

I will always remember Mom.

Jack Ellis Senior Year

Monroe High School. Monroe. After spending 12 mind numbing year in Sacramento, I’m finally moving on to greener pastures. For the rest of my life, I’m going to have a diploma from Monroe High School. I’ll wear the Monroe colors, red and white. I’ll be a Monroe Bulldog. More like Mud-hole Bullfrog. I picture perfectly manicured green lawns, cute blonde chicks whose names all end in “ie”, sparkling fountains, and group hugs. I don’t picture me. Note to self: Don’t fall for the first girl that comes along.

C.D. De Lorenzo Senior Class of 2004

In my opinion, high school can be summed up in one word: “Hades”. Okay, so maybe it’s not that bad if you’re a senior. I wouldn’t know, I’ve never been a senior before. Maybe I should ask Kyle Martin, who claims that 12th grade was the best 4 years of his life. I don’t know if it’s true or not. I do know for a fact that Jinny is so tired of being chaste. I don’t think she’s “gotten any” all summer. She really needs a boyfriend. Magda and Gabe are still dating. No surprise there. They’ve only been going out since the 7th grade. I broke up with Bryan, the jerk. I wonder if Nate has asked Lily out yet? Maybe he needs a girlfriend. Not that I’d date him or anything…

Raina Washington Sophomore Bulldog Cheerleader

I’m so excited that Jenny and I made the high school squad! Sophomores almost never make it! I guess that means we must be really good. You know that I wasn’t a cheerleader in junior high because of some tainted routines that always ended in my failure, but this year, we actually made it! J I just can’t stop pinching myself. I feel like I’m floating in a dream. Mommy and Wanda made me a cake for finally making it. I’m so excited. GO BULLDOGS!

Nate Basso

High school sucks a butt. I wonder if C.D. has a girlfriend yet?

Part of it. I love those books! I think they're awesome. But it's not gonna be like the whole thing, tho. Ko, I guess I should put a disclaimer on this. Chapter 1: Searching

We've put up with upperclassman's crap for four years so I think it's our turn! We are evil! Lol... So, found a boyfriend yet? I know your breakup with Teddy was kinda rough, so I'll go easy on ya. You really loved him, didn't you? Kinda sux that he left... Oh, hey. Do you want to come over to my house Friday night? I thought we'd rent 'Drumline'. I figure since you're a percussionist... Or in the words of Mr. Smith, a 'concussionist'. Well, I g2g. Lily want to check her e-mail. Oh and Lily says hi.

Jinny Exstead laughed at her friend's e-mail. Magda wasn't usually the one to joke about upperclassmen. She usually just let them go about their business torturing them. She took a long sip of her water and heard the familiar ping of her instant messenger.


HotCDChick13 : Hey, Jin.
SxySftBallSwtHrt : Hey, CD. 'Sup?
HotCDChick13 : All's good. I can't complain. Hey, did Magda send you the notice to wear our camp shirts yet?
SxySftBallSwtHrt : No. I was just about to call her though. Hey, CD, do you know if there are going to be any new guys at school this year? I mean, I know sometimes in the summer you help Mrs. Bailey type the schedules and stuff. So, I thought if NE1 would know, you would.
HotCDChick13 : Hmmm... I think there's a new guy. His name starts with a J. Jeremy or Joseph... I can't remember. Why? Need a boyfriend?
SxySftBallSwtHrt : Yeah... I mean, that's the only way I'm going to get over Teddy. I need to move on with my life. He probably has a girlfriend by now.
HotCDChick13 : Well, hey, do you still have his e-mail address?
SxySftBallSwtHrt : Yeah, I think so. Why?
HotCDChick13 : Well, you know if you had a really good friend who would be willing to do this for you, maybe that really good friend could e-mail Teddy and find out if he has a girlfriend or not. Y'know, if you had a really good friend who would be willing to do that for you..........
SxySftBallSwtHrt : That's a good idea. I'll ask Magda when I call her as soon as I get off here.

Jinny closed the message box and then signed off completely. She stretched and glanced at the clock. 8:37. She yawned and gathered her things for tomorrow at the end of her bed. Magda had a point. They were seniors and it was their time to rule. She grabbed her pajamas, hairbrush, and slippers and headed toward the bathroom. As she stepped into the hall, he heard horrible singing over the running water in the bathroom. "Casey!" she yelled down the hall. "Is John in there?"
Her younger brother looked away from the TV and his bowl of cereal. "Yeah. He just got in, too, so it's going to be a while."
Jinny sighed and then banged on the door. "Come on, John! Other people need to shower, too! Why must you always take your weekly shower whenever I need it?"
The singing abruptly stopped and John Jr. said loudly, "That's why God invented houses with double bathrooms! Use Dad's!" He began singing again. Jinny knew it was hopeless. She hadn't been in her parent's bathroom since she was 14. "Hey, Casey?" She struggled to keep her voice steady. "Umm... I'm gonna go in Dad's bathroom, okay? Keep your eye on the phone." She turned and headed down the hall towards her parent's bedroom. She swallowed hard and pushed the door open. It smelled strongly of alcohol and there were empty bottles lying all around. Clothes lay everywhere, and there was a dead plant on the windowsill. She carefully stepped through the mess and into the bathroom. She flashed back to three years ago. And started to cry. She dropped her things and ran back into the living room.
"Jin, are you okay?" Casey asked her as she collapsed into the recliner.
Jinny looked up at him. "No. I couldn't do it, Casey. I saw Mom and..." She began to sob again.
Casey went to retrieve his sisters things from the bathroom. He sat them on the table. Then went to bang on the door. "John! Hurry up!" The water stopped and a moment later John Exstead Jr. emerged from the bathroom with a towel around his waist. He pushed Casey aside. "Move, jerk." He saw Jinny crying. "What's wrong with her? Did she break a nail?"
"John," Casey bagan. "For once in your pathetic little life, be nice to Jinny, okay? You had some nerve telling her to go in Dad's room, you know how hard that is for her."
John rolled his eyes. "Whatever."
Jinny stood up and sniffed. She grabbed her things from the coffee table. "Thanks, Case. You're an awesome little brother." She tousled his hair and walked into the bathroom.

Chapter 2: Boy Meets Girl

Magda Ramirez sat on her porch step with her maroon cheerleading bag beside her and her chin in her hands. Her dark hair fell over her shoulder and she absently brushed it off. She studied the blue sky. 'This has to a be good sign. It's sunny in San Francisco.' She grinned and heard a car horn honking. She glanced up at the street and saw her best friend, Jinny Exstead waving to her. She hopped up, grabbed her bag, and climbed in. Avril Lavigne blasted over the speakers and she threw her bag in the backseat. As her friend turned a corner she glanced at her friend's attire. "Were you going for the 10 cent hooker look?" she reacted to Jinny's 'down to there' jeans and tight fitting one shouldered lilac top.
"Magda, Magda, Magda... No. Actually I was going for the knockout look. It's somethin' huh?" Jinny laughed at Magda's expression.
"Something is definitely the right word. So, what's up? I mean, boy wise. Like, you don't have anyone to dress up for anymore so why bother?" Magda shrugged.
Jinny took a quick bite of her blueberry toaster strudle and watched helplessly as it dripped onto her shirt. She cussed under her breath and then looked up at Magda as her friend handed her a lemon scented wet wipe. "Sorry, I forgot. It was a long summer. Anyway, that's exactly my point, Magda. I don't have anyone to dress up for, therefore I must dress up in order to get someone to dress up for, and then and only then can I not dress up anymore. Do you follow me?"
Magda was silent for a few seconds. "No. But we're here so let's go." Jinny parked the car and grabbed her toaster strudle with one hand and her bag with the other.
"Ready, Mag?" Jinny asked.
"Ready, Jin." Magda replied and they set off across the parking lot to Monroe High School.


Jack Ellis steered his jeep into a parking spot next to a VW Beetle and scoffed. "Ten bucks says that car belongs to a blonde chick," he muttered to himself. He stepped out and headed towards the building. When he reached the entry way, he looked around for the office, but when he didn't see anything he decided to ask someone where it was. He took a step back and collided into something. Well, actually someone. "Ow!" Came a girl's voice from behind him.
He turned around quickly and found himself facing a tall girl in low cut jeans and a purple top with a blue stain on it. "Sorry. I was trying to find the office. Can you show me where it is?"
She ran her eyes over him a few times and lowered her eyebrows. "No." She said finally.
A girl standing next to her hit her playfully and then looked at Jack. "It's right around that corner. Are you new here?"


Jinny couldn't believe what was going on. A jerk, but a very cute jerk, had bumped into her, and now Magda was acting like his best friend. They had actually walked the jerk to the office and he and Magda had been deeply engrossed in conversation for the last five minutes. She decided she had to break this up right away. "Excuse me, but, we have office this hour so--"
Magda cleared her throat. "You have office this hour, Jin. I told you on the phone that I couldn't get the same hour as you. You're working with a guy named Jack Ellis. Remember?"
The jerk looked at Jinny. "I'm Jack Ellis. Nice to meet you."
Jinny swallowed hard. "Speak for yourself. 'Bye, Magda. See you next hour." She pushed past him and sat down on the stool in front of the office window.

Guess what.... I'm gonna post more whether ya like it or not so read it or don't.... I don't really care at this point. (In case you couldn't tell, I'm kinda in a bad mood. My boyfriend is leaving for the entire summer and I'm kinda depressed but I'll be okay...) But that's enough about me... On with the fic.....

Chapter 3: Shaky Beginnings

Jinny swung her foot and tapped her pen against the counter as Jack drummed his fingers beside her. "You really don't like me very much, do you?" He asked.
She glanced sideways at him but didn't say anything for a little while. "You're...... cute, I guess. But not really my type."
He propped his head on his fist. "Oh, really? And what is your type? Do you have a boyfriend?"
"I'll tell you... sometime." She struggled.
He sighed. "When?" Then the bell rang.
She stood up and swung her bag over her shoulder. "Sometime." Jinny started out the door.
Jack smiled to himself and suddenly grabbed his messenger bag off the floor. "Hey, Jin!" He called into the mass confusion on the sophomore hall. She turned slowly and placed her hand on her hip. "What class do you have next hour?"
She took her schedule out of her bag while he caught up to her. "Honors chem. You?"
He smirked. "Honors chem?" Jack laughed as her eyes grew wide and she swallowed hard and started off towards the math and science building. He lagged behind for a little while to let her get a head start and then ran to catch her.
"Are you stalking me?" Jinny asked, obviously annoyed.
Jack held his hands up in surrender. "I have the same class as you and I don't know where to go!"
Jinny angrily pointed behind her. "Office." She pointed to her left. "Senior English. To your right, contextual geometry." She led him up the hall shouting classes off as she went. He was enjoying this, though he would never let Jinny know it. Bottom line was, he had to figure out how to break her out of her shell. He had felt an instant attraction and knew she had too. He just needed to find a way to make her show him.

Sorry about the boyfriend troubles... I've been gone a few days... school ya know... But I'm reading even if I don't take the time to post...

Sorry... I know I was kinda actin' all moody and stuff.... Sry bout that. It's just that I've had cheerleading camp for the past 3 days and my muscles hurt and I'm sunburned and I was some of the people that I can't stand, plus... Well... I don't expect any sympathy. (BTW, Hi Meg-Lee and Jemnifur and Manda Bear if y'all read this.... :) ) Kayo... Here goes.....


Chapter 4: Infatuated
"... He's a complete nightmare! He stole your locker C.D. It was going to be perfect; Magda and I in locker 104 and you in 106. And we have the exact same class schedule and it really bugs me!" Jinny complained to Magda and her other best friend and fellow cheerleader C.D. De Lorenzo.
C.D. smiled. "The class schedule bugs you or he bugs you?" She and Magda laughed but Jinny just glared at them both.
"You guys are enjoying this aren't you?"
"Hey, ladies!" Nate Basso's voice came from behind. "Listen I want you to meet Jack Ellis. He's--"
"Arg!" Jinny screamed in frustration, turned on her heel, and walked quickly towards the building.
Jack excused himself from the group saying hi's and hello's and ran after Jinny. "Jin!"
She glanced over her shoulder as he came up behind her. "You steal my best friend's place in the office with me, you steal my class schedule, my other best friend's locker, by the way, she doesn't really like sharing with you, you know, and now my friends? What is your problem? Are you obsessed with me or something?" She stopped outside the girl's rest room. "Now, I'm going to eat my lunch in peace."
Jack raised his eyebrows and nodded. "In a... bathroom? Right..."
She was ticked. "Look, Jack Ellis, you stay away from me, my locker, and my friends."
"Or what?" He asked nonchalantly.
"I'll... I'll... Ugh!" She pushed the door open and stepped inside. She leaned her head against the wall. "He's infatuated."
At the very same moment on the other side of the wall Jack was saying, "She's infatuated."

Chapter 5: You Mess With Me...

Magda slid down into the perfect side splits and stretched her hands to grab her toes. After a long day of listening to Jinny whine about Jack, it felt good to be stretching and letting all of the tension slip away from her muscles. Magda stood up and watched the other girls stretching but she didn't see Jinny or C.D. among them. As soon as the thought entered her head they both came out of the locker room door. "Oh, Jin! I love your top!" Magda said at the red and white spaghetti strapped shirt that said, 'You mess with me, you mess with the whole squad. Spirit Sisters.' "Where did you get that?"
Jinny smiled beneath her white visor. "I ordered it and look. She held up two more just like hers. "I got one for you and CD, too."
"Awesome, Jin." C.D. smiled and took the top.
Magda was clapping her hands. "Okay, girls. Come on in here." She let them all gather around her. "Okay, the first football game is September 7. Now that's just 3 weeks away and we have a lot of cleaning to do before then. We still haven't figured out our formation and we don't have a dance to do yet. Now, as you all know, Jinny Exstead -- wave Jin." Jinny waved and then continued to stretch. "Jinny's is our resident choreographer and she has an awesome dance. She'll show you later. What we need to do now, is work on the "Over Here Now" cheer. So let's figure out our formation. Umm.... Jinny, C.D. Bo, Me, and Lara on front and the rest on back. There we go. Now, get in the windows. Okay. Jin, you call it."
Jinny nodded. "Monroe, On this side yell. Ready!"
The rest clapped and launched into their cheer. "Monroe, on this side yell, Bulldogs go! Bulldogs, go! Monroe, over here now yell, Bulldogs fight! Bulldogs, fight! Monroe, let's hear you yell, Bulldogs go! Bulldogs, fight! Bulldogs go! Bulldogs fight! Bulldogs go! Bulldogs fight!"
Magda did a quick toe-touch and then clapped. "Good job, guys." Let's break them into groups and teach them the new dance, Jin."
Jinny started off with her group and out of the corner of her eye saw Jack Ellis sitting on the bleachers. She excused herself from the group and went over to him. "Fancy seeing you out here."
He blushed. "Well, I had some time to kill... so.. Oh and by the way... Nice top."
She glanced down at her shirt. "Yeah, I know what you're looking out. Are you done yet?"
He exhaled sharply. "You came to talk to me!"
She narrowed her eyes angrily and took off towards the middle of the field where her group was.
He laughed and sat back against the next row. "You mess with me, you mess with the whole squad? I just threw myself into the Midol pit. Or the cheerleaders without their happy pills pit. Maybe they're on speed or something... How can you be that perky? And why am I talking to myself?"

Chapter 6: Boys... Can't Live With 'Em

"Thanks for letting me come over Jin," Magda said as she rewound the dance tape. "I never would have gotten this by just watching you. You're an awesome choreographer. And don't even pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. Gosh, can you believe we're seniors? I mean, in nine months, we're leaving Monroe."
Jinny scoffed. "Thank God."
"Bad moody much?" Magda smiled at her friend.
"No, you know, I'm just..."
"Stressed?" Magda finished the sentence for her friend. "Yeah, I could tell. So, how's the boyfriend search coming." Jinny rolled her eyes. "You know, Jack's really cute?"
Jinny became suddenly very interested in a chip in her metallic lilac nail polish.
Magda's eyes grew wide. "You like him don't you? Omigosh! You are in love with Jack Ellis!"
"Come on, Mag!" Jinny said, suddenly throwing her hair back. "I am not in love with him!"
Magda smiled. "No, but you admit you like him, right?" Her friend lowered her eyes again. "You do. Jin, he's hott! Capital H-O-T-T, hott. Even I think so and I'm.... envolved.... With Gabe."
It was now Jinny's turn to grill Magda about a guy and she was going to enjoy every second. "What about that cute guy that sat across from us in chem? And no, not Jack or Nate. What's his name... John? Joshua? Jeremiah?"
"Jonah." Magda whispered.
"Ooh, Jonah. I saw you givin' him the eye today."
Magda giggled. "Sure... You know, we oughta do something for these new folks. Like give a party or something."
Jinny grinned. "Or how about go out to party. You know there's that new teenager's club downtown. 'The Live Wire' I think it's called. Tomorrow's Saturday. Let's party tonight! The one thing I like about Monroe is that we always start on a Friday. Let's start making phone calls."

Chapter 7: The Live Wire

Again, Jack parked unknowingly next to Jinny that night, but his breath was taken away as she stepped out of her car in a black micro-mini skirt and black screen printed baby tee that showed the New York skyline. Her hair was just the way she liked it; Piled on top of her head with tendrils around the nape of her neck and from her temples. It was curled and she had sprayed it with silver glitter that showed up perfectly against her dark hair. Her make-up was dark, but she still looked ravishing and he was swept off his feet... again. He cleared his throat and spoke. "Hey, Jin!"
She turned around smiling but it quickly faded. "Jack... Hi. What are you doing here?"
"Oh, umm, Magda told me to come down here at 8 to party with you guys. I didn't know you were going to be here." Jack hoped that she would believe his lie.
She smiled and nodded. "I'm sure you didn't. Magda came with CD and Nate." She pointed to an old beat up car. "That's Nate's car. He was to restore it, but isn't doing very well."
"I know," he replied. "He told me about it. I'm going to help him. I'm kinda good around cars."
They walked in silence for a few seconds before Jinny recognized the smell of leather. "Are you wearing a leather jacket?" She asked timidly.
He laughed. "Oh, yeah. I meant to change, but I guess old habits die hard." He stopped laughing abruptly. "Why?"
Jinny smiled shyly. "You're going to think I'm stupid, but... I like leather. The smell, the feel... Everything. Sometimes even the body underneath."
Jack was shocked. "Umm... How about this body?"
She stopped to face him. "I don't know yet. Maybe I'll find out... Someday." They were at the door. "Well, Mr. Ellis, shall we give them something to talk about?"
He was confused. "What do you mean?"
"Just follow me." She pulled open the door and they stepped inside. She found Magda, CD, Nate, Gabe, and Jonah and grabbed Jack's hand. She led him to a spot where they were in perfect view of the group and she made sure they were all looking before without letting them know that she knew they were looking. "Well, Ellis, it's now or never!" She threw her arms around him and kissed him. Deeply and passionately. And the part that shocked her the most was that he didn't kiss her back.


Well, guys... I g2g... But how's that for a cliffhanger? You want to know what happens right? You need to know what happens? Well.... I'll tell ya... later....

So sorry but I've been gone and we're getting a new computer in a little bit (like a week or two not quite sure) plus I've been reading non stop on the new Harry Potter book (luv it!) because a friend let me borrow it and it need returning because sumpthin' or other... But anyway... Enuf about me cuz I know that you wanna read the story not about my pathetic life so here ya go.....................


Chapter 8: Mixed Emotions

Magda saw the whole thing. Jinny kissing Jack. Him pushing her away. He tried to say something to her but she had already turned and was headed down the spiraling staircase to the table where Magda and C.D. sat. Magda waved Gabe, Jonah, and Nate to go stop Jack from leaving. Jinny sat down haughtily and scoffed. "Men are swine."
Magda looked at CD and asked, "Should we ask?"
CD smiled. "Why not? She's going to tell us anyway."
"You have a point," Magda replied. "Okay, Jin, what did he do?"
Jinny sighed. "Well, I'll tell you what he did. I gave him something that half the guys at school would kill for."
CD looked up from her root beer. "We know it's not your virginity."
"Ha, ha," Jinny laughed sarcastically. "We are not amused."
Magda couldn't resist. "You got a mouse in your pocket?" She giggled and CD slapped her a high five.
"No," Jinny said, choosing to ignore them still laughing at Magda's joke. "I kissed him."
"And..." CD and Magda said in unison.
Jinny's eyes widened. "What do you think? That jerk didn't kiss me back!"
"Ummm, Jin?" Magda started. "I hate to break this to you, but not every guy in the universe thinks that you're hot. I mean, come on... You don't seriously think that you can just go up to a guy and make out with him whenever you want... Do you?"
"I've done it before."
At this moment CD spewed root beer across the table. "Sorry..."
Jinny stood up and grabbed her purse. "You know, I think I'm going home. I'll call you guys tomorrow."

Chapter 9: Girls... Can't Live Without 'Em

Jack, Nate, Gabe, and Jonah sat at one of the picnic tables outside the club. The San Francisco night air was chilly and Jack zipped up his jacket. "So, Jack," Nate spoke over the soft music drifting out of the club whenever the door was opened. "Are you going to run for band king? For homecoming."
Jack shook his head. "I hadn't planned on it. Are you?"
Nate shrugged. "Well, you know... Lily wants me to, so, yeah probably. She's running for sophomore attendant. Get this, CD is running for band queen! I didn't think she wore dresses!" He started laughing hysterically.
Jack smiled vaguely at the thought of his tomboyish locker partner winning band queen. "Who's running for homecoming queen?" He asked. "And who votes?"
Nate sat upright, his face flushed from laughing so hard. "The football team votes and the candidates are..." He pulled a slip of paper from his back pocket. "Being senior class vice-president has it's advantages. Umm... The candidates are... Jinny Exstead, Magda Ramirez, CD DeLorenzo, Lara Parkins, and Tara Parkins. Well, that would be funny if one of the Parkins twins win. How would we tell them apart?" He started laughing again.
Jack stood up suddenly. "I think I'm leaving."
"Yo, Jack," Gabe said, "You have e-mail?" Jack nodded. "We'll talk. Write it down for me."
Jack reached in his pocket for a pen and found a gum wrapper to write on. He scribbled his e-mail address then allowed Gabe, Jonah, and Nate to write theirs and waved goodbye as he walked off to his car.

Chapter 10: Falling

Jinny was struggling to find her keys as Jack arrived at his car. "Need help?" Jack said.
She wheeled around looking hopeful but her face fell as she saw who spoke. "Not from you," she scoffed.
Jack put his hand on her shoulder. "Jin..."
Jinny felt her stomach give a strange jolt as he touched her shoulder. Her pulse quickened, she felt the blood rushing to her face, and she found she couldn't look him in the eye.
"I'm sorry about what happened inside." He moved his hand to the side of her face. "Jin, you're so pretty." He moved very close to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. She put her arms around his neck and they touched noses.
"Jack..." She whispered. "I... I..." He placed his finger on her lips to quiet her.
"Shhh..." He breathed. He removed his finger and kissed her. They stood like that for five minutes, but to Jinny it seemed like five seconds. He pulled away and whispered. "Follow me."
Jinny was confused. "What?"
"In you car," Jack explained. "Follow me."
She nodded. "Okay."

Chapter 11: Magda's Rules

"So... Thanks for the ride," Jonah said as Gabe dropped him off in front of his house. "Magda... I'll e-mail you, okay?"
Magda opened her door and stepped out of the car. "I'll walk you up to your house." She closed the door and leaned in the window. "I'll be right back, Gabe." She shivered and Jonah put his arm around her, but Magda pulled away. "Jonah... Look, I really like you, but Gabe and I have been dating for really long time and I want to keep this relationship going, you know?" They stopped in front of his door. He tried to kiss her. "Jonah... I don't kiss on the first date."
He sighed and opened the door. "You tell me if you and Gabe ever... you know, break up?"
She smiled. "You'll be the first to know. Well, fourth. After Gabe, Jinny, and CD."
He nodded. "I'll settle for that. Goodnight Magda."
"'Night." She headed back to the car.

The ride to Magda's house was silent until Gabe finally spoke as they turned onto her street. "Did he get in all right?"
"Yeah... Gabe, are you mad because I'm talking to another guy because I hate to break it to you, but I talk to a lot of people," Magda defended herself against Gabe.
He pulled up next to the curb. "Magda..." He leaned over and kissed her. It startly slowly, but he began to push her to go past her limits. "Gabe!" She said as he kissed her neck. "Gabriel!" She pushed him away. "You know my rules!"
Gabe sighed heavily and ran a hand through his dark hair. "Yeah... I know your rules. Goodnight."
"Okay..." Magda sighed and left the car. But she stood on the curb and watched as he sped away into the night.

Chapter 12: Jack's Apartment
"Will your parents care that I'm here?" Jinny asked as she stepped into Jack's apartment.
Jack shut the door and locked it. "I don't know why they would considering they're in Sacremento." He sat on the couch next to her. "I live alone. I'll be 19 in July. I left and came here."
"You're so smart! How are you already 18? You didn't flunk right?"
Jack laughed. "No! My school in Sacremento had Pre-K, Kindergarten, Pre-1st, and 1st, so that explains why I'm older than everyone." He put his arm around her. "Come here."
She slid over next to him and entertwined her fingers with his.
She looked up at his eyes. "They're hazel."
"What?" he asked.
"Your eyes." She kissed him, pulled his leather jacket off, and started unbuttoning his shirt. He slid his hand up the back of her shirt and started kissing her neck. Her hands slid to the waistband of his jeans...

Jinny glanced at the clock and noted the time, 1:59 am. Jack snored quietly beside her. She clutched the sheet to her chest and wondered how long she had been asleep. She had never once glanced at the clock since she had left her car. 'I better get home,' she thought. So she got up, pulled on her clothes, and slipped out the door into the cool night air. On the way home, she remembered the night and cried.

Chapter 13: Kate
"Jinny-Girl!" Jinny heard he father call to her from downstairs. "Jin, come say hi to Kate."
Jinny rolled her eyes, but knew she had no way out of the confrontation with her father's new girlfriend. "Coming!" She called back to him and in her Spongebob SquarePants pajamas and slippers, trudged down the stairs to where her siblings sat on the sofa, John, with his usual bad-boy lip snarl, and Casey looking as though he rather be in his room studying. She sat between them and picked at her earring.
"Hi, Jinny," Kate smiled at her from across the room.
She put on her very obviously fake 4th quarter losing by a lot cheerleader smile. "Hi!" she said mockingly. They sat in silence for a minute or two. "Well, this has been a ton of fun, but I need to e-mail Magda about cheerleading practice. Excuse me." She stood up and walked up the stairs. She returned to her room and saw text on the screen.

Okay, guys... I am sOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo sorry that I haven't posted any more, but I just started marching band practice Monday and I have been dead when I got home. (just to give you an idea although I'm sure you don't care, We start at 9, run a mile and a half before 9:30. Fifteen minute water break, then over to the field to march until noon with one 5 minute break squished in there if we're lucky. An hour for lunch at the local greasy spoon, back to the bandroom until 3:30 to practice playing the marching music.) And I get to do that all week... Don't you envy me? (Sheesh... Yeah, right!) Oh, I left out the fact that if we screw up, and everyone does, it's five squats and pushups... *sighs* It's a blast.................. Anyway, my point it, that I have absolutely no time whatsoever except to check my e-mail once and browse around here for a lil bit so, as soon as I fix some of the plot problems, (I ran into a big problem in a huge part of the fic) so as soon as I get that taken care of, you'll have more. In the meantime, read Baby Blues. A murder case based on the murder that took place next door to my house.... Scary, huh?

" ‘Bye, Lily!" Lily heard her older sister call out the window as she trudged up the driveway to Nate’s house. She was dressed in khaki cutoffs and a baby blue cropped tee. She waved without turning around and heard Magda say that they would be back at around 8:00. They had asked Lily to go with them to the mall to shop and see a movie, but she had declined and said that she had promised Nate that she would spend the day with him. So, here she was knocking on the door to Nate’s house. She stepped back off the step as the door opened and Nate stood there. He smiled at her and said, "Hey." He kissed her on the cheek and they stepped inside. "Do you want something to drink?" He asked her as he shut the door. "We have some soda, tea, and water."
Lily tugged at her ponytail. "Water would be great!" She stood and looked around the living room. "Are your parents here?"
"No," Nate said, reaching in the cabinet for a glass. He took it to the tap and filled it about half way. "They went to visit my sister." He took ice from the freezer and placed it in the glass. "Here you go." He handed it to her.
She took a sip. "Do they know I’m here?"
"Why?" He asked. "Is it wrong that we’re here alone? Lily, I’m a senior, and you’re a junior. If we’re not adult enough to be alone in an empty house for an afternoon then…"
She set her glass down on the bar. "They don’t know I’m here, do they?" Nate shook his head. "Can I see your room?" She asked.
Nate tugged on his yellow tee-shirt. "Sure." He grabbed her hand and led her down the hall to his bedroom. "It’s kind of messy…" He flipped on the lights. The walls were painted black and a checkerboard pattern was done on the ceiling. A bed that looked like it hadn’t been made in a couple of weeks was against the far wall. A desk held his laptop and his textbooks along with a few sketchpads and charcoal pencils.
"You draw?" Lily asked, picking up a drawing of a bulldog.
Nate rushed over to her and tried to clear everything off. "Umm… Kinda. I mean, I try." He grabbed a sketchbook out of her grasp.
She begged him. "Let me see. They’re really good."
He considered his options. "Okay. As long as you don’t tell anybody. Drawing is kind of… Sissy."
She shook her head. "No, it’s not." She opened the book to find a portrait of her sister. "This is Magda!" She gasped.
He laughed. "Yeah. Last year, on a band trip, they asked me to draw someone, and Magda was in front of me so…"
She turned another page and found herself staring at a very detailed oil reproduction of Van Gough’s ‘Starry, Starry Night.’ "Nate…" She almost whispered, not wanting to break the beauty that she felt looking at the picture. "These are… wonderful…" She sat the book on his desk and laughed as he pushed clothes off his bed. "Why are you cleaning off your bed?"
"Umm… Well… See… I thought… Listen…" He stammered over the words.
Lily giggled. "Spit it out. If you want me to sleep with you…"
Nate felt himself turning red. "Well… I mean… If you want to. I know we’ve just told people, but it’s not like we’ve just started dating or anything… We just didn’t make it public until recently."
Lily nodded. "Yeah, I know. I want to. I’ve wanted to for a long time."
Nate nodded and threw his shirt off. "Great."


Chapter 15: Magda's Confession

"That is adorable on you, Mag!" Jinny exclaimed as Magda stepped out of the dressing room in a vibrant red spaghetti strap dress that came to about her knees.
Magda turned and looked at her back in the mirror. "Really? Hey! I could salsa in this!" She danced a few steps and Jinny laughed. "I don’t know… I really don’t have any shoes to go with it."
Jinny sighed. "Magda, have I taught you nothing? We’ll simply have to run by the shoe store on our way to the movie!"
Magda went back into the dressing room and changed back into her jeans and tee-shirt.

"So, where did you go Friday after you left the club?" Magda asked as they strolled down the mall towards the shoe store. "I called your house from C.D.’s cell at about 9, and you weren’t home yet."
Jinny sighed. "I went home with Jack…"
"Did you sleep with him?" Magda gasped.
Jinny nodded. "Yes… It was a mistake."
"I can’t believe it," Magda shook her head. "You swore up and down that you didn’t even like him and seven hours later, you’re at his apartment having sex with him."
"I said it was a mistake, Mag. I can’t believe I got involved with him." Jinny said, tiredly.
"I’ve been thinking about doing it with Gabe," Magda confessed.
Jinny stared at her best friend. "What?" They stopped in the middle of the narrow door to the show store, making a woman behind them tap her foot impatiently and sigh. Jinny waved her off. "Did I hear you right?"
Magda nodded. "He’s been pushing me a lot lately and, I don’t want to go to college a virgin. I mean… I really think that I’m in love with Gabe. He loves me. We love each other." The woman behind them sighed louder.
"Hey," Jinny snapped at her. "This is a little more important than a half off sale, okay?" But Magda pulled her over to the food court where they were supposed to meet C.D. at 2:30 to catch the matinee. They sat at a table. "I can’t believe this…"
Magda waved to C.D. and said to Jinny, "Believe it."
"Magda…" Jinny said very seriously. "Are you absolutely sure that you want to give your virginity to Gabe? Because once you give it away you can’t get it back. Believe me, if I’d know… Well, that’s another story, but let’s just say I would have done things differently. So, just think about it, before you rush, okay? Gabe is not the only fish in the sea. Be ready to cast your reel at any time. Hey, C.D.!" Jinny changed her tone as C.D. sat down next to them and looked over their afternoon’s purchases.
"What are you guys talking about over here?" C.D. asked.
Magda shook her head slightly at Jinny, signaling her to not say anything about the conversation they had just had. "Jinny slept with Jack."
"Thanks, Mag," Jinny replied, thinking back to the things she would change and the one thing she wouldn’t.


Well, guys... I g2g and prepare for another day of boot camp... I mean band... Adios.

Whoa... Now I feel REALLY appreciated! We finished band until Thursday when school starts! (Yay!!! Can't wait... I know, I'm such a geek!) But anyway... I'm feeling okay... Chapter 16: Confrontation

"Hey, Jin," Jack said to her as she stepped through the door and sat next to him without saying anything. "Jin? Are you okay?"
Jinny sighed. "Look, Jack. What we did Friday night was—"
"Wonderful," he cut her off and grabbed her hands.
She pulled her hands away. "S—stop! It was a mistake. I don’t know why I even agreed to it. Look, I’ve had a lot of stress in my life lately and I just don’t think that I could handle anymore."
"That’s what I am to you? Stress?"
Jinny buried her head in her hands. "Ugh… This is coming out all wrong. Jack…" She said, finally looking him in the eye. "You deserve someone better than me."
Mrs. Bailey’s voice drifted out of the office. "Jinny? Could you run to Office Depot and pick up some ink cartridges for the main printers. Then Jack can install them. I’ll give you some money. Do you what kind to get?"
"We’ll talk at after school band, okay?" Jinny grabbed her keys and walked into the main office to grab the money from the principal.
Jack stared at his hands and sighed. "Man…"

"Jin," Magda whispered in between taking notes in history class. Their teacher, Coach Parkins was a glass eyed old man who spent his days sleeping and showing them "educational films" and sleeping behind his newspaper. This was one of the few days that they had to take notes from the film. "What did you tell Jack? He’s sitting over there staring at you. He’s hasn’t moved, Jin."
Jinny craned her neck to make sure that Coach Parkins was still sleeping. The slight rising and falling of the newspaper told her that her suspicions were correct. "I told him that what we did Friday was wrong, and that we shouldn’t have done it."
Magda glanced over her shoulder at Jack who was still staring at Jinny. She shook her head and sighed softly. "You didn’t pull the crap about how you weren’t good enough for him, did you?" She watched while Jinny lowered her eyes. "Jin… No offense, but YOU’RE AN IDIOT!" She raised her voice.
"Magda!" Jinny exclaimed in a sharp whisper. "You’ll wake up, Dead Eye. Look, Jack deserves someone who will pay attention to him at the football games and not sleep with the other team’s quarterback."
Magda gasped. "You did that?"
"Never mind," Jinny covered quickly. "Mag… Do you believe in love at first sight?" Magda nodded slightly. "Because… I think I’m in love with Jack."
"You’ve known him for four days and you’re saying that you’re in love with him!" Magda burst out.
Jinny silenced her friend. "I know it sounds absolutely crazy… That’s why… Every time I get into a relationship that I think can make work, I hurt the other person and it falls apart. Teddy… I really love him… Really, Mag, and… it still hurts when I think about him because I love him. Loved him and—"
"Jinny Exstead!" Coach Parkins yelled at her, apparently awoken from his deep slumber. "Shut your face!"
"Yes, sir," she sighed and Magda turned around and continued taking notes, every once in a while glancing over at Jack who was still staring at Jinny.

Jinny threw her drum carrier over her shoulders and hooked her quads onto the front of it. She dug in her stick bag hanging on the side of the right drum and pulled her music from the pocket. She taped it to the drum heads and ran through the music once before practice started. She saw Jack pick up his carrier and his quad set and he stood beside her.
"All right," Mr. Williams’s voice boomed over the loudspeakers in the press box. "Let’s get started. Give me your F warm up. 1, 2, ready, go." The band started playing the warm-up. Jinny glanced at Magda’s gloved hands holding the silver plated French cornet. Magda raised her eyebrows at Jinny and continued playing. "Okay guys, let’s run through the opener." The group ran to their spots on the field. "At ease." The band obeyed the command. "C.D., call them to attention."
C.D. stepped onto the drum major’s platform, clapped her hands four times and yelled, "Band, ten-hut!"
They all snapped to attention. Heels together, toes at a 45 degree angle, shoulders back, chest out, heads up and with eyes full of pride. "Good!" Mr. Williams called. "Go!"
C.D. blew the whistle to give them the counts and they started marching. They got about half-way through their opener, ‘Ballet Suite No. 4’ by Shostakovich, fitting into their Russian theme, when they heard his voice again. "No, stop, stop, stop. That was horrible! Section leaders, take your section and work with them. Meet back in 30 minutes. Good Lord…" He rubbed his head and they split up into their sections.
"Come on, guys, let’s go over here in the end zone," Jinny said to the 12 other percussionists in her section. "Sarai, can you give me clicks when we march?" she asked setting her carrier on the ground. Okay, forward eight, back 12, right 4, and back 8. Does everybody understand? Ready? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, break step!" She watched as they marched her commands. "Okay… Jack, that was perfect. Take a break." Jack stood by her.
"Can we talk now?" he asked her.
Jinny glanced at him, then back at her section. "Tylar, roll your feet. I should be able to read words on the bottom of them! Stacy, get your head up! The ground isn’t going anywhere, I promise!" Jinny corrected. "Jack… This isn’t really a good time. I’m trying to watch… Okay, Sarai, you can sit down. Tylar, you give me clicks." She watched in silence again. "LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT! It’s not a hard concept! Good, everybody take five." They sighed in relief and took their heavy white carriers off. She and Jack sat away from the group. "Okay. I know that you think that maybe we might have had something… It got too serious, too fast. I knew you for, like, seven hours before we slept together. Besides… I’m kinda in a new relationship… Well… Yeah… My ex wants to get back together and so do I so… Not now."
Jack stared at her. "Okay… Nice knowing you. Look, here comes Magda, C.D., and Raina!"
Jinny stood up and jogged over to her friends. Raina kept walking over to Jack and the two of them struck up a conversation.
"Well," Magda said, pulling off her gloves. "He took that better than I thought."
C.D. swung her silver whistle in circles. "Mmm-hmm…"

Jinny as a quad player....just can't see that. LOL Man that reminds me all too well of practice cept we don't wear gloves ever and we don't have 12 percussionists...this is great..post more!

It's kinda stupid because only the French horn and trumpet players have to wear gloves. But that's basically how practice is. Oh, and Jin was going to play the bari-sax, but there's this whole thing about it and it'll all be explained later. NEwayz... Here's more.

Chapter 17: Teddy

The rest of the week flew by for Jinny. Much to her surprise, Jack and she had become friends and now that he was helping her with calculus, she felt that she might be able to pull off a ‘B-’… or at least a ‘C+’. But she was looking forward to her date with Teddy. When Friday rolled around, she couldn’t sit still in her classes, she fidgeted during band practice and when it was time for her tutorial with Jack, she talked his ear off about her ex-boyfriend.

When Jinny got home, she turned up the radio and dug through her closet for the black strapless a-line dress that she had worn to their junior prom. She showered and then arranged her hair the same way she had done it when they were at the club. She found her spray glitter under her bed but couldn’t reach it without messing up her hair, and since it had taken her almost an hour and a half to get it that way, she didn’t want to waste more time. "Casey!" She yelled, re-tying her robe cord.
"Yeah, Sis?" Casey came into her room.
Jinny sighed. "I have a date in, like," she glanced at the clock. "an hour. Can you reach under my bed and grab my silver spray glitter?" She smiled as Casey dropped to his stomach and started digging under her bed. Soon he was half-way underneath it. Jinny dug through her jewelry box to find her earrings. "Case, I’ll be right back!" She plodded down the hall to John’s room and banged on the door. "John! Have you seen my dangly earrings?"
"Why would I have seen them?" John called back to her.
"Ohh… Yeah… Thanks anyway!" Jinny grinned and walked back into her room.
Casey was rising to his feet holding aerosol can. "Here you go, Jin."
Jinny smiled at her younger brother. "Thanks, Casey!" She grabbed it, sprayed it in her hair, and then recruited her brother to zip up the back of her dress. She put in her earrings and pulled on her shoes. She applied her make-up and then waited for Teddy.

At eight o’clock on the dot, Teddy knocked on the door to Jinny’s house. He knew that one of her brothers, and maybe her father, would answer the door. It was wrong for the girl to answer the door or something. Casey opened the door and Teddy saw that he was shocked by him. "Umm…" Casey stuttered. "Sorry, but Jinny has a date."
Teddy nodded. "Yeah, I know. It’s with me."
"Oh!" Casey stepped back and let Teddy walk into the living room. "Jin! Your date’s here!"
Teddy watched as Jinny walked slowly down the stairs. She smiled at him. "Hi."
"Jin…" He breathed. "Let’s go." He took her hand and led her out the door to his car.
She climbed in, careful not to tear her dress. "You got a new car!" She gasped, exclaiming over his green Chrysler convertible.
He chuckled. "It’s been awhile, Jin."
She nodded. "It has. But I’ve changed. I… I didn’t realize what I had until… I’ve really missed you. When you… Told me that… You didn’t even wanna be friends with me… It hurt…" She struggled to hold in her tears. "It hurt a lot. And then you transferred… I was a nervous wreck in cheerleading tryouts because of that… And you know… I’m not… I’m not as…" Jinny searched for the words while silent tears streamed down her face. "Immature as I was last year… I’ve learned… So much… We had a good thing."
Teddy glanced at her. "Had? Jin, we can have a good thing!"
She shook her head. "No… I don’t… I don’t think so. See, I loved you… A lot… But, I can’t… How am I supposed to move on with my life when I take one step forward, two steps back?" She thought about what she was going to say next. "You know, I don’t… I don’t know what I was thinking." She stared out the windshield. "Or maybe I did," she said, like an afterthought. "The point is… I don’t think I can be happy with you. I just… Take me home… Okay?"
Teddy sighed and turned the car around. He drove her back to her house and as she started to step out of the car, he called her back. "If you ever, you know, decide that we might could make this work, again…"
She smiled almost sadly at him and nodded. "Hey… I love you."
"Love you, too." Teddy watched as Jinny made her way up the driveway. Then, he left.


Chapter 18: Gossip

"Defense, Get tough! Hold that line!" Magda nodded. "That’s cute, I like that," she said to Jinny and C.D. on Saturday afternoon. They sat in the grass, Jinny sipping on a glass of lemonade, C.D. toying with Jinny’s cell phone, and Magda sat quite comfortably in the splits.
"So, Magda," C.D. asked. "What are Lily and Nate doing today."
Jinny lowered her sunglasses and sat her lemonade down. "C.D…. It’s Lily and Nate. What do you think they’re doing?"
Magda hit Jinny on her thigh, but she just laughed. "Jin… Lily has the same beliefs I do."
C.D. changed the subject. "Are you guys excited about the Mars Fest?"
Magda pulled her knees to her chest. "It’s going to be awesome! I can’t believe Mom extended my curfew to let me go! Jin, what time are you picking me up?"
Jinny bit her lip. "Umm… What time does it start?"
C.D. pulled the flier out of her purse. "Mars doesn’t rise until, like, midnight, but the activities and stuff start at 7:30."
"Probably about 6:30, Mag. I want to meet Jack early and talk to him," Jinny said as she hopped up to get more lemonade.
Magda gasped. "Oh, speaking of Jack, have you heard about him and Raina?"
"No," C.D. answered. "What’s going on?"
"Well," Magda replied. "From what I’ve heard, they had a hot date last night."
Jinny sat down. "Now, how would you know that if it happened last night?"
Magda smiled at Jinny. "Because, Raina and Jenny Morgan are really close, and Jenny Morgan and Bo Anderson are really close, and Bo Anderson, happens to be my spirit sister. So, she e-mailed me last night because she knew that you and me are really close, Jin, and the whole reason she e-mailed me about it is because she knows that you and Jack are really close if you know what I mean."
Jinny looked over at C.D. "What did she just say?"
C.D. shrugged. "Dunno. Sounded like gibberish to me."
Magda said, "You want to see the e-mail?" Jinny and C.D. nodded and followed Magda into her house.
"Hola, chicas," Magda’s mother called from the kitchen where she was fixing them quesadillas for lunch.
"Hola, Señora Ramirez," C.D. and Jinny said as they passed through the dining room. They walked into Magda and Lily’s spotless room. Magda pulled up her e-mail account and showed them the e-mail.

Chapter 19: Mars Fest

Jinny, Magda, and Casey arrived at the bay at 7:00. They found C.D., Nate and Lily, and Jack and Raina. They spread their blankets out with the others on the sand. Jinny had strategically placed hers next to Jack and Raina's, and even though it was supposed to be rather cold that night and everyone else had worn jeans, she still wore her burgundy gym shorts and tank top. She had brought a pair of jeans and a sweater just in case it got so bad that she couldn’t stand it. "Hey, Jack!" She said cheerfully and turned her back to him to spread her blanket out. She bent over and straightened it out. A soft breeze blew in carrying the scent of salt, popcorn, coffee, and Jack’s Adidas cologne. She shivered and felt goosebumps rise on her bare legs. "Ooh… It’s chilly."
Jack shed his leather jacket. "Here you go. Take my jacket."
Jinny smiled at him and took it. She sat down and pulled her knees to her chest, for added heat. "Brr… I didn’t think it was going to be this cold," she exclaimed, noticing that Jack was watching her every move. "Where’s Raina?"
Jack brought his eyes to meet hers. "Oh, she and Jenny went to get something to eat." His eyes slipped again. "Umm… Are you still cold?"
"Yeah. I think I’m going to go sit in my car with the heat on until we actually start, okay?" She stood up starting to slip off his jacket. "Thanks."
He stood up beside her. "Hey, wait. I’ll go with you."
Jinny raised her eyebrows at him. "Will Raina not care?"
"Do you think…" He stammered. "We’re not involved."
"Really? Because Raina’s telling everyone that you guys had sex," she replied and started off to her car.
Jack jogged up to her. "What? No, I just took her home from band Friday. That’s why I was late meeting you."
Jinny unlocked her car and sat inside. Jack followed her and she cranked up the heat. She took off his jacket and threw it in her lap. "How was your date?" He asked her finally.
"Huh… More like re-break up," Jinny scoffed.
Jack stared at her. "I’m sorry to hear that…" he lied.
"Jack…" She looked up at him, surprised to meet his eyes. They stared at each other for a while then he kissed her.

Magda looked at her watch for the millionth time since they had gotten there. "Hey, C.D.!"
The tall blonde turned to Magda. "Yep?"
"Where’s Jinny?" Magda asked, hoping that she had seen her somewhere.
Nate laughed as C.D. shrugged. "I got a better question for you," he smiled. "Where’s Jack?"
Magda and C.D. exchanged glances. The three plus Lily stood up in unison and walked back up to where the cars were parked. "Oh, my…" Magda gasped and put a hand to her mouth.
C.D. crossed her arms over her chest and laughed. "Well… Guess Jin had to get warm somehow."
"Hey, guys!" Raina came up behind them. "Do you know where Jack is?"
Nate started laughing and C.D. hit him on the shoulder. "Shut up," she hissed through gritted teeth. Then she looked at Raina. "No, Raina, we haven’t seen Jack."
"Oh…" Raina turned around and walked back to the blankets. As soon as she was out of earshot, Nate started laughing.
Magda sighed. "I don’t believe this. I’m putting a stop to this!"
"Magda!" C.D. watched as Magda made her way over to Jinny’s blue Beetle and tapped on the fogged up window. A hand wiped away the fog and Jinny’s sweaty face appeared in the spot.
"Busted…" Nate shook his head.

Jinny and Jack walked hand in hand laughing quietly. "Hey…" He stopped and turned her towards the east. "Look, it’s Mars!"
She smiled and swept her hair back from her face. "Wow… That’s amazing. I can’t believe I’m seeing this…"
He kissed her. "We’re lucky. No one alive now will see this again. Our great-great-grandchildren probably won’t even see this."
"We are lucky. We found each other. Jack…" She laughed. "I think I’m in love with you."

Jinny walked into her house at 1 o’clock Monday morning, to be greeted by Kate. "Jinny Louise Exstead, where have you been?"
Jinny squinted as the lights flashed on. "Ugh… Mars Fest."
"That was Saturday night," Kate lectured. "Casey went to that too and he was home yesterday. So, where were you?"
Jinny narrowed her eyes at her father’s girlfriend. "You’re not my mother." She started for her room.
Kate grabbed her shoulder and whipped her around. "No, I’m not, but now I can see why your mother killed herself."
Jinny’s mouth fell open. "You, b****!" she exclaimed.and opened the door.
Kate pushed it closed again. "We don’t use profanity in this house."
"This isn’t your house!" Jinny almost screamed.
Kate shoved her left ring finger under Jinny’s nose. "Your father proposed."
Jinny’s eyes watered. "That’s my mom’s engagement ring."
"Well, now it’s mine," Kate smirked.
Jinny opened the door. "Screw you," she said and stepped into the night.





Sorry to make Kate out so bad, but it has to be this way now to fit into the rest of the story.. (1 of the plot holes.) So, don't hate me if you love Kate bcuz she plays a major role later.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry that I haven't posted more! School started Thurs. and we had a 57 question test in English yesterday. I honestly don't know when I'm going to have time to post this week bcuz I have cheerleading 2 days and band the other 3 so............... I really dunno. But I'll TRY to post every day... So here's more. BTW, I know this is A LOT about Jinny lately, but I'm getting to a CD/Nate part and pretty soon Magda/Jonah, so please bear with me!!!!

Chapter 20: Jinny’s Story

Jack was awakened from his deep slumber by his phone ringing. He sleepily threw a hand onto his nightstand and answered it. "Hello?"
"Jack?" It was Jinny. "I’m sorry to wake you up, but…" Her voice trailed off and he heard her crying quietly.
He sat up suddenly and blinked furiously to bring his contacts into focus. "What… What’s wrong?"
"Can I stay with you for a little while… Like until we graduate?" She sniffed. "My dad… It’s a long story… So, can I please stay with you?"
Jack sighed. "Sure… Where are you?"
"I’m at my house. Outside in my car, on my cell. I’ll be there in 20 minutes. I have to get some stuff first."
Jack nodded. "Okay. I’ll be up."
"No!" She pleaded. "Don’t… I… You have football practice tomorrow and… You’ll need to be rested."
"Jin, you’re more important to me than football," he stressed. "I’ll be up." She hung up.

Jinny waited until she was sure that Kate was back in bed before she snuck back into the house. She grabbed her suitcase and duffel bag. She pulled clothes out of her closet furiously. She stuffed them in her suitcase and shoes in her duffel. Then she grabbed both of her cheerleading uniforms and threw the suitcase and duffel out of her window. They made a thud, but not loud enough to wake her father, Kate, or her brothers. She slung her uniforms over her arm and went in the bathroom to retrieve her toothbrush and hairbrush. The light flipped on. "Jin… What are you doing?" Casey asked her.
She turned around slowly. "Casey… I’m going to move in with Jack."
"It’s because of Kate, isn’t it?" Casey asked.
"Yes… I hate her… She stole Mom’s engagement ring. I… I can’t believe… I mean… I thought Ronnie was bad," Jinny exclaimed. "Look, Case… You better get to bed… You have school tomorrow." She walked lightly past him, down the stairs, and outside.

Jack paced back and forth in front of the door. He glanced at the clock in the kitchen again. He had spoken to Jinny 45 minutes ago, and she still wasn’t there. As if on cue, Jinny opened the door carrying a suitcase and her duffel. "I’ve got more in the car," she said. She threw them in the floor and started out the door, but he stopped her and guided her to the couch. "Sit… I’ll get them." She nodded and handed him her keys. She stood up and walked into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator and dug around until she found the half empty bottle of diet vanilla coke she had left there earlier. She gulped the rest of it, though it was flat and then walked tiredly back into the living room. Jack sat on the couch. She curled up with her head on his lap and her knees bent slightly. He ran a hand through her hair. "Hey… What happened?"
She shook her head and felt salty tears spill onto her cheeks. "Four years ago, on March the eighth, my mother decided there was no way out. So, she stuck a gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger." Jack tried to quiet her but she kept telling the story. "My father… Blamed me. I see why… I was the only girl, the mistake. I suppose it was my fault. He blamed me, because he didn’t want to admit to us that he was having an affair. In fact, he had a separate family. None of us knew. I think that when Mom found out… On top of dealing with me… It was too much for her. My dad is engaged again to a women that I hate… And on top of that, Mom’s engagement ring, that’s supposed to be mine when I turn 18, she has on her finger. So, I left."
"Jin…" Jack sighed. "I had no idea… I… I’m sorry."
She sat up suddenly and looked at him. "Can I… Can I stay with you? I can’t be around her."
He nodded. "As long as you need to, you know that. What about the kid your dad had in his affair? Do you know them?"
She scoffed. "Oh, yeah… Veronica. We call her Ronnie. Lovely girl. She graduated last year. She’s perfect… Just like I never was. Daddy put me in everything… I played baseball since I could walk, soccer, even touch football. Mom always wanted me to be a cheerleader. So, at the end of sixth grade, me and Magda and Ronnie, who was in the seventh, tried out. Now, I only tried out because Mom made me. When I made it, I was miserable. Magda and I made it and Ronnie was the alternate. When we went to camp, Magda fell off the top of the pyramid and shattered her ankle. So, my half-sister, unbeknownst to me, was a cheerleader with me."
"Did she know who you were?" Jack ventured.
Jinny sighed. "Yeah. She did a very good job of keeping everything very quiet though. We didn’t even suspect. So, two years, four reconstructive surgeries, and another year of physical therapy, Magda was back in the game and we made freshman cheerleading together. I still have my windsuit. That year was the year that Mom killed herself and we all found out that Ronnie was our half-sister. By then, she was a high school cheerleader."
"Hmm…" Jack murmured. "So, if you hated cheerleading so much, after your mom died, why didn’t you just quit?"
Jinny shrugged. "I guess I kinda like it."
"If softball is for your dad, and cheerleading was… is for your mom, who’s band for?"
"For me." She noticed that clock for the first time since she had arrived at Jack’s. "Whoa… It’s almost three. We better go to bed." She stood up and stretched. "What a day…"
He kissed her. "You can sleep in here or with me, it doesn’t matter."
Jinny smiled and put her hand on his cheek. "Thanks. I appreciate it. I’ll just change and brush my teeth and then I’ll be in bed, okay?"
Jack nodded and headed towards his bedroom. He took his gray shirt off and climbed in bed. He picked up a book and started reading. A few minutes later, Jinny emerged from the bathroom in a white tank top that read ‘Cheerleader’ and a pair of red shorts with a paw print on the thigh. She slid in between the sheets beside him and leaned forward to kiss him. "Jin…" He said after their kiss ended. "I love you."
She was so shocked she wasn’t sure what to say.
"Now," Jack stated slowly, "Would be the time to say something."
She chuckled. "I love you, too." He turned off the lamp, and the room went black.

Okay... Lemme try to explain this as best as possible... My band director smokes crack. I swear! 6:00 am practices and then til 9 after school. I swear... The man smokes crack. Or something like that. Anyway, marching season is over because the sucky football team didn't win a game all year (I kid you not) so things should kinda slow down until basketball season (which starts next Thursday) that I have to cheer/play at, but I am writing and writing and writing :typing:... I'm up to homecoming! As soon as possible I will post more! I promise it will be posted before next Friday! I PROMISE! Please forgive me! :typing: Back to the drawing board!!!

Chapter 21:

Magda swirled a spoon through the bowl of Cheerio's she had chosen for breakfast in the cafeteria. Nate sat across from her and Jonah and Gabe were on either side, like they were fighting to see which one got to walk her to class. "Gabe, aren't you supposed to go in with Mr. Lee for help on your trig?" she patted his arm. "Go, I think I can walk myself to show choir." He gave her a look then stood up, grabbed his backpack, disappeared through the doors. "Ugh... They're all soggy," Magda wrinkled her nose and stood up to throw her bowl away.
Nate smiled at her through a mouthful of bacon, toast, and scrambled eggs. "See, Mag... That's why you get the hot breakfast."
Magda raised an eyebrow at him as he picked up a slice of bacon and watched grease run off of it. "Yeah, and feel my arteries clog daily? No thanks." She picked up her books and headed towards the door with Jonah in tow.
"Mag," Jonah said as they walked across the parking lot. "Would you like to go see a movie and maybe to dinner?"
Magda stopped and faced Jonah. "Oh, Jonah..."
"I know your thing with Gabe and all that, but..." He searched for the right words. "Mag, you're not happy. I can tell. He's too protective and... and..."
Magda shook her head and started walking. "Jonah, can I think about this a little bit?"
"Sure," Jonah nodded. "Sure, get back to me in 5th hour okay?"
Magda waved goodbye and headed towards the math and science building.
"Magda!" C.D.'s voice came from behind her. "Hey, Mag!" Magda stopped and waited for C.D. "Is Jinny here?"
Magda shook her head. "No, I had to ride with Nate," she laughed. "I'll never do that again. Hey, why are you out of basketball, anyway?"
C.D. explained, "Well, you know that my ankle's are really weak and everything... And I just didn't feel like playing. So, I forged my mother's signature on a sick not and voila! I'm out!"
Magda sighed and pulled open the door to the math and science building. "C.D., don't cheat."
C.D. laughed. "Right, I forgot that I couldn't mention it in front of Little Miss Perfect. Anyway, Jack's not here either."
"So?" Magda shrugged.
"Well," C.D. started. "Something smells a little bit fishy to me. But what do I know right? I better get back. I'll talk to you next hour. 'Bye!" And with that, C.D. was gone.

Chapter 22: New Day

Jinny didn’t know where she was. When she opened her eyes, the room swayed and spun and she was nauseated. She closed her eyes and slowly turned face-down onto the cool surface of the black pillow. Breathing in a mixture of Jack’s cologne and the strawberry scent of her own hair, she lay still and listened to the gentle strumming of Jack’s acoustic guitar. He was humming along off-key and a beat behind, but it was one of her favorite songs. ‘Iris’ from the movie, ‘City of Angels.’ Then she remembered.
The horrible events from the previous night came flooding back to her, but the familiarity of the pain she was feeling wasn’t new, nor did it surprise her. She remembered the first time she had ever felt that pain.
Right before their yearly camping trip into the Sequoias, Jinny had gotten her first period. Feeling tired and cramping horribly, she had gone on the trip but given both her parents grief about it. But Jinny had always been a handful according to her father’s friends. Her mother had taken 8-year-old Casey and gone to bed early complaining with one of her usual headaches. Jinny had stepped out of the tent and went to stargaze with her dad and John Jr.
Jinny remembered the feel of the cold can of beer in her hand and how much it relaxed her as the alcohol stung her throat and brought tears to her eyes. It was a feeling that she had become very accustomed to in the past six years. Jinny turned slowly onto her back. She opened one eye at a time and saw Jack sitting on the side of the bed. He smiled at her. "Hey, beautiful…" He slowly brought his mouth to hers and she kissed back. Happy to have someone to love and for someone to love her. "How did you sleep?" He asked as he grabbed her hand.
Jinny sighed. "Better. I’m not as stressed. Hey…" She sat up. "What time is it?"
Jack looked at his watch. "2:30. Hey," he responded to Jinny’s open mouth stare. "Don’t feel bad, I slept until noon and I wasn’t half as stressed as you were!"
Jinny laughed quietly and raised his hand to her lips. She looked straight up into his eyes and kissed his fingertips. "I love you…" she whispered. "So much…"
Jack smiled. "Listen, you know you can stay here as long as you need to, right? I don't know what the situation with your dad is, but... I know this sounds cliche, but I know what you're going through. I left my parents too. So, if you need someone to talk to... You know where I sleep..."
Jinny laughed. "Thanks..." She sat up and ran a hand through her hair. She sighed and stretched. "Oh, I am so tense!" She rubbed her neck and then stretched her shoulders.
"Here..." Jack said, climbing into bed behind her. "Let me give you a massage."
Jinny laid on her stomach and let Jack's strong hands remove all the tension from her muscles.
'Do I regret leaving?' she asked herself. 'Nah...' she answered her own question then closed her eyes as relief came.

It's better than drinking diet root beer and eating an all-natural no-sugar diet weight-watchers brownie for dinner on thanksgiving day! :D I'm coming up with all kinds of kewl things in this post, huh? Don't ya know it, I'm spouting these suckers off like no other! Seriously, tho, I'm lovin this story like a homeless kid loves a trashcan, so write more soon! (no offense to homeless people, I hope...)

Chapter 23: Pep Rallies

Jinny stood in front of the mirror and looked over her new cheerleading uniform one more time before leaving for school. After she had left home, the week had flown by and the first football game was later that night. The Monroe Bulldogs were playing their long-time rivals, Victory Christian, on the other side of town. It was going to be a good game and some kids at school were actually placing bets as to who would win and by how much. Jinny adjusted her skirt and then smoothed her top. Her hair hung in two French braided pigtails and as she walked out of the bedroom, Jack looked down the hall and wolf whistled. He grabbed her waist and kissed her. "Mmm... Jinny, you look hot. I like these." He ran a hand up her skirt and snapped her spandex boy shorts.
Jinny slapped his hands away and shook her head. "Mmm-hmm! You're not getting in my spankies until after you win. But..." she kissed his nose. "You be sure to stand behind me at the pep rallie today... Okay?" She playfully pushed him away from her and then picked up her backpack. "Now, come on! We're going to be late. Your car or mine?"
"I don't care," he said as they stepped out into the hall. "As long as you promise to wear that uniform when we get home tonight."
She hit his shoulder and they walked down the hall and left.

"Seventh hour band students will need to remain here because of the pep rally." Magda heard the vice-principal make the announcement as she stretched behind the curtain on the stage of the gym. The bell rang and she heard students start making their way into the gym. "Okay, ladies!" Magda stood up and the rest of the girls followed. "Let's go!"
Five minutes later all of the students were seated and the cheerleaders ran on in front of the football players. The band started playing the fight song and the cheerleaders sang the words. "Oh, when you see those bulldogs fall in line. We're gonna fight to win this game tonight. For the football team we love so well. For the red and white we'll yell and yell and yell. We're gonna fight, fight, fight, fight for every score. When we round those goals we're gonna roar. We're gonna throw Victory Christian in the dirt, make it hurt. Monroe High. Hey!" Then the EmCee's, Eric Cherry and Natalie Morgan stepped onto the court and started the planned activities. Including announcing the homecoming queen. Eric laughed. "Okay, time to get serious guys. Now, we're going to announce homecoming court. Starting with our freshman princess and attendant." Jinny bit her lip and tensed.
Raina tapped her on the shoulder. "Good luck," she whispered.
Jinny just nodded. "Thanks..."
Eric had now called the freshman princess and attendant and the sophomore, junior, and senior attendants down onto the floor. "And now, ladies and gentlemen... The moment we've all been waiting for... The announcement of our homecoming queen..." He paused. "Nah, let's just all go home." The crowd erupted into protests. "Okay... But I think we need a drumroll for this..."
Jinny would have winced at Tylar's attempt at a drumroll if she hadn't been biting her nails and almost jumping up and down with anticipation.
"Okay... The 2003 Homecoming Football Queen is...........................
Jinny Exstead!"
Everyone started cheering and clapping and Jinny started crying. She walked over to where Eric and her court stood and laughed. She could see Lara Parkins in the stands crying and her fellow cheerleader, Tara Parkins, was the senior attendant. Tara ran over and hugged Jinny.
Natalie strode over to Jinny and asked her, "Do you have anything you want to say?"
Jinny leaned into the microphone. "Umm... Just thank you to everyone who voted and..." She searched the crowd for Casey. "My little brother, Casey and Jack and Magda and C.D.... I love you guys! And... Go Bulldogs!" She started laughing again. The band started playing the fight song again and she ran over to her spot and beamed as she cheered. As the students left the gym pumped about football season, they listened as the homecoming queen and her section played the cadence.

That night, the crowd in the visitor's side was huge and eletricity buzzed through the crowd as they waited for the game to start. Jack had made Jinny kiss him, claiming that kissing the homecoming queen would make him play better and gotten disapproving glares from the coaches, but since Victory Christian had beaten Monroe for the past ten years, they weren't about to bench him, because he was their shot at winning this game.
"Jin," Magda nudged Jinny after the game had started. "Have you noticed that C.D. is watching Nate very closely. Especially when he bends over?"
Jinny laughed. "Sure did, Mag. Sure did."
Jinny, C.D., Magda, and Raina left to go warm up with the band with two minutes left in the second quarter. The score was 27-24 in Monroe's favor. Jack had scored the touchdowns and Nate the extra points. All four girls were extremely giddy as they were making their way behind the field house. Sarai and Stacy had been in charge or remembering to get Jack's quads and Jinny's new quints set. They had never been played on, but Mr. Williams assured her that they were in tune. They ran through the music and then did their prayer and chant and then they ran out on the field for their performance.
After half-time, the four girls ad just enough time to get a quick bite to eat and a bottle of water from the concession stand before the game restarted. She was walking in front of the bleachers to her spot on the end when the entire band stood up and yelled "CONGRATULATIONS, JINNY!" She waved to them and then took her spot.

Monroe won in three overtimes. The score being 33-30. The winning field goal was kicked by Nate Basso. After the game, CD was tearing the signs off the fence and when she bent down the pick up the trash bag, she saw Lily Ramirez under the bleachers making out with some guy and she just assumed it was Nate.
"Hey!" a voice said suddenly.
She whipped around. "Nate?" She was confused. "You're not... Under... Wha..."
Nate looked at her. "You're asking me?"
She pulled him down. "Shut up and look." She pointed under the bleachers where Lily and the guy were kissing even more intensely now. Nate stood up and did something that surprised CD. He took her chin in his hands and kissed her. The reason it shocked her so much was because she didn't want it to end. H finally broke it off and then apologized. She shook her head excusing it and in awe.




Well, guys, there's the first football game! I g2g but they'll be more tomorrow! Happy (late) Turkey!

Yeah... You're right D... The football team did kinda... for lack of a better word, SUCK big time... But then that kiss... You could feel the heat from even where I was standing 15 or 20 yards away... I thought..... But that would give it away... :) Here's more...........


Chapter 24: Victory Party
The boys were wild on the way back from the game. They sang the Victory Christian fight song over and over again adding different words and with a few disgruntled yells from the coaches at the front, they quieted down. "Hey," a senior yelled. "Party at Ellis' house!"
Jack looked back at Jinny. "Is it okay with you?"
Jinny nodded and went back to talking with CD and Magda. "Are you guys coming?" she asked.
CD laughed. "I can't wait to see what you've done with the place!"
Jinny scoffed. "Yeah. Are you coming, Mag?"
"No..." Magda folded her hands in her lap. "I think I'll just have you take me home, Jin."
"Aww..." Jinny pleaded with her friend. "Please come with us! It'll be a blast!"
Magda sighed. "Okay. Jin, can I borrow your cell phone to call Mami?"
Jinny handed her bag to Magda, leaned forward, and started kissing the back of Jack's neck. "Hey..." she whispered. "I thought tonight was going to be about us..."
Jack turned around and looked her in the eye. "We don't have to have the party... If you don't wanna..."
"Well, tomorrow's Saturday," she stated, picking fuzz off Jack's jacket. "I think we'll sleep in."

Magda stood in the master bathroom and felt very alone. She toyed with the crucifix that hung on a gold chain around her neck. Everyone else was drinking and having a great time celebrating the team's success, but she couldn't relax. She walked into the bedroom and saw Jonah sitting on the bed. "Jonah..." she gasped.
He stood up. "I'm sorry. I thought I'd come in here to get away from the booze and loud music and stuff. I see I'm not the only one."
"Yeah..." Magda gnawed on her bottom lip. "I'm gonna go find Jinny and ask her to take me home." She started out the door but Jonah stopped her.
"I was just thinking of leaving... Let me take you home."
Magda nodded. "Okay."

CD walked up to Nate. "Hey," she said tentatively.
"Can we... talk?" Nate asked her.
"Sure." CD pointed out the door. "Let's go outside."
They walked in silence in the cool night air. "It's so much quieter out here..." CD said just to break the silence.
"Look, CD," Nate shoved his hands in his pockets. "I kissed you because--"
CD cut him off. "You don't have to... It's... Beca... I'm not Lily." She struggled.
"I know..." Nate sighed. "Lily is..."
"Wonderful!" CD interrupted again. "And Magda's sister and I think... I'm sorry. What were you saying?"
"CD, would you like to go to the movies with me?"
CD nodded. "Sure. Now, let's go back inside. I'm freezing."

Jinny grabbed another shot off of the table and downed it. Magda and CD came up behind her as she reached for another one. "Jin, I think you've had enough," CD said to Jinny.
Jinny turned around and glared at them. "How would you know?" She grabbed another and Jack tried to grab it out of her hand. "No," she yanked it back and felt it slosh over the edges onto her fingers. "This one's mine!" She ran into Nate and then Jonah. "Hey," she laughed. "What is this?"
"Jinny," Magda said. "You've had enough."
Jinny glared at her. "How would you know, Little Miss Perfect?"
"Jinny," CD warned.
"Oh, what? What? Magda, never had a drink, never had a guy. No, because it would mess up her perfect reputation in her perfect little life."
Magda looked up at Jinny, with silent tears running down her cheeks. "Don't you start your woe is me crap! I've put up with it for three years! And I'm sick of it! CD, take me home."
CD gave a final glare to Jinny and then walked Magda out.
Jack grabbed her shoulders and gently shook her. "Jinny! Jinny!" he picked her up and carried her kicking and screaming into their bedroom. Before he shut the door he mouthed to Nate, 'Get everyone out!'
Nate nodded in awe and shooed everyone out of the small apartment.
