Hello all. I was reading several messages on this board a couple nights ago, and I was shocked to learn a couple of things about one of my favorite shows, "Sanford & Son".

1. TV Land edits the show.

I find this hard to believe. I mean, I never saw Sanford & Son during its original run, nor have I seen it on any other station or own it on VHS or DVD, so I've only experienced TV Land's version. Why do they edit the show? Far worse things are said on other TV Land shows, such as "All in the Family". What possible things could be said or done on Sanford & Son that would even raise an eyebrow? You can find far worse things on today's TV.

2. Redd Foxx did drugs.

I came across a post that said Redd Foxx did drugs during the show. Is this really true? If it is, then may I say right now that I will certainly not enjoy the show as much as I do now if he did. Any person, let alone actor, that does drugs I have zero respect for. I'll still watch the show, but I certainly won't look at it in the same way as I did before.

If someone could please address these statements, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm always interested in learning more about my favorite shows even if they aren't the best facts.

Tvland edits Sanford and Son to death because its not politically correct to have a joke or a funny line with the N word in it they edit non offensive lines to just to make room for more commercials I saw the originals and the incut reruns on and they were great.

Tvland is the worst editor of classic shows by far but FX edits MASH reruns too not as bad as tvland though

They are so hung up on political correctness that they banned one episode of The Munsters because it showed Herman and Eddie standing up and fighting bullies Tvland get a life

To answer your question about Redd's drug use,I don't know whether he did or not. But I know that Demond Wilson did drugs, mainly cocaine, during the last couple of seasons of the show. He admitted this himself during an interview Entertainment Tonight did about Sanford and Son and what happened to the stars. I know that he wore dark glasses for some reason, possibly because of this, but I know that it didn't affect his work very much.

Never thought that was his reason for wearing the dark glasses but Thank God that God delivered him from that awful addiction and Now he is a minister/evangelist himself hard to believe he's in his early 60's now

Actually, teddybare, he's 56. That does seem pretty old though, now that I think about it...

If you think about it, Demond being 56 is really not that old since the show started 32 years ago. So he actually was 24 when the show started. He looked much older than 24 in season one.

I stand cottected Jimmiesgirl he is only 56 born October 13th 1946 in Valdosta Ga I was going by the age he played on the show early 30's so when he started on the show in 1972 he was only 25 playing a man in his early 30's he really had a range in his acting ability

Although when he first started playing the role of Lamont Sanford I didnt like him as much as I did as he grew older and his character mellowed and becaime nicer because In the first few seasons

I thought Lamont was mean and hateful to Fred always bossing him around being disrespectful but as the show went on with different writers his character became more mellow and nicer and I liked him alot more

He was born in Valdosta? Geez, I had no idea.

Well, I thought Lamont was mean and hateful towards Fred too. Hell, I remember one ep. when Lamont shoved him away from something.

I was in the bookstore today, looking at a book about classic TV history, and it said something about cocaine use being widespread on the Sanford and Son set - not just by Demond but by Redd too.

Don't know how accurate that is; I just thought I'd share it.
