I'm so bummed. We have a German Shepherd that is too large to be cooped out in the house all the time so I let her out into the yard for some fresh air and exercise. She's not even a year old and when she sees people she gets excited and barks. We don't let her out at 7:00 in the morning and we don't let her out at 10:00 at night. We understand that we have to have consideration for the neighbors. We're not unreasonable people. But a new family has moved in three doors down and their kids have taken to yelling at ME because of the barking. I try to bring my dog in the house when the kids come home from school but what happens when school is out for summer vacation and these kids are playing outside all day? I know kids will be kids and I DO expect that they'll probably tease the dog once in a while, but I find it highly improper to be yelling at an adult ordering them "Hey, tell your dog to shut up!!"

So now my husband and I have to take a walk over to speak to their parents tonight and my stomach is in knots...I am completely dreading it. We let it slide a few times as we don't want to see these kids in trouble but it can't be a situation where I can't even step outside my screen door without a bunch of kids yelling at me.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? :(

I think you are doing the right thing by talking to your neighbors. Hopefully, they'll talk to their kids and tell them to treat you and your dog with more respects.

You should definitely talk to your neighbors, but you should probably also consider trying to prevent your dog from barking at the kids. Some people are afraid of dogs, and maybe the kids don't want it barking at them. I had a similar problem with a neighbor's dog when I was younger. It would bark at me all the time whenever I walked by and it terrified me, and I'm a big dog lover.

Those kids also sound like they need a little lesson in respecting their elders.

What the hell are kids doing yelling at their neighbors to shut their dog up??!! Rude little bastards. I could understand some adults being upset if your dog barked at 4am, but you don't do that.

Sounds like these twits think they own the damn neighborhood.

They oughta come live in MY neighborhood, where dogs bark when they want, people play their music as loud as they want, when they want, and people bounce basketballs at 1am.

What the heck, these people just moved in and already they're complaining? You were there first and if none of the other neighbors are bothered by the dog, I wouldn't even worry about it. The kids' parents may not even know what is going on so it's not a bad idea for you and your husband to go talk to them. I'm sure they will set their kids straight and they won't be bothering you anymore.

these kids are always skate boarding in front of OUR yard, for some reason. The other day tho, this little boy got killed, because he was skating on this thing where u jump off at, and it fell apart and he fell back on his head and died

Ooooooo Do I know about barking dogs! I have barking dogs. My dogs bark if they see a moving ant. The way I solved it I had to put up a fence. I have no idea if you live in a house but, I had to put up a wooden fence. No matter though because one of my dogs HEAR the neighbors when they come out.

Damn kids...let your dog eat them.

j/k. I'm in a bad mood this evening. I don't know what to do in that situation, but it sounds like you're doing what's right. The kids are probably doing something to provoke your dog anyway. Don't get me wrong, I like kids (even tho I sound like I don't). They don't need to be yelling at YOUR dog though. I mean, I figure he/she is enclosed in your yard & can't attack the kids so they need to not yell at him. Dogs bark. Deal with it. I guess the neighbors that lived there before didn't yell about the dog, so he must not bark all that much.
I'm lucky b/c my neighbors don't bother me much. One of them is half deaf and the most noise you hear from them is his wife screaming at him that he has a phone call. Now I have another neighbor who is a weirdo..He walks around his house naked (we used to call him Nakey Man) and he walks around outside in Daisy Duke shorts. When he mows the yard he curses really loudly & it's really funny but kind of scary too. He just runs over rocks & sticks w/ his mower & it throws them on him and he cusses LOL! I've seen him ramming his lawn-mower into a log pile & cussing! It's funny! Another neighbor saws wood all of the time! He starts at 7 AM Saturday morning!

Oh meangya, seriously tell the little bastards to go play Tiddly Winks inside. How old are they? I bet theyre not even past 12 lil punks. This really pisses me off! I mean, so what if your dog does a little barking? Thats what dogs do!!! You're trying to be considerate by taking your dog out during the day so he doesnt bark during the night outside. You cant control a dogs bark and the dog has the right to go outside. Now, if the dog was going in their yard and stirring trouble, then yea thats one thing- but he doesnt do anything!

Um, I know this is kind of dark and depressing, but you ought to think of this too. Okay, if you talk to the parents, parents might ground kids, kids might decide to get back at you for getting them in trouble and they might do something horrible to your dog. You know how some people are and how much of a ****head they can be.

I'm not really sure what you should do. I'm sorry, but everybody makes noise. Dogs bark, cats meow, kids scream and yell, radios blast. That's life. Sounds like your neighbors need to realize that everything can't be quiet and peaceful. If they want peace and quiet they need to go and maroon themselves on a desert island. I'm sorry I couldn't suggest something, maybe I'll think of something.

My next door neighbors throw their junk over our yard all the time, and they just let their kids come in our yard. My mom gets mad about them all the time, she's had to call the cops on them already...

My neighbors are pretty good. They're either over 50 or they're reasonably mature middle-schoolers, so at least there's no wild parties or anything.
