View Full Version : Modeling agencies Hollow 04-21-2003, 06:34 PM . Georgia's on my Mind 04-21-2003, 06:42 PM im not too sure, but if you come across john casablanca's...dont sign up, i got"accepted" and its a total scam.... Krystal Lake 04-21-2003, 07:12 PM A word of advice: No good modeling agency will ask you for money. If they want you to pay for new headshots, bodyshots, etcetera, it's a scam and they'll never get you work. Check out some real agencies like Ford or Elite. There should be one in your area. They'll usually ask you to submit two professional glossy pictures in two different outfits. One in a dress. Good glossy photos will run between $500 - $750, but you will have to get them from your own photographer. If an agency wants you to pony up the money to use one of their photographers, turn away. It's a scam. An agency's job is to help YOU earn money. Krystal Lake 04-21-2003, 08:19 PM Here's links to their sites: http://www.fordmodels.com/ http://www.goelite.com/ *ShortCake* 04-21-2003, 08:23 PM also www.johnrobertpowers.net i think they have one where you are but im not sure.. they are good!! i go there.. i was "accepted" to john casablanca too but didnt go either. My sister's a model w/ JMT Management and she went to this big thing in NY...IMTA. And John Robert Powers was another agency there. ABlairican Pie 04-23-2003, 08:41 AM I belong to one, but I need to submit some more photos with my acting resume on back...I have a whole bunch here waiting to be used... This agency in Seattle steered me clear of one down the hill from them several blocks. I decided a few years ago, hey, I'd like to get into acting, appear in stuff, make good money, and this one glitzy looking place asked me for some money up front for a photo session, and so I coughed up some bucks and the session went well, and boy did I feel like, wow, am I gonna be going places...And the head of the agency said I did really well, and I felt really good and confident...so I waited for weeks to hear from them and then longer...Finally, I called them back and they told me that places looking for talent couldn't use me because I "didn't fit the age group" they were looking for... I was discouraged....after all the compliments and feeling good and feeling special, and all the glowing praise...:( So I went up the hill and these other people did a photo shoot with me and I got an assignment right off the bat--I was hired to impersonate Steve Ballmer of Microsoft for a video!!! They also told me the other agency I'd gone to was not reputable... I'm glad I switched to the one I'm with now. Mr. Stefani 04-23-2003, 10:21 AM be sure to have someone else fill out the forms. Agreed. I was with John Casablanca's and I had some good pictures taken for my portfolio just before I left them. Then after I left, they said they had "lost" the pictures. I also agree with what Crystal Lake said, no GOOD modeling agency will ever ask you for money. Something I wish I had known along time ago. Ewan's My Man 04-24-2003, 01:57 PM Originally posted by Sterling Holobyte I also agree with what Crystal Lake said, no GOOD modeling agency will ever ask you for money. Something I wish I had known along time ago. That's not all true. Modeling agencies need to train you, and they train hundreds of people. You need to pay for training. The one my sister works for, we hadta pay money for...but she's auditioned for a movie...modeled in 2 Aaron Carter concerts...and had 2 or 3 agencies interested in her when she went to NY. She's 11. She hadta pay for the NY trip too. And the agency she works for is the same one that sent out Katie Holmes...and some other ppl...I forget the sheet. People from that modeling agency are working in Europe now...b/c they put in the work AND they paid for it. Now that they're working though...they're paying it back. You will pay money to become a model...but you needta be good...b/c then in the end you'll get it all back. Ok...that's it...that's all I haveta say. All the "training" I received from Casablanca's, I realized later, was mostly worthless crap they put in there as filler to make you think that they were training you. The other stuff I needed to know I could have found from a book on modeling at the library. Sure, you need to work to get ahead, but you shouldn't have to pay exorbitant amounts of money to some vulture-of-an agency so they can tell you how good you are while they feed on your dreams! So, go get that book at the library; have some pictures taken by a (professional)photographer of your choice, preferably a photographer who's creative with their shots; go down to Kinko's and have them make up a composite for you, and show it to some reputable modeling agencies and if they want you, they want you, and if they don't, just keep trying other places. At least you won't be paying for "training". That's one mistake that I'll never make again. monkeygrl532 02-07-2006, 01:06 AM ok so i went to 1 of john casablancas modeling agency casting calls and made it and now they want my mom(bcuz im underage) to pay 161 a month for classes im going to be taking is that a scam or something bcuz this is my first time modeling so im not really sure if i should stop going there or something?!? Hollow 02-07-2006, 02:17 AM hay i remember this. for the record i decided to stop with the modeling; it was a bit of a pain in the ass, it's not something i was too passionate about and i took up singing instead. i avoid walking near those booths at the mall looking for models cuz they always call me overrrrr. monkeygrl532 02-07-2006, 02:30 PM lol yeah "JC" has a booth in a local mall here and they used to stop and ask me all the time in the past i hated that i didnt relize this till a few weeks ago Courtnee 02-07-2006, 07:11 PM I think you would have made an awessssomwe model, sarah :) |
