Remember the episode in the first season when Clair is thinking of having another baby. In that episode her mothers tells of people who have had kids at an older age, and how they came to there home with kids of there own. She warns Clair don't have another baby because this could happen to you.

I am talking about in latter seasons, the older kids, their spouses (Elvin and Martin), and kids of their own (Olivia, the twins) lived in the Huxtibles home. Cliff and Clair tried to get them to move out.

What Clair's mother warned would happen, happened in the latter seasons.
