Hello all. I watched Family Matters when I was younger, and stopped watching it when Steve created that machine to turn him into Stephan and they went to Disney World or something...then today, I had the TV on while I was working on the 'puter, and on TBS, it showed an episode where Eddie is a cop?? And Laura is dating the nerdy Steve, and not Stephan?? (I thought she liked Stephan, why didn't he stay that way?) And most confusing, where's the old Harriett?? Why did they replace her? Especially so late in the series. I know I should have kept up with the episodes and I would know all these questions, but it really confused me. Thanks!

Yeah, anyone who caught the last few episodes of Family Matters after not having seen the show for a while is bound to be pretty confused.

Well, first of all, Steve invented this cloning machine in the 7th season, cloned himself, and turned the clone into Stefan for Laura. So now, we have Steve and Stefan as separate people.

The 8th season was total nonsense--I mean, seriously, I don't think there was even one halfway decent episode that year. It's worth pretending that that season never existed...oh, and that was the year the Winslows adopted eight-year old 3J. In the 9th season, 3J sort of took over Richie's role.

So, now we're up the 9th season. Steve finally started wearing looser clothes, and instead of being an 11 nerd on a scale of 1-10, he became oh, a mere 9.2 (the fact that he retained that prepubescent voice is my second biggest gripe about this season). Laura started liking him after he changed his image, and Steve noticed this and got really excited. So, he broke up with Myra and finally--Good God Almighty, FINALLY--he and Laura started going out--even as she was also dating Stefan. Meanwhile, Eddie dropped out of college and went to the Police Academy to become a cop. Six episodes before the series ended, the original Harriette left and was replaced by a new one (my first biggest gripe). Laura finds that she has fallen in love with Steve Urkel, and when she is proposed to by both Steve and Stefan, she eventually chooses Steve (a truly beautiful episode, in my opinion).

So, there you have it. I'm in the minority on this board for thinking that the 9th season was the best, but it really did tie up a lot of loose ends as far as character relationships go. I sure would've like to have seen a few episodes from the 10th season, had there been one.

Wow, I don't think I even knew about the cloning ordeal in season 7. I must have stopped watching sooner than I thought. I thought I watched it all the way through until season 8, and then only caught a few episodes here and there during the last couple of years (season 9 I don't even think I saw a full episode).

I thought the transformation chamber was bad enough. But cloning? Steve Urkel and Stephan Urquelle, able to be in the same room at the same time? Now, that is just creepy. I shutter when I think of how the show started and then how it became.

Last week when I turned on TBS, I saw the second Harriet and Steve floating in space for some odd reason, and I clicked it off. I just don't think I'll ever catch that show again, but I have always been curious as to what happened in the end. And I never wanted to bother with an epiosde guide that gives info on the seasons one-by-one, for each episode, so thanks for the great synopsis. I have heard fans say they wish their was a 10th season so they'd find out what ended up becoming of Steve and Laura.

Hi Robyn, that you also for the explanation. I was so confused when I saw that episode on TBS. I loved Family Matters. I agree with the post above mine that it did get really weird towards the end. Thanks for the explanation of 3J. When I saw him, I thought they replaced Richie too, and he was Richie. But I remember 3J being Richies friend, right? Which is kinda dumb that they just kinda get rid of Richie, but somehow his friend gets to live there. I always liked Stephan, and was hoping (after the last episode that I saw about Disney World) that Laura and him would end up together. Like a lot of ppl on here say, Steve was just too old to act that nerdy, and like you said, with that nerdy voice. I thought Stephan was a good grown up version of him, and thought that would have been a good way to end it. Take care :)
