Yesterday we had to go to the diabetes drs. Guess what! Freddie'll come up in a bit I assure you! :)
They picked me to be in a Diabetes Study Clinical Trial diabetes study where I go to the hospital in Richmond every coupla weeks or so for 62 weeks as a guinea pig to test out some new diabetes medicine or treatment. I get paid for doing this & get
a new blood sugar testing meter & test strips for it free. The dr that is doing the trial (not any of my drs but one I'd never met until just then) said I'd get a new top of the line meter. Whoa, I get to road test one of those babies! I bet I have to test my sugars alot Arrgh. But the small price ya pay for getting a free meter & strips plus some $$$ & maybe helping find a cure. Should be interesting & I hope I help them find a cure for diabetes...Hubby didn't qualify for it being a type one but he can come & watch which is good as I don't drive anywhere without him as I don't like to drive in traffic alone not to mention the fact I would be afraid to leave him at home alone due to him
possibly getting into a low sugar attack.

It's gonna be rough having to make the hours trip every other week or coupla weeks for over a yr but I guess it will be worth it. The dr said it would take me anywhere from 5 mins to 5 hrs each time depending. The good thing is they can work it around our annual going for over a week to stay with my folks in May at a condo they have in Nags Head which they go to a few times
a yr & when they aren't staying in it, it gets rented out to tourists which helps pay for having bought it & also around our annual 2 weeks trip to visit hubbys sister in Ohio which will be this summer. So that's good. Won't disrupt my life too much LOL! I hope & pray they won't try to make me lose weight or anything. If they were to try to get me to lose weight I'd stay just as fat as I am to prove to them you can't lose weight no matter what
you do. I am living proof of that LOL! One good sign was the dr didn't say a word about my weight. That dr is supposed to call me May & let me know more. Evidently he must've asked my dr which of her patients would be good for the study.

Mike had tried out for the inhaled insulin trials once & got picked but never too them up on it cuz it would've meant a several hour trip to Charlottesville every week. Too bad that one wasn't held locally. :( I had recently saw on the news where some dr was doing trials on a new diabetes drug & some local man was on the trials & so it was really helping his diabetes. I hope this does for me!

Anyway enough on that as the exciting news is! :) There is a local easy listening fm station in the Richmond area.. Unfortunately they play some of that fuddy duddy 40's stuff but if you can suffer thru a fuddy duddy song every so often you can hear some good stuff. After the drs. we were on our way to go to the WALMART in Richmond & then go eat next & then after that go to a mall there before going home. I was flipping dials & happened to tune them in. They were saying on there that they play this thing 4 times a day that flashbacks on the past & played some clips from it. They said it was sponsored by a local 50's diner. Well lo & behold they started in the ad for the flashback thingy playing some of the CATM Theme song. When it was playing I think they had a sound bite/ sound clip of Freddie talking from CATM playing while the theme song was on. I was so excited I started screaming the CHICO & THE MAN theme song is on the radio. My hubby Mike is listening to his Walkman with earphones & asks me what I'm screaming about. I said the CHICO & THE MAN theme song is on the radio! I bet the other drivers are wondering why this woman is screaming while driving LOL! I have no idea what clip of Freddie from the show they played cuz I was so excited I couldn't even make out what he said! Well my right turn for Walmart came up & I was so excited I totally missed my turn LOL! Thank God WALMART has more than one entrance. I was so excited. I mean how often is the CATM Theme song & Freddie on the radio? Oh his sexy voice! Ah... But that was my excitement for the day! :) :) :) :)

Thanks I'll have to keep you guys updated on the diabetes study. The test strips for the meters are so expensive. It was nice to hear CATM on the radio...

Thats really cool they played the theme song and clip from the show!! I would've started screaming, too!!
Good luck with clinical trial diabetes study! I have no idea how much diabetes supplies cost--I bet it's expensive--it's great you get new testing supplies!
I do give a lot of insulin shots and do alot of blood glucose testing at work in the nursing home--there are about 15 insulin shots to give and, depending on what day of the week, as many as 20 blood glucose tests to do, several times a day! (We have about 100 patients) The most time-consuming thing is drawing up all those different amounts of different kinds of insulin and making sure each one matches the doctor's orders! Yeeesh!! Not to mention trying to find all of the different patients when it's time for their insulin! LOL!
I think we have come a long way in the study and treatment of diabetes, and thanks to people like you participating in the study, we will go a lot farther!
