I would like to find out if anyone out there has read the book "8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughters" by W. Bruce Cameron that the hit TV series is based on. Being a fan of John Ritter as well as the show, I noticed the book a few months ago at my local library and I was naturally curious to see if it was as good as the TV series and I found it to be very funny. In fact, when I saw the TV series premiere last Sept. on CTV, I recognized some of the lines directly from the book. My favorite was when John Ritter said to a boy who was about to date Bridget, "You make her cry, I will make you cry." The big difference that I noticed between the book and the sitcom is that the book's author tends to be very overprotective, sometimes obsessively so, although he does loosen his grip a little in the later chapters. This forms the basis for much of the humour in the book. My favorite chapter was the one where Mr. Cameron sits down with his daughters to plan their meals for the week ahead and all they want is pizza! By comparison, John Ritter, on and off the screen, is like a lovable pussycat. Even though he tries to take control and put his foot down in most situations, you get the feeling that his TV daughters can talk him into doing just about anything! Even Katey Sagal turns to mush at the very sight of him. Egads! Has Peg Bundy gone soft? She never treated Al that way! Anyway, if you can find a copy, read the book. I heartily recommend it!
