I know that Chico and the Man lost alot of ratings after Freddie died. But do you think the show would have made a fifith season if he hadn't died, when he did. I mean, Sanford and Son ended during Freddie's last season. I guess I'm asking if you thought the show had enough of a fan base that it didn't need Sanford and Son to keep it high rated. Just for the record, I think "Chico and the Man" is tons better than "SAS".
Just a nice little schedule thingy:
1974-75
-Sanford and Son
-Chico and the Man
1975-76
-Sanford and Son
-Chico and the Man
1976-77
-Sanford and Son
-Chico and the Man (Freddie's last season)
1977-78
-Chico and the Man (Raul's season)
-Sanford Arms (SAS spin-off)

Well if I had been in charge of the story lines and scripts, I would have loved to have seen Chico finally get married and have a kid. I still think this would have been possible, especially if Ed finally decided to retire and give the business to Chico. I could see Ed still hanging around, tinkering with cars or just hanging in the office, but he deserved a nice retirement, not stuck in some home somewhere. Maybe he and Louie would have retired together and shared an apartment so Chico could have the garage to himself with his family. Maybe Chico would have convinced Mando to go into business with him. Wouldn't that have been something! I could have thought of a lot of things for them to do with the show.
I still wish Freddie were here. He had so much to give with his talent. I think he would be helping George Lopez, maybe writing and directing his show. I know he would be taking an interest in Pie's career, maybe getting him better scripts (sorry, I think Jr could do better, IMHO) And I think Freddie would have his own Vegas show, sorta like David Cassidy has now. Freddie was so multi-talented, and I know he had a love for the live stage. As much as I could see him in the movies, I think he would be better live.
I sometimes think that he might be performing up in heaven. I know that if he is, I can't wait to catch his show someday. And I am sure he and Jack and Scatman are sure living it up up there!

Great question...........
I think there would've been more seasons with Freddie. Freddie had a BIG female fan base following his every move so the ladies would've defnitely hung around. Like Luckymama said there were plenty more stories left to tell with Chico and the Man and their friends. :)

I definitely believe there were many more seasons left. Freddie Prinze had hit super star status, and believe the show was going strong.
I bet Freddie would have finally decided to move on, and then the show would have stopped, just as the show Seinfeld did.

I wanted to add on to my last reply. He would have moved on from the sitcom, but not for another few seasons at least.

I bet if he had lived the show would've gone on & Chico would've married & had kids. Oh that would've been so nice to see! How I wish... :) :crying:

I was thinking about this and we all know how quickly cjildren age on TV a baby born on a soap opera one day is in college the next season...
I can see Chico and Mando taking over ther garage and Ed retiring and marrying Shirley(I liked her better than Flora and them bringing in Gabriel Melcar to play Chico and Liz's kid.
If they had been able to do it that way I think GM would have gotten a better break in his career.
Too bad it didn't happen that way
