View Full Version : How Much of "Little House" is Edited Now?
Jack1000 04-09-2003, 10:39 PM Guys,
We have two versions here. The TBS version (which seems to be pretty much intact--but I am not an authority on this.) It's on too early for me so the syndicate runs here on local Channel 41 and there are a LOT of commercial breaks. Is "Little House" syndicated anywhere where you live and is the TBS version pretty much uncut? (I was too young to remember some of the earlier episodes with regard to what was cut for syndicate and cable.) I am guessing that the original prints for an hour show ran about 45 minutes.
This information might be useful for those with DVD players who may wish to purchase season episodes. I don't have a DVD player, but for those that do, I sure hope that you guys get complete seasons on the DVD. That would be cool!

Cashodeen 04-10-2003, 09:29 PM I'm not an expert on this. I just remember us discussing this a few years ago on the other LH board I went to. Some people could remember when the show was on during its original run and also when it first started in reruns. They could recall parts TBS leaves out. In comparison with syndication, TBS edits only a tad though. Back when I had the opportunity to watch TBS and my local fox, I could tell TBS did better than syndication.
I wish I could remember some parts discussed on that board that TBS now edits. Maybe some people on here can help out.
donald snl 07-26-2003, 07:52 PM im not sure how much editing takes place but there is one maybe two se scences that need to be put back in to the ep where alberts real father comes after him one when charles tells albert that he has to go and live with mr quinn ther is a secence where albert tells laura that hes gon going to pretend hes blind so he wont want to k take him away this is why albert is stumbling around the room when he meets his father for the frist time its edited out 2 there is a big goodbye scene where everybody is crying boo hooing and huging be fore charelas takes albert to be with mr quinn the acting is a little over the top but i would still like to see that scene again i havent seen those scenes for over 20 years and would like to see them agaian
Jenya 08-01-2003, 01:10 PM There is a cable TV channel in Canada Called Vision TV (http://www.visiontv.ca/) that used to show Little House On The Prairie with no commercials at all. That was a few years ago when they showed it late at night. I know it's still airing on this channel, but now it's on at an earlier time. They do show commercials, but I wouldn't know if the show is edited.
Jack1000 11-29-2004, 11:36 PM The Hallmark Channel seems to be editing a lot of episodes. Today. "The Music Box" was on. (The one where Laura is blackmailed by Nellie to embarrass Laura's friend Anna, a girl who stutters, or else Nellie threatens to snitch on Laura for taking her music box.) There is an entire scene where Nels really gets angry with Nellie and tells her that she has to go to Anna's house to apoligize to her for mocking her stuttering. Nellie asks sarcastically, "Well, how do I get to Anna's house?" Nels answers, "Go to the Ingalls, Laura will know." Hallmark just shows Nellie going to Anna's house with no explanation for why she is going there. This is because the scene that I described above has been cut.

tulsa1960 12-01-2004, 11:44 PM on the episode town party county party
a scene where laura is shown taking a bath and falls asleep is edited out on the dvd,the columbia house video and hallmark.
tbs ran it uncut.
does nobody have the tbs versions on video?
Jack1000 04-04-2005, 10:50 PM Guys,
I think Hallmark is really butchering the episodes!!! They have commercials about every 10-15 minutes. I am sure that a good 5-10 minutes is cut out of each episode.

Beetlejuice69 06-22-2005, 11:41 AM What about the DVDs, are they cut? That makes me sick when my favorite shows are trimmed.

That is false. Little House airings on Vision TV ALWAYS had commercials.
McGillicuddy 07-27-2011, 05:48 PM Lions Gate is re-releasing the complete series set. I have never purchased this series because of edited episodes used for the dvd sets. I sure hope they do it right this time!
Schmoopie 04-05-2020, 02:56 AM This thread is really old but I have been watching on UP-TV and I don't really notice any editing, although they do show a lot of commercials.

UP edits out different things from Hallmark, but both channels edit. Here’s an example: in the episode “Times of Change” when Mary and Charles go to Chicago, UP (like INSP channel) cut out the prostitute who was sent up to Charles’ and Mary’s room. Hallmark keeps it but cuts out the restaurant scene with Mary, Charles, John and his boss. More gets cut from this episode; those are just the two main scenes that stand out because they differ by channel.
(It’s funny to think I posted on this thread SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO. Now we can just stream many things without having to buy the DVD set, lol. Episodes on Amazon are in their entirety and go about 50 minutes. Hour long episodes with commercials definitely get chopped. Channels like Hallmark and UP have 15+ minutes of commercials. Leaves 45 minutes or fewer for content. Everything gets chopped pretty badly now.)
Schmoopie 04-07-2020, 08:36 AM I actually used to have the first four seasons on DVD but when I moved to my condo, I decided to get rid of them b/c I'd yet to watch them. I did see where Amazon Prime has them for free with the commercials so I wonder if those are unedited as well. They have all nine seasons. When the libraries open back up I'm going to see if I can get the DVD's from them. I'm old school I guess. But I'll try Amazon prime. I don't really care about the commercials anyway, and the reason I've been watching them on UP is b/c there's nothing else on in the mornings worth watching.

They’re uncut on Amazon. They were commercial free on there until March, and it was actually removed for part of the month. Now they’re back on Amazon through IMDb TV. The commercial breaks have all been short. It’s cool seeing episodes in their entirety! I’m seeing so many scenes I haven’t seen in years… or maybe ever. DVDs work too.
