Billy Aaron Brown of ABC's '8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter' to Serve as HDSA National Spokesperson

NEW YORK, April 8 -- The Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) announced today that Billy Aaron Brown, co-star of the ABC-TV hit show "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," is the national spokesperson for Hoop-a-thon, a fund-raising and awareness campaign in support of Huntington's Disease (HD) research. The 21-year-old Brown plays Kyle on "8 Simple Rules," a sit-com that also features John Ritter as a befuddled dad of two teen-age daughters.

HD is a devastating fatal brain disorder that affects one in every 10,000 Americans and places another 200,000 at risk for inheriting the deadly gene.

HDSA Hoop-a-thons -- basketball free-throw events in which "shooters" are sponsored to shoot as many baskets as possible within a 3-5 minute period -- will take place in local communities across the country through May 2003.

The person who raises the most money at a single Hoop-a-thon will win a round-trip for two to Hollywood to attend a taping of an "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" episode and meet the show's cast and crew.

HDSA provides support for those affected by HD and their families, educates the public and healthcare professionals about the disease and funds HD research to find a cure.

If you would like to know more about Huntington's Disease or how you can participate in a HDSA Hoop-a-thon, please call HDSA at 1-800-345-HDSA or visit www.hdsa.org.
