Ok...one of my close friend's dad just died. I've never met him, but she's always talking about him. Now...um...when she comes back to skool...what should I say? Do? This is the first time one of my friends lost somebody THIS close to them. Well...that I know in real life. I don't want to like bring it up and make her all sad, but I don't want to act like I don't care and not bring it up at all. So...what should I do? Any advice would be VERY appreciated.

Just offer her your sympathies and tell her you will be there for her.

If she seems pretty depressed, just let her know you're sorry and will do whatever to make her feel better. Just let her know she has a friend.

Let her know that you are sorry and you are there if she needs to talk. Just try and act as normally as possible after that though, she will talk to you about it if she wants to and knows you are there for her.

The main thing that you can do for her is to let her know that she can just "sit there" with you. She can talk to you, or not. If she just wants to know that there is someone there with her, then let her know that's okay. You don't have to talk. You can just be there, in the same room, watching TV or listening to music.

My father died when I was a child. I always felt uncomfortable when people found out that he was dead. They usually got all quiet and somber, like they said or did something wrong; kind of like they felt guilty for bringing up the subject. That really bothered me. Not the fact that they mentioned my father, but the fact that they got quiet all of a sudden. She may or may not have the same kind of reaction.

Your going to have to take it a bit at a time to see how she reacts to things. Remember, the grieving process takes a while. Don't be surprised if she is really moody for a couple of months or so.

the best thing you can do for her is just be there for her be her shoulder if she needs someone to cry on and stuff like that My Grandpa just died recently and I was really upset and what made it worse was it seemed like none of my Friends cared (IRL or online) I think it would have made a HUGE difference if someone told me it would be okay and let me cry on them
but that would be my advice to you

Just let her know that you are there for her if she wants to talk, cry or even just sit there watching tv or something. My best friend just died and someone just being there for me helped more than people just sitting there trying to make me forget about it/ trying to make me cheer up.
