I got the Bio on Scatman over the weekend! There is one rather small but nice picture of the three of them, Scat, Jack, and Freddie together on set.
Scat was very open and honest about Freddie and though some of what he said was not as flattering as we like to read, It was tasteful.
When I figure out how to scan stuff so that it is readable I will post it for you to see and read.
an interesting note, Freddie's funeral was the last one Scat ever attended and that he did only because he said I don't do funerals but I thought it was expected I believe in doing what you can for people when they are alive.'

He did talk to Freddie when Freddie said I think I'll kill myself, he told him don't talk like that you have everything to live for. Think of yourself not what everyone wants from you you have to be true to yourself."
He said when he heard of Freddie's death he hated it but that his conscious was clear because he had tried to get through to Freddie just two nights before his death.
there is more but I just had to share the highlights.
anyone who knows how to scan properly so I can share the whole article here please let me know

Joy, if you want to just scan the files as is and email them to me, I can put them through the photoshop and crop and enlarge them so that they are readable.

Thank-you Joy for posting this information. It is very nice of you. I also feel that Scatman was a very good friend to Freddie. He was honest and caring towards him in all matters.

I will never forget the episode, "Raul Runs Away" where they FINALLY dealt with the loss of Chico/Freddie. Scatman was torn up. He cried real tears and did not try to conceal that fact. His voice cracked and he looked genuinely heartbroken.

I read that book. I really enjoyed it, because I have always felt that Scatman was a VERY underrated actor - and there's a huge lack of infomation about his life, and career in print. The book showed great insight into his personality, and I'm happy to know that Mr. Crothers seemed to be as warm and friendly as the characters he portrayed. I'm also glad that the book showed how much two different men (Freddie & Scatman), cared for each other. I think that there is an unspoken message in that - Friendship truly has no boundries.

I recall Scatman Crothers saying the very same thing when he was interviewed on television. I think it was around 1983. Scatman was very broken up as he was telling this story. I could tell that he missed Freddie very much. :crying:

The RAUL RUNS AWAY episode is sooo sad & a real cry. Better have plenty of hankerchiefs for that one. Even Ed (Jack) cries over Freddie. The flashbacks of Chico/Freddie will have you bawling your eyes out, it's so sad. On thing they did wrong in writing that episode is that when Mando gives Raul a van like the old one of Ed's Chico used to live in, Louie is so upset & asks Mando how could he be so cruel etc & Mando said it's been a year & Ed should be over it by now. As close as Mando was to Freddie, I know it had to have hurt Mando having to play his character like that... It is such a sad episode. If Freddie were alive & able to see that he'd have just cried his eyes out. It's so sad... :crying:

I too, think Mando was a little too cold and heartless in that episode. I really wished they would have mentioned how Chico died. I just pictured he went to Mexico for a vacation, (since both Ed and Della mentioned Chico being in Mexico) and while helping an old lady who was getting mugged, he lost his life.:(

To stay on topic, yeah Scatman Crothers was probably a good friend of Freddie's. The irony of the show is, Chico was in his twenties and full of life. Ed was old (well older) and was sure Chico would outlive him. It's sad that he didn't.

You are so right. They should've told us on the show how Chico died instead of keeping us guessing & wondering. It was as if Freddie never was until the RAULA RUNS AWAY episode excepot for one episode where Della says Chico sent her a Poncho from Ensenada...
