I read in a TV book that "Wings" is basically just "Cheers II". I've always found "Wings" to be more like "Taxi". Here's why:

Louie DePalma and Roy Biggins are alike in many ways. They are both the workplace jerks. They both have positions of power. And they both refer to their moms alot. Also, they both have a microphone to make wisecracks with.

The opening credits of Taxi showed a driving cab, as Wings showed a flying plane.

Antonio and Latka both had to get married to stay in the country.

Both Lowell and Jim are a bit flakey.

Everyone seems to turn to Alex (Taxi) and Joe (Wings), both the stars of their show.

Both Brian and Bobby are womanizers.

And both are in my top ten list.

So what do you think?

I thought that about Wings and Taxi too. A couple of others...

Both series had a cast member who appeared in one episode of one season, then came back the next season as a series regular.

On Wings, Joe and Brian hadn't seen each other in six years. On Taxi, Louie hadn't seen his brother, Nick, in six years.

I heard Tony Danza's real first name is Antonio, which means Taxi had a character named Tony played by a guy named Antonio and Wings had a character named Antonio played by a guy named Tony!

I love both shows too.
