I just experience having a tape stolen from me that was mailed last saturday. So the question is-if you sold a tape to someone and the person tells you it was stolen and askes you can you make that same tape for them again and gives you a different address to mail the tape to, what that be a problem to anyone? I haven't received his answer yet but i didn't waste anytime mailing him the money order so i hope it's not a problem.

If I have proof that I mailed a tape/package (insurance receipt, Delivery Confirmation number, etc) then it would be completely obvious that I did my part of the transaction. While I dont think I'd ask for complete payment on the same thing to retape, I would want at least shipping. I would ship to whatever address the person provides using Delivery Confirmation or Insurance, etc.

At first, i thought the tape was never mailed, but then he emailed me the tracking number and i called the post office and found out it was delivered to me on April 1st which meant it was stolen. But i knew something was wrong when it got to be 4 days and the tape still had not arrived because the tape went from NYC to philly. And that doesn't take 5 days so i figured something was wrong. So i guess i will just pay for the shipping fee if he agrees to make the tape over.

There is no specific time things get mailed. YOu keep saying it was 4 days and it did not arrive so I knew something was wrong. Last week you posted that someone mailed you a tape on Saturday and it got there Monday. The post office is fickle. I mailed a package Priority Mail the third week of January to the middle of the US from the East Coast and it took almost 2 weeks. Priority is supposed to be 2-3 days. IT just varies.

I wouldn't ask someone to make a tape again for nothing but shipping, if it were me. This person obviously did their part the first time so why should they take a cut to do it again? It's no more their fault than it is yours.

I'd perhaps take this up with the Post Office. Mail theft is a federal offense.

Id' also say in this case thank goodness for Delivery Confirmation because I'd hate to be accused of not having mailed something when I knew I mailed it.

:(

well how much effort does it take to recopy a tape? the tape was $8 dollars. So if i tell the person I'm giving them a more secure mailing address-i don't see the problem. So u would actually charge a person all over again tomake the same tape? you are wrong. You made a statement about priority mail. I had a situation where something was mailed 3-day priority from California to philadelphia. It was mailed 3/19-it's now 4/5-so is it safe to say it's lost or stolen?

How much effort does it take to copy a tape? It's not just about 'effort'. It's wear and tear, time spent, packing supplies, going to the PO again...it woudl be the exact same routine as the first time. If it's not the other persons fault why would you expect them to eat the expenses and loss? They more than did their part as you did. Who's to know that you didn't just get the tape and are saying you didn't? (I'm not saying this is the case, I'm playing what if). If the Delivery Confirmation Number says it was delivered then it was. You cannot deny that. The person probably wouldn't be obligated at all to even retape it.

You blatantly tell me I am wrong. Shocking to hear that from you because anyone who does not agree with ANYTHING you say or think is wrong.

Well i guess it would depend on the person. But even if you received the person's payment very quickly u still wouldn't be nice and remake the tape? Now if that tape was to get lost orstolen-then i wouldn't expect you to do it all over again.

I guess that would depend on whom I was remaking the tape for.

Someone else can chime in. I worked 14 hours today and I'm exhausted, I'm going to bed.

 I'm not liking this conversation one bit. I'm the one that Solomon is referring to. You should have tried to work things out with me first before you put the situation on trial asking opinions of the jury. If your stance is as perfectly reasonable as you believe it to be, then why need the opinions of others anyway? Are you truly doubting my ethics or your own? I got your email late this evening because I was out with my FAMILY and that is why you "haven't heard" from me yet. Yes, I'm entitled to a life and you could have given me at least 24 hours to respond. As much as I would like to, I can't just sit around all day per chance that I may receive an email.

For the record, everyone, I charged this person $8 for the tape. Not $18, not $28, just $8 to cover costs of a quality tape, a strong padded mailer, first class postage, delivery confirmation and gas to the post office. I jumped his order to the TOP of my list as a courtesy since he seemed to want the episodes so very badly, despite the fact that I was - and STILL am - behind on other trades. Now I am supposed to drop everything again at MY expense because HIS neighbor has sticky fingers.

Solomon, if you would now please check your inbox you will see that I had responded to your email before even finding this post. I am tied up with other trades. That is the truth and there are people here who can come forth and tell you they are still patiently waiting for tapes from me. If I were to do your tape again, I said I'd need fair compensation only because supplies aren't any more free for me than they are for you. This hobby can be expensive, that's just a fact. Believe me, I've poured hundreds and hundreds of dollars into my own collection. You don't want to take the loss for the theft of a tape that brings YOU enjoyment, but you expect me to want to? I wouldn't ask anyone to send me the tape again for free if the shoe were on the other foot. I'd consider myself fresh out of luck and be the first one to pony up another $8 since, after all, the tape is for MY enjoyment - not theirs. What makes my budget any more important than theirs? Everybody has bills to pay and I wouldn't expect someone else to take the loss for a situation that is not their fault.

Even from the beginning of this trade you were rather pushy and insultive in suggesting $8 is a sheisty price to ask. I could have blown you off for that but I let it roll off my back as a favor trying to put myself in your position knowing you'd been looking for the episodes for so long. Even when you full out ACCUSED that perhaps the tape was never mailed at all, I STILL kept my cool although I felt insulted, figuring you were just upset that it was missing and maybe didn't mean to be rude. Now you come here to plead your case before even giving me a proper chance to respond to your email. Solomon, your frustration is with whoever stole your tape. They are the one that victimized you, not me. I'd appreciate it if you'd channel that disappointment appropriately. I have been more than patient and fair even when you have openly doubted me.

You say you were "quick in sending me a money order" as if that's somehow a favor to ME. Tell me, just how did I benefit from this deal in any way? I'm still sitting here with absolutely NOTHING to show for it! The favor was for YOU. If anything, it's been nothing but an unwanted source of aggravation and insult after insult. Thank God for Delivery Confirmation or you'd probably be here calling me a crook even! Find the episodes from someone else. I am a very kind person but there is a limit and you've pushed it.

So if i tell the person I'm giving them a more secure mailing address-i don't see the problem.

A more secure mailing address? It seems to me that the seller didn't do anything wrong in the first place and shouldn't be held responsible. The buyer seems to realize that his mailing address isn't secure... (hmmmmm)

For the record, though it is extremely rare for a package to be stolen/lost, it is usually best all around to use delivery confirmation. Personally, after having mailed thousands of packages over the last five years, I would not take someones word for it that a package was actually stolen without a delivery confirmation #. The only time that's happened to me the situation has been suspicous, though perhaps I am very blessed.

Well i guess i forgot about the cost of the blank tape and the shippng. Since i have been ripped off just a week ago, i was desperatley not trying to take another loss but u have nothing to do with my last experience so i will just pay for the tape again and make sure the tape goes to a safer adddress. I guess since this was the first time in 7 months someone has ever stolen a tape that was mailed to me, i was not sure of what to do in a situation like this. I think the new address will be a P.O box.

I have to agree with grapejelly on this one.

priority shipping 3.90$$probually more
tracking /comfirmation--.45$
blank tape---1.00$$
packing materials, trip to the post office etc..??$$

Thats pretty much 8$$ right there.May be you make amends soloman, and pay for the tape again.Especially since the confirmation said ti was delivered.

I can vouch for grape jelly to be a top notch trader. One of my favorites to trade with.Good quality, good communications, new tapes, and of course a piece of paper sayiong what is on what tape and in what order.

Loses and not even getting your tapes will happen when you trade alot, but in this case the problem lies in the theif,a third party neither the sellar or the buyer, both did there end.

Wow...see what happens when I sleep. I said I hate sleep and I do!

I knew that this thread involved Grape Jelly and I'm proud of her for responding. She and Matt by far are 2 of the best traders I've ever come across, they are both sincere and honest and PATIENT people who go out of their way for trading.

Solomon needs to take this issue to the post office as it's mail delivery theft. It's not Grape Jelly's fault and insinuating that she should take the loss and deal with it on her own is wrong.

Bringing this issue to the board without waiting for resolution was wrong Solomon but of course you won't see that because you think that everyone else is in the wrong - except apparently the jackass who "stole" your tape!
