Oh Boy, Peggy Sue, That'll Be the Day, and some others...You don't hear enough of him these days, even though he was one of the most influential musicians in rock & roll. It's strange that rock & roll practically lie comatose for about the next four years after he died until the Beatles came along.

Would be cool if Brian Setzer does great rock n' roll again.Especially now would be the best time. When he revied it back in the 80s music still wasn't that bad.Now it's horrible. It would especially good to see a young group do some of the original king of rock n' roll or swing again.

I don't think there is a Buddy Holly song I didn't like so far. They're awesome. He has one of those voices the sounds good no matter what he sang.

OMG, this is a good time to read these posts again, now that I'm doing my history of rock and roll thread! I'm just reminded of how great Buddy Holly sounded, it must have been a revelation when he came out with his tunes!!! "Oh Boy", "Peggy Sue", "That'll Be the Day", etc.

True Love Ways
Rave On
Heartbeat

To Penny Lane, rock didn't die until the Beatles came on the scene. We still had Elvis, Ricky Nelson and the Everly Brothers to name a few non-girl singers/bands. The "shiny tooth guys" like Bobby Darin and Fabian don't count in my book. Did you know the Beatles waited for every Rick Nelson record and learned every song lick for lick? They didn't wait for Elvis songs.

Uhhh, and then when the Beatles did come onto the scene, then rock died?? I'm wondering if that could have been phrased differently... :happyface  I was also under the impression that between Buddy Holly's death and the arrival of the Beatles that the rock & roll scene was dead, but that wasn't really the case at all, I found. There just weren't any real movers and shakers who revolutionized music in the way that Elvis and Chuck Berry did in the 50's. Good performers, but nothing enough to give it that kick as before.

Stay tuned to my rock and roll documentary. It promises to get interesting....
