I got this from http://www.thefutoncritic.com and the news comes from Lifetime's upfront presentation about upcoming movies, series and specials in anticipation for the fall:

The primetime line-up also features specials and documentaries such as a "Designing Women" reunion produced by co-creator Harry Thomason featuring all of the stars, Delta Burke, Dixie Carter, Annie Potts, Jean Smart, Mesach Taylor and creators/producer Linda Bloodworth Thomason, sharing their favorite and funniest moments, as well as a 90-minute Andrew Solt produced "Golden Girls" retrospective that unveils the stories behind the laughs and celebrates one of the greatest comedy series created. Also, on the roster are the fourth annual "Women Rock!" concert for breast cancer awareness which this year will celebrate the movies and "Weddings of a Lifetime" specials.

Mark the calendars for Monday, June 30, 8 to 9:30pm, it will be like how TV Tales, TVography, ET Weekend, etc. are. More info to come!

EDIT: "The Golden Girls: Their Greatest Moments" will now air Monday June 2, from 8 to 9:30 pm. At 9:30pm will be an episode of The Golden Girls, where Blanche is getting ready to marry Harry but realizes she is a bigamist. At 10:00 pm will be a rerun of Intimate Portrait: Estelle Getty, followed by the regular Golden Girls airings at 11 and 11:30pm.

As of now, the Designing Women reunion is on tap for July 21, though that can change as well.

Is it on at EDT or PDT or CDT that you just said. I'm guessing you meant EDT time since your location is in NJ. Am I right? I can't wait for that day either.

There will be a story about this on tomorrow's ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT (on 4/29/03). They said, "Coming up tomorrow..the Golden Girls reunion, and why one of the girls couldn't attend due to illness.) We have to assume it is Estelle Getty since she has been ill for some time.

jayman75
04-28-2003, 11:40 PM
Here's what I did...

1. email lifetime television. I told them I was glad to hear about the upcoming show, and really enjoyed TGG. I mentioned this site and how much people have brought to it in discussing the show, and we were anxious for more. I asked them if they would consider doing for TGG what they do for DW -- going back to the original introductions because it would be great to see.

2. email the link posted in here about the show. Ask the girls a question. If they see a dramatic response, I think we'll be more likely to get what we want.

3. have your friends email. That way, we'll get more people on this one.

Thanks for the tidbit! I'll be sure to catch it.

Yeah, we have to assume it's Estelle. Which is sad, but not much you can do to change it. I'm sure the reunion will treat her as if she were there.

It is Estelle. They have also changed the format, it will be like a real retrospective now, where the cast is sort of together talking about the show. Not like an interview-fest like TV Tales, Tvography, etc.

ET says it is airing June 2.

Question, I was informed that George Clooney and Burt Reynolds are going
to appear in the reunion special, can
anyone vouch for this? If so, it sounds
like this special is going to be awesome.
Besides them, I wonder what other special guest stars are going to appear?

Hi,

No, I live in Canada, so no, I don't get Lifetime TV.

Why can't these specials be shown on NBC, I think that was the network that originally carried GG.

Last year, The Cosby Show, Mary Tyler Moore, MASH, Laverne & Shirley & more had reunion specials, and I would have been able to have seen them all, had I wanted to.

Also, I do get A&E Biography, yet the biographies on the GG girls seem only to be limited to this Lifetime channel. That, I do not understand.

It's just the clips... I heard those two mentioned, plus Leslie Neilson, Sonny Bono, and Bob Hope. Sonny obviously won't be there, and Bob Hope couldn't go to his 100th b'day celebration, because of his health.

Sonny Bono is dead, I think he was killed in a skiing accident, this happened a couple of years ago.

I didn't mean that Estelle was dead, I meant it was very sad that some of the stars of TGG is not going to be in the reunion due to death or illness. I meant that Estelle was one of the ill ones that are in bad shape, she has alziemier's and a disease similiar to parkinson's.:(

Miguel Marsh
05-02-2003, 05:30 PM
Another correction....

Not only is Sonny Bono dead and Estelle Getty NOT dead.

But Bob Hope is not 100.

The special last month was celebrating his hundredth birthday, however he won't hit the triple digits until May 29, 2003.

The only reason that special was aired when it was so that it could coincide with the May Sweeps period. If it ran closer to the actual birthday, it wouldn't be during sweeps, and, therefore, an unwise decision by network management.

(Especially since the special proved popular in the ratings.)

Someone also commented on the fact that Hope did not actually appear in the special. Can anyone remember his last public appearance? The most recent one that comes to mind is at a birthday for another Hollywood legend, Milton Berle. Although, Berle did pass away in 2002.

I just have one question. A lot of the talks to these gals and the websites, said a long time ago that there would never be a reunion and there is a reunion special. Maybe not a reunion show contiuing the series, but a special. I don't understand why they said there would never be a reunion and there is one now. I am very happy that there is one now. I doubt they will be together. Since it is a retrospective. I don't think the Cosby Show Retrospective had the cast all together as well. The Designing Women Reunion will probably be like Married...With Children's, the cast together talking about the show.

Pav -- Well that sucks. I just don't want it to be some "pull from the four Intimate Portraits" to get it all together. I want NEW stuff... Of course, Estelle won't be there, but I'm sure there will be some sort of tribute paid to her.

I see the commercial several times lately. I see that Bea, Betty, and Rue show that they are in seperate rooms. I wish they were together too. I really don't think there was a feud between Bea/Betty though. :( :( I'm sad about them not showing it together. Oh well, we never know what it's really going to look like and what they are going to say unless we watch it first.:( :(

This doesn't make it really sound like a reunion after all, because they aren't going to be together in this.:( :(

I was thinking they would be together, but since you said Jayman that from the commercials they won't be. Oh well. Even though, I've seen the commercials several times, I was still hoping they would be together. :( :(

This is on tvguide.com

Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Betty White recall their favorite memories starring on the classic 1985-92 sitcom about four older women living together in a Miami house. In addition, clips featuring Rose's stories about her hometown of St. Olaf, Minn., hilarious one-liners, scenes from Blanche's busy love life, and the mother-daughter relationship between Dorothy and Sophia. Also: never-before-seen outtakes; cast and crew interviews; a look at celebrity appearances by Bob Hope, Burt Reynolds and Leslie Nielsen. (VCR Plus+ 341444)

There is no listing for repeated showings. I would STRONGLY encourage you to tape this one... who knows when it will re-air (although I'm sure it will).

I only got to see around half of it because rain knocked out my satellite picture. Ah well. What I saw was nice, it was a good retrospective, but I would have preferred them together.

I still wish SOMEONE would clairify if there is a feud between Betty/Bea. I really doubt it, but in some of the bloopers... well, you'll see, lol. Other than that, all I ever see is how much of a good time they all had, so I just can't see Betty/Bea feuding.

Hey, I'd forgotten about this but actually found it while channel surfing. I wanted all of the Bloopers part, because that's what I wanted mostly to see; I love Sitcom Bloopers. I saw a little of the rest, but not much.

Darn!!! I missed it!!!

When are they re-running it? Since it was Lifetime's highest rated show EVER I'm sure they'll re-run it...

It will be soon in July and/or at the end of this month. Don't worry you will see it if you watch it during that day. :happyface

I have a video that I taped since a few months ago was "The Golden Girls: Their Greatest Moments". I've seen Betty White's appearence on that special where they reunite the cast. Now I kicked the habit of watching an ET special, "Behind the Walls of Full House".
