View Full Version : A 'Designing Women' Reunion Coming to Lifetime!
TVJunkie101 04-03-2003, 05:48 PM This is from http://www.thefutoncritic.com and the news comes from Lifetime's upfront presentation about upcoming specials, movies and series in anticipation for the fall.
The primetime line-up also features specials and documentaries such as a "Designing Women" reunion produced by co-creator Harry Thomason featuring all of the stars, Delta Burke, Dixie Carter, Annie Potts, Jean Smart, Mesach Taylor and creators/producer Linda Bloodworth Thomason, sharing their favorite and funniest moments, as well as a 90-minute Andrew Solt produced "Golden Girls" retrospective that unveils the stories behind the laughs and celebrates one of the greatest comedy series created. Also, on the roster are the fourth annual "Women Rock!" concert for breast cancer awareness which this year will celebrate the movies and "Weddings of a Lifetime" specials.
Christopher 04-10-2003, 06:42 PM What about the ladies that play Bernice and BJ will they be included in the reunion? Bernice was apart of the show for years she should be included imo
Thanks for the news :)
A reunion???? Sa-weeeet!!! When? When? When?
ClesStahn 04-21-2003, 08:54 PM I hope those people that played B.J., Allison, and Carlene aren't there. I hope Bernice's RL person is there though.
douglasjc 04-26-2003, 11:35 PM Designing Women reminds us all that sitcoms can have both purpose and great laughs at the sametime. I am glad there is going to be a retrospective of show, although to be honest I wish it was going to be a reunion show with the characters. In any case, I am glad to hear that Dixie Carter and Delta Burke have healed old wounds and are able to move on. To be honest, it was the relationship with Carter and Burke that help to bind the relationship with all the charaters. When that came undone the show came undone.
Pavan 05-20-2003, 03:27 PM It's airing Tuesday, July 15 at 8 p.m.
owepar 05-21-2003, 07:16 AM The special is being filmed on June 4th in LA. The original 5 principle players (Burke, Carter, Potts, Smart and Taylor) will be there, but Judith Ivey (B.J. Poteet), Jan Hooks (Carlene Dawber) and Julia Duffy (Allison Sugarbaker) are not scheduled to appear. As for Alice Ghostley (Bernice Clifton), she has been asked to attend, though her health is an issue, so she may not be present. More info is available at:

IamGGFan 06-16-2003, 05:08 PM Yeah, I'm going to try to watch this. I am a beginner on Designing Women btw. But I like it, it's funny. I will watch it if nothing happens.
Take care.
Rhiannon 06-22-2003, 05:01 PM I watched the one they did with The GG and it was pretty good, so I think the waiting will be worth it. As for Judith Ivey, Julia Duffy, and Jan Hooks not appearing, I don't really mind because I never liked them anyway. Especially Carlene because in the older episodes Charlene would always name her sisters/brothers and enerv once she she mention a Carlene...
ConservativeBalla 06-25-2003, 01:51 PM She does? I remember Charlene never saying anything about a "Carlene" in older episodes. I remember she says "Darlene, Marlene, and Harlene", but I never heard "Carlene" that I can remember.
Pavan 07-10-2003, 04:15 PM Lifetime has changed the Designing Women reunion date to Monday, July 28 now. 7-8pm Intimate Portrait of "Dixie Carter," followed by the Reunion until 9:30pm, the first episode at 9:30pm, and the two-part series finale during the 10pm hour. This will pre-empt the originally scheduled "Florence Henderson" Intimate Portrait to Monday, August 18 at 7-8pm.
Before you watch the reunion, ABC's The View will have a mini-reunion of their own on Monday (July 14):
MONDAY, JULY 14 – Celebrity guest co-host Carnie Wilson;
Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts and Meshach Taylor (“Designing Women Reunion”).

They are doing just like The Golden Girls retro. Same layout and everything. I guess they want to keep the same format for the success TGG got.
Bad_Company 07-14-2003, 02:11 AM i loved the DW pilot with Ray Don Simpson:lol: but i can't remember what the series finale was about ??
garrettgam 07-14-2003, 07:35 PM Part 1:
With Sugarbaker's in such bad financial shape, the ladies are grateful when B. J. gets them a job redecorating a house that resembles the great home from Gone With The Wind --- until they find out that the new lady of the house plans to rip out the grand staircase and replace it with an elevator. To make matters worse, B. J. finds out that their client is trying to take over Poteet Industries and plans to give Sugarbaker's to his young bride Kiki --- renaming it "Kikibaker's".
Part 2:
With Julia continuing to fight to save the antebellum Kearney mansion, B.J. struggles to save Sugarbaker's and Poteet Industries from a take over from the Kearneys. However, despite their efforts, Kiki Kearney announces her new plans for "Kikibaker's," Lester Kearney announces that the purchase of Poteet Industries is complete, and the modernizing of the mansion gets under way. Though Anthony and the women are fired for insubordination, when Craig, a friend of Mary Jo's, stumbles on some embarrassing news about the Kearney's illegal financial activities, Poteet Industries and Sugarbaker's are saved from the take over.

jayman75 07-23-2003, 11:06 AM Check out this week's TV Guide, with Richard Dean Anderson on the cover. There are a couple sections (not full articles) about the reunion. It was rated 7 out of 10 for highlighted shows this week!

I don't remeber the last epi either... Which one was it?
ConservativeBalla 07-26-2003, 10:53 AM Most people haven't seen it because it has BJ and Carlene. I haven't seen it or know what it's about either. Partially because I hate the seasons after Suzanne and Charlene leave.
*MIBabe03* 07-28-2003, 01:11 PM It sucks that I have to miss the reunion tonight because of work!
-*Forever*- 07-29-2003, 04:16 AM Oh my. This reunion has sparked my intrest in DW back up!!!
I mean, look @ my journal!!! www.livejournal.com/users/potion_mistress
I'm sitting here listening to "Bosom Buddies" when Julia and Anthony sing it
Penny Lane 07-29-2003, 08:20 PM I watched it last night on Lifetime. It was very good. Bernice was on there with the 4 originals. Also Gerald McRaney, Hal Holbrook, and Jean Smart's husband (who played Mary Jo's boyfriend, JT) I really enjoyed the show! I'm sure Lifetime will be repeating it soon.:)

Yeah! I know what you mean!:happyface
Pavan 07-29-2003, 09:02 PM Television for Women's Designing Women reunion grabbed a stellar 3.1 rating July 28, only slightly less popular than June's Golden Girls reunion, which scored a 3.7 rating.
ConservativeBalla 07-31-2003, 05:46 PM 600,000 people is "Slightly"? I could see that if it were of every American in the country it would be "slightly", but this is one show on one channel.
jayman75 05-16-2016, 02:35 PM Does anyone have this reunion on video, or know where to find it online? I would love to see it again.
I may have recorded it when it aired, but have no idea where it is. lol
At least the DW Reunion was an actual reunion- all the ladies were together, in the same room. That wasn't the case with the GG special.
Also- the 0.6 difference doesn't necessarily equal 600K- wasn't it a 3.1 household rating? meaning 3.1% of all households with TVs watched.

How so? What was the case?
jayman75 05-23-2016, 06:05 AM Rue, Betty and Bea never appeared together in the reunion. They only introduced individual segments... It was not a "panel discussion" like DW had.
The GG reunion is available on YouTube- you will see what we mean.

Ah...I see what you mean already, I just didn't realize that's how their "non-reunion reunion" was as I never saw it.
jayman75 05-23-2016, 03:56 PM There are photos online of the three ladies together, wearing the same outfits from the reunion special. I wonder if perhaps, because of timing, they recorded in three different locations on the same day, then met for a party at the end.
