ok...i don't know what to take for my science class next year. i want to take honors physiology but you need two years of science, and i've only had one. i'm NOT taking chemistry, i refuse. i think it's disgusting and subjecting us students to that is murder. i heard you have to be really strong in math analysis to do well in physics, but my friend knows this guy who's taking algebra II (which is what i'll take next year) and he's taking physics. he says he learns both subjects better.

has anyone taken physics? enjoyed it? hated it? :confused:

I have Physics this year. :barf: I mean it's not that bad, just be prepared to have a lot of homework and lots of formulas to memorize. I hate it, but that's because I'm not a math person. It's more of a math class than a regular science one, well at least mine is.

lol What's so bad about Chemistry? We never killed anything. Just mixed together acids and bases and then heated metal. Unless you're talking about Biology? That's the ony time we disected things. I remember our pig fondly from 10th grade. It was so hard disecting it because he was a tiny thing for its age, and instead of being pink, it was white and had black spots all over it. Poor thing...

Anyway, going back to the subject. If you like math, take it. And if you don't like it, you could always drop it at the end of the semester.

oh god, biology...don't even mention it. getting ot a bit...i love my bio teacher, he's funny and cool and everything, but he's sick! he has two brains taped to his board, one koala eye ball also taped to the board, he's got a fetus he found 30 years ago when he came to the school (he passed it around, it was then that i became even more anti-abortionist. you could see its eyes and feet and fingers) and he's got like disected animals, like a cat, under his lab tables. eeww...

anyway, chemistry is just confusing to me. plain confusing. we've done some pre chemistry stuff in bio this year and 2 years ago...it was just confusing. that's all that can be said. all these elements combine to make a new one? and then some elements pop out of nowhere...i'm sorry, but i am not buying that. lol.

what kind of math are you using in physics? if it's algebra, then i have no problem with it. math has always been my second favorite subject and i love algebra.

oh, and thankfully, the school district has banned us disecting anything. i think it's more of a money issue than anything else. but, if we did have to disect something, i'd be forced to free all the animals, even if they were dead.

ick i dont plan on taking it ever.. im taking honors chemistry next year and ill prolly fail cuz science isn't my strong suit... im done w/ science after next yr tho.

Well chemistry isn't that bad. As long as you learn the tricks, you pretty much have it. Physics? Uh....well it starts off with Algebra. A bit of vectors. Then you get more into some of the aspects of Geometry and Trigonometry, and even a bit of Calculus, but just the basics like derivitives. You might even get into convex and concave mirrors and lenses. But this is an AP class that I have of Physics. There's another one that I hear is easier because you mainly just stick to the basics. Overall, it's not that bad, just a lot of work. But if you're a math person, like you said, it should be okay I think. :)

geometry, trig, calculus, oh what fun this shall be. well, i'm just going to take the ae class, cuz if you want to take ap physics u have to take one year of physics and then i don't see a point in taking two years of physics. but, like you said it'll probably be a lot easier than ap. and if i have trouble, i'll just have my mom help me. :D

PHYSICS SUCKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad: Mine was actually a combined class with Algebra II and I hated my Alg. teacher, so yah.... that didnt help @ all. I hated it with a passion. The class wasnt bad, I just ugh.. the class. Biology was so much funner and easieer!

I've never taken physics, nor do I want to because I am a certified math ******. Chemistry really isn't bad, though.

I could NEVER bring myself to disect a frog or anything.:barf: I'm glad I never got to do it. But you do have to admit, without animal research, we wouldn't be able to find cures for diseases and life-saving treatments, right? There has been a big scandal going on at the University of Washington involving primates and monkeys used for research, though--they might be furthering goals in medicine, but in the end, they end up killing monkeys in brutal ways. They isolate them and cause them to go crazy, since monkeys are social creatures. So that's a big question: people may be finding cures for AIDS and other diseases, but they're cruelly killing monkees and making them live in hell in order
to do so.:(

How do we stand on this?

I have a lot of friends is physics and they hate it and say it's really hard. These are all A, NHS kids who are getting high D's and stuff in physics. I took Chemistry and didn't have a problem with it and I'm even a math person. Personally, I'd say take chemistry but if you really like math give physics a try.

i take it now, and if it werent for my teacher I would hate it!! but its hard and annoying...some things are easier then others, but its annoying!!! some stuff isnt too bad, but I love my teacher, I guess it depends...i didnt like bio...and im doing better this term in physics then last 2 which is nice:)

I'm taking AP Physics AND AP Chem next year.. ahh. I really like chemistry, I think it's really interesting. Most of the experiments aren't that bad, I've only lost 2 shirts to chemistry.. I took bio last year. The Biology course I took was mostly about genetics and DNA and we didn't do ANY dissections. I was really dissappointed. However, I did do dissections of EVERYTHING in my basic bio course(not IB). We started small with worms and fish and (of course) the frog, and by the end of the year we were doing sharks, fetal pigs, etc. We had some weird ones too, like sheep's eyes and cow's brains. At first, I thought I wouldn't like dissections, but they are really fun. They smell prety bad though..

anyway, back to Physics..
I hear that if you have a strong math background, Physics isn't that bad. The physics classes at my school always do these cool looking experiments on the football field and down the hallways...

I liked Biology and Human Anatomy, but I didn't like Chemistry and I never even bothered with Physics.

I'm taking biology this year it's not my best subjct. I will never take physics though-math and I don't mix. I really don't want to take chemistry next year, but it is required to graduate so i have no choice. Oh about disecting well my class is disecting through this certain comptuer program. So, we don't actaully use a live animal. PRAISE THE LORD!!! I swear if we had to do that i would faint. It grosses me out. Once we had to do this lab with raw meat and I was so gorssed out by it. I kept telling my lab partner to keep washing her hands so we wouldn't get ecoli lol.puke:

thanks for responding everyone. a lady came and talked to us about programming for next semester. i found out we need either advanced physical science (which is combined chemistry, and physics, and something else) or chemistry in order to graduate. so, i'll take the advanced physical science because i don't think i could stand a full year of chem. then, i'll take physics next summer.


oh...and in the ap bio class, they're cloning some kind of bacteria or something. i can't remember what it is, but it was in the school paper. my friend's in that class, but she hates it, all because of the teacher. he's really hard and annoying.

The only good thing abour physics at my school is that they get to take a field trip to Cedar Point, the amusement park in Ohio.
