'Beach Party' movies are my ultimate guilty pleasure (in no small part due to the presence of Morey Amsterdam). But I think my favorite non-DVD show role would have to be Richard Deacon as Rod Taylor's nosy San Fransisco neighbor in 'The Birds.' Mel with a mustache!

Any thoughts?

I liked Richard Deacon in "The Birds," too. If I remember correctly, he had hair, too!! I also liked him as Fred Rutherford on "Leave it to Beaver." I think he did both LITB and DVD in the same year.

Of couse, I liked Dick Van Dyke in "Mary Poppins."
I recently watched Mary Tyler Moore in "Thoroughly Modern Millie." It's not the BEST movie in the world, but it's pretty good if you like Mary and Julie Andrews.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Ditto....LOL! What I love about "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is the theme song that Julie sings! I can't get it out of my head!

Richard Deacon and Morey have more in common than just DVD: Annette Funicello.

I saw Morey in a Beach Party movie and I remember, when I was a bit younger, I would stay up to watch the old Mickey Mouse Club serials and Richard played Annette's uncle.

I like DVD in "The Comic" and "Divorce American Style" (but
couldn't take him married to a
Debbie Reynolds type after Mary)
and I liked MTM in "What's So Bad About Feeling Good" because it had
kinda her TV charm. But I think none
of them really worked well in movies.
DVD came close to it. But TV works
better with likablility and movies
rely more on charisma. And I guess
in '66 they thought everything would fall into place like TDVDS. Mary was
gonna be the new Doris Day and movies
changed away from that by the late
60s. And although I've never seen all
of Thoroughly Modern Millie, god I hate that movie. Mary is terrible
and it's just unbelievably bad. And
George Roy Hill was usually a great
director. I think for the most part
actors talents are better suited for
one or the other, TV or movies. Even
if they're successful in both. Ever see Rose and Morey in "Don't Worry,
We'll Think of a Title Later?" Other
than maybe DVD, if it was just for movies, we wouldn't know them today.
But on TV, they were fantasic, deserve it all, and can't be beat.
And Brando or DeNiro probably wouldn't have worked on TV at all.

Dick Van Dyke will always be linked to "Mary Poppins" and generations of children will get to know him first as Bert the Chimney sweep. In addition to this film I always like DVD in "Bye,Bye Birdie" and "The Comic"

MTM was of course great in "Ordinary People".
