View Full Version : Guy backs over his wife with pickup truck
justins5256 04-01-2003, 12:48 PM The thread on Tim McClure got me thinking about other instances where someone had a "final appeal" on UM, even though they were probably guilty.
Does anyone remember a story about a man who had a fight with his wife at a party, went home early by himself, and his wife was found dead on the road some time later? She had been backed over with the truck she was driving. The husband claimed he wouldn't have had time to travel from his house, to the road, kill her, and return home (to place a phone call maybe?). I remember the update saying that he eventually plead guilty to manslughter and got off with a few years in prison.
He was on UM (prior to the manslughter conviction) to "clear his name".

rerungirl 04-01-2003, 01:48 PM I remember this case but I'm drawing a blank when it comes to this guy's name or the state it took place in. His wife had just come into some money and authorities speculated that might have been his motive for murdering her.

I can't think of the man's name either (at least not yet), but I recall that it took place in Virginia in September of 1987.
Thracian 04-08-2003, 05:01 PM His name was Robert something, but I can't remember the last name. I always thought it was interesting that he was eventually convicted. I'd love to know more about that case.
xTattooedDollx 08-07-2023, 05:21 PM Oh I remember this one (except the name lol). It shows the wife meeting him when he was released from prison for a drug charge. They used to fight about her drinking all the time, and she had a DUI. They fought at the party they were at because he overtipped the female waitress. So, the wife took off in their pickup and he ended up getting a ride home from fellow guests of the party. The VERY day she was murdered, she had just inherited $50,000.
StackTime 08-07-2023, 08:22 PM The victim was Kay Hall. Her husband Bob was eventually convicted of the crime.
I like that we're reviving random 20 year-old threads. It's like shaking a tree to see which of the long-dormant accounts will come back to reply
xTattooedDollx 08-08-2023, 09:23 PM I'm brand new here, lol, and I'm just so fascinated with this forum!
schmave 08-09-2023, 11:00 PM I always thought it was extraordinary luck that Bob Hall just happened to find Kay in that terrain, then run over her and get back home in time. That is the only reason I thought he might have been innocent.

I remember that feeling well. I felt like the only person in the world who could possibly be this preoccupied with the cases on this show until I found this forum.
Welcome!
Or So It Seems 08-14-2023, 01:55 PM What I appreciate about these old threads is knowing that we live in an age where all the information is readily available online, and that you can bring up most segments to watch within 2 minutes. What a difference from 2003.
Labonte18 08-14-2023, 05:45 PM So.. Someone help me out with this. I do not recall this case whatsoever..
Bob and Kay are at a party at a country club.. They both seemingly have drinking problems and are drunk.. She gets in their truck and starts driving home, from what the wiki says, very drunk. Bob catches a ride with friends.
The timeline from the wiki..
Shortly after 8pm, Kay left the country club. At 8:45pm, Bob was dropped off at home almost fifteen miles away. Just over an hour later at approximately 9:55pm, Kay was discovered two miles away in the opposite direction of their home. Bob had just about an hour to drive more than fourteen miles to the site where she was found, locate her in the darkness, kill her, and then drive back to make that phone call.
How in the blue hell do they suspect that he knew where to find her? I mean, if she left and was heading home.. Wouldn't you look on the route to the house? Not 2 miles in the opposite direction?
I get Bob made statements that led to his arrest.. But.. I just can't noodle through this timeline and how Bob would know where to find her.
She couldn't have returned home and they left in her vehicle, because.. He couldn't have made it home in time.
Here's my takeaway from this.. I hope Virginia's DUI enforcement has gotten a whole lot better in the past 30 years.
