View Full Version : Was Lucy-Desi Comedy hour ever in color?
MamasFamilyFan 11-14-2001, 06:08 PM HEY everyone, i recently became an I Love Lucy fan, only to learn that nick at nite was taking lucy off the air, to tv land a channel which i dont have! I really hate nick at nite now, and Im dying without my lucy. The only hope i have is to buy the series on video, and i noticed that there was a lucy desi comedy hour series. I just wanted to know if the show was ever in color, and how many episodes were there? I heard that there were 13, but only 12 have been released on video--why is that?
PS- the lucy anniversary celebrating on CBS last sunday was EXCELLENT. I hope another station decides to pick up heres lucy, or i love lucy, or life with lucy, just as long as i see lucy!
Also, in case u didnt know, if you get the AIN station, they air the Lucy Show sometimes (on my cable provider its channel 68, but you can never depend on ain to show the lucy show all the time)
I LOVE LUCY!!!!!

Dashing and daring,
courageous and caring,
faithful and friendly with stories to share.
All through the forest the sing out in chorus, marching along as their song fills the air;
Gummi bears, bouncing here and there and everywhere. high adventure that's beyond compare.
They are gummi bears.
Magic and mystery, a part of their history,
along with the secret of gummi bear juice.
Legend is growing,
they feel by the knowing,
they fight for what's right in whatever they do:
Gummi Bears!
bouncing here and there and everywhere;
high adventure that's beyond compare, they are the gummi bears.
They are the gummi bears!
~Thank you Jim! lol

Because it was too depressing. No, no, I'm just kidding. I believe #13 (the last one) was not released, but I really don't know why.
Lucy-Ricky-Fred-Ethel DID do a special film, more like a promotional film for Westinghouse that was filmed during the same time as they were doing the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hours.
Somehow a friend of mine gave me a copy of it a few years back. The film lasts for about 20 minutes and its pretty much Lucy trying to get Desi ( thats what she calls him in the film-it fact they all used their real names , even Vivian vance called Fred -Bill ) to buy her the latest 1958 Westinghouse products . The most interesting thing about the film was a short tour Desi gave a CEO from Westinghouse of Desliu Studios.
The film was in B/W. Never heard of an unreleased Lucy&Desi-color show.
LucyFan 11-15-2001, 02:19 AM I don't recall "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" ever airing in color. It would be cool if a company colorizes them and station like TV Land airs them.
davy's niece 11-15-2001, 05:33 PM Hey I saw that Westinghouse thing. It was great. There is a movie of rare video clips of them. The Westinghouse dealy, where they are on Toast of the Town, uh where they are on a game show, and some more. There's outtakes from I Love Lucy, Lucy-Desi comedy hour, The Lucy Show, and I think that's it.It's pretty neat. Kinda boring but neat lol. And in the beginning Desi's all like its Westinggouse when you put together the gho it sounds like go. He did all stupid..and Lucy said "It's a dilly!" That was great too lol. Bye all.

TV Guy 11-16-2001, 12:38 AM Desi originally wanted to shoot the "Lucy-Desi" hours in color, but ultimately the budget couldn't accomodate it. Too bad.

There are several colour "home movie" recordings of the LDCHs. Look at "Lucy & Desi: A Home Movie" and you'll see a couple. Also, several sets of recovered, colour home movie footage (of the comedy hours) aired at this years Lucy Convention in CA. I know Lucy's sequence with Red Skelton was included, as was the Uranium episode, the "Valentine" number with Ricky, Little Ricky and Maurice Chevalier, parts of the Sun Valley episode, Lucy on that Racehorse, and I think also the Milton Berle episode? Anyway, it was just fabulous (although without sound, and a little faster than actual running time, but they managed to slip in the sound to match it up at the end of each clip), and thoroughly enjoyable. Probably as close as one can get! Also, parts of the Scotland episode (from I Love Lucy) were filmed in colour (home movie footage), apparently by DeDe Ball. This can also be seen on "Lucy & Desi: A Home Movie".
