Hey

I just got my Biography magazine in the mail and it had an article about Lucy in it. The magazine has Tom Cruise on the cover.

Comedienne
Lucille Ball
August 6, 1911- April 26, 1989

Whether she was stuffing chocolates in her mouth on the candy assembly line, slurring the pronunciation of Vitameatavegamin, or just figuring out a new way to sneak into Ricky's act at the Tropicana, we loved Lucy.

The funniest lady of the century, Lucille Ball created Lucy Ricardo, a character so zany, lovable, and hilarious she seemed destined to live forever in worldwide reruns. Her brilliant slapstick performances, backed by a flawless ensemble cast, made I Love Lucy television's #1 rated show for four of its six seasons (1951-'57). When Lucy and Ricky's son, Little Ricky was born in 1953, an unbelievable 92% of the national viewing audience tuned in to watch the episode. In many respects, Ball invented the television sitcom. Mary Tyler Moore once called Lucy Ricardo "the greatest creation in television history."

But while Ball played a wacky redhead onscreen, offcamera she was an astute businesswoman. A second-tier Hollywood actress, she was working in a radio comedy called My Favorite Husband when CBS asked her to develop a television show along the same lines. The result, I Love Lucy, starred Ball and her real-life husband, Desi Arnaz. The couple, parents of Lucie and Desi Jr., also set up a production company, Desilu. When they divorced in 1960, Ball bought out Arnaz's shares, making her the first woman to head a Hollywood film production company.

Ball was honored by the U.S. Postal Service last summer with a stamp to mark what would have been her 90th birthday. Proof that our love for Lucy lives on.
