If you're sitting at home right now, 3pm eastern, and you haven't seen Lucy and Desi Behind the Laughter, it's on Lifetime right now. Feel pity, feel shame, but watch it for all its incorrectness.

I thought the actor playing Desi (Maurice Bernard, I think? Isn't he on General Hospital?) was horrible. He didn't give any depth of feeling or maturity to Desi; he came off as a teenager in love with an older woman. Frances McDormand was better, but it wasn't much of a performance. I thought she made Lucy come off as rather hard. They had zippo chemistry together, and you couldn't believe they were in love with eachother. I got a kick out of the black and white scene from Lucy Thinks Ricky is Trying to Kill Her; that was pretty bad..! I didn't like that actress as Ethel either.... dawsongirl 11-01-2001, 10:53 PM Ugh! Isn't this horrible though! You're right, Maurice Benard was really miscast as Desi. The accent really got me. Sorry, but Desi DID NOT TALK LIKE THAT! And the overacting...sheesh. And you're right about Francis Fisher too. She came off like she was in desperate need of another cigarette and there weren't any around. In my opinion, Lucy was much sweeter and feminine during that period. No wonder Lucie denounced this film; right on girl! NCVARick 11-02-2001, 12:04 PM Originally posted by dawsongirl: Ugh! The people who made this film obviously knew NOTHING about Lucy and Desi's real personalities -- or that of Lucy's fiesty mother, DeDe. As Lucie Arnaz said when this film first came out on CBS, it was nothing but a cartoon. Roz1013 11-02-2001, 01:57 PM Whoa, sorry I missed that one, lol. ------------------ "Don't take this personally Ethel, but I'm sick of the sight of your face." melluvslucy 11-02-2001, 11:36 PM TRUE THAT! Someone wanna give me a good reason as to why I should?? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/lol.gif dawsongirl 11-02-2001, 11:55 PM Originally posted by melluvslucy: Someone wanna give me a good reason as to why I should?? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/lol.gif So that you can make sure it works before you sell it? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif |
