Does anyone remember a show called Barnaby Jones with Buddy Ebsen and Lee Merriwether??? I watched this as a teenager in reruns on WWOR-New York on cable. It was a detective show. Barnaby Jones' son was killed and Lee Merriwether played his daughter-in-law and he was looking for his son's killer. In 1975, Mark Shera joined the cast as Lee Merriwether's son. The show lasted for 8 seasons from January 1973 to 1980. That is one show that I want to see again. Anyone out there remember it???

I don't ask people age its rude But I'm 35 and I loved to watch B.J.1.to watch how he solved crimes and secondly to watch where are the now actors still working today.Cannon and mannix and rockford files were the same for me.B.jones was a great show because B.Ebsen and lee meriweather and mark shera made the show feel like a family run PI biz.You could see loyalty and support and kindness with all three leads.I miss R.Files and Mannix-I personally adore Mike Connors as a performer and as a man,

Hi, Harper!! You don't have to be rude about telling your age. I am going to be 32 in August myself.
I love watching the Rockford Files, you always knew that James Garner was going to get his man every episode.
Another show where everyone was like family was Matlock. Andy Griffith had a close knit cast with Linda Purl and Kene Holliday, later with Julie Sommars and Clarence Gilyard Jr.(who later went on to play on Walker, Texas Ranger),and still later with Brynn Thayer and Carol Huston and Daniel Roebuck.
I would like to see some more shows coming back in reruns like:
Barnaby Jones
Cannon
Ironside
The F.B.I.
Mission: Impossible
Mod Squad(my favorite show that I haven't seen in a while)

Barnaby Jones would be a great addition to the Hallmark Channel.

The F.B.I.

It currently airs on Goodlife. Not a lot of people get that channel, though.

I forgot to add Nancy Stafford to the Matlock list.

I just remembered I have 6 episodes recorded from Canada. It was a good show from the episodes I have seen.

Back then I used to watch Adam-12, Mannix, Cannon and of course Barnaby Jones. Buddy Ebsen last acting role was a cameo as Jones in the comedy remake The Beverly Hillbillies ('93), which I found it to be the highlight of the movie.

There were a lot of great detective shows back in the early to mid 70's:

Rockford Files
Barnaby Jones
Mannix
Cannon
Columbo
MacMillan and Wife
Streets of San Francisco
Ironsides
Starsky and Hutch
Baretta

Lots of great television. Columbo, MacMillan and Wife, Starsky and Hutch, and Baretta have all been released in season sets on dvd. Rockford Files First Season is about to be released on dvd. I wish that they would produce a Season Two set for Baretta and also a Season Four for Starsky and Hutch. I guess Season One for Baretta didn't sell that well. But I'm surprized they haven't released the Fourth Season of S & H because they've already released the first three seasons.

Signed,
Respectfully,

I used to watch it but for some reason I only seem to remember Bradford Dillman and Gary Lockwood playing the bad guys in what seemed to be every third episode or so LOL. And they seemed to always put Lee Meriwether in danger.

i remember that show! I remember Buddy Ebsen started it the season after THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES went off.

It was produced by Quinn Martin, who produced a lot of cop and detective shows in the 60s and 70s. THE FUGITIVE, CANNON, THE STREETS OF SAN FRANSISCO, HARRY O., and many others. You could always tell his shows because they always had a deep-voiced, dramatic-sounding announcer who always said, after he said the shows name "A Q.M. PRODUCTION" and the show would be divide into 4 "acts" that were broken up by the comerciall breaks, then at the end the "tag scene" would be called the "epilouge".

When I recently rented THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES movie, after the first 10 minutes I realized how AWFUL it is; but I decided to suffer through it, until Buddy Ebsens cameo as Barnaby Jones. I couldn't even make it THAT FAR before I HAD to turn it off; it was so HORRIBLE!!.

I liked the show, and someone in the threads (you, actually--AtlantaBravesFan29)--mentioned that it would be a great addition to the Hallmark Channel. I agree. I remember this one recurring theme in many, if not all of the shows, where Buddy Ebsen goes into a bar and typically orders a glass of milk. Anyone else remember that?

There were some good detective shows in 70s, like Rockford Files and Columbo. Barnaby Jones is not memorable. Buddy Ebsen shouldn't have been in a detective show. He was perfect for The Beverly Hillbillies, but a detective he wasn't.

I haven't seen Barnaby Jones but it's been mentioned on a few of my shows. On Mad About You Paul and Jamie were taking a vacation where the only TV channel was airing a Barnaby Jones marathon. On Newhart George's favorite show was Barnaby Jones.

I watched it back when I was in high school in the mid 90s. It had a bit of a cult following in my circle because of how ridiculous it was. It seemed like every death was caused by a newspaper strike which caused the victim to fall and hit their head on something. Plus old man Barnaby chasing down these young thugs was a sight to see. But I did watch it religiously for those few months.

Maybe Shout! Factory can produce season 2 of BJ to DVD? I wish they would!
