The other day in the library, I thought I'd look for the newspaper from 4-27-89 to see what the Detroit News had to say. I found it, and one of the things in it was a quote from Lucy from 1983. She said once Lucy ended, she figured she'd live a few more years than die. She didnt think shed live this long, and now she missed the Lucy character. Im assuming thats what gave her the spunk to want to start Life with Lucy in 1986. Anyone whos seen that (I never have), was it really that bad? Even at 75, I cant picure anything with Lucy getting bad ratings.

It certainly got bad ratings (there's no dispute over that), whether it's actually THAT bad or not is disputed, however. (I have never seen it, though.)

Um, how shall I explain this. It's different. It's still Lucy doing the typical Lucy physical comedy, but, well, Lucy Ricardo had this feminine touch to her, but Lucy Barker did not. And I think the jokes and such are just trying too hard. Actually, the actors were trying too hard.
It's one of those things you'd have to see for yourself, but it definitely was not up to par. Lucy was too old to be doing that kind of thing. I think she needed a more reserved outing.

Well, put, Dawsongirl. The writing was really corny, and Lucy didn't get much help from the actors playing her family (you would have thought they were doing theater from their overly-broad performances). Both Lucy and Gale were really too old for this type of show. Lucy's comic timing was completely gone -- she was very noticeably reading off cue cards.
