What did you guys think of his speech that got him booed off the Oscar stage tonight?

He did the same speech when he won last night at the IFP Spirit Awards only he didn't get booed there....

Director Moore Scolds Bush from Oscar Stage

LOS ANGELES - Politics grabbed center stage at the Academy Awards on Sunday as the winner for best documentary, director Michael Moore, charged President Bush with waging a "fictitious war."

Wagging his finger from the stage as he was both applauded and booed by the assembled celebrities, Moore said, "We are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you."

Moore won for "Bowling for Columbine," a provocative film on the roots of gun violence in America, whose title refers to the Colorado high school where two students massacred 13 people before killing themselves in 1999.

Moore, who received a standing ovation from the assembled celebrities, invited the other nominees for best documentary film to join him onstage in solidarity against the war against Iraq.

"We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in a time where we have fictitious election results, that elect a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons," Moore said.

Oscar host Steve Martin joked after Moore finished speaking that "the Teamsters are helping Mr. Moore into the trunk of his limo."

He shouldn't have said it at an event like the Oscars, but he did have a valid point.

Right. The boos drowned out the two cheers he got, probably from Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.
Michael Moore is an idiot.

Ya know, i've always been a fan of Micheal Moore. I have enjoyed his films, and on these boards I have praised some of them.
I respect his opinions, but he looked foolish.

There shouldn't be booing at the Academy Awards.

Michael Moore is a great documentarian, but looked like an idiot out there. I don't need to be hearing celebrities thoughts on world politics. These same fools who gave anti war speeches last night, are the same people who gave roman polanski a standing ovation for winning best director. The guy fled this country after he drugged and raped a 13 year old girl. Sorry, but the oscars pissed me off last night.

I could not believe that they gave Roman Polanski a standing ovation too.........

What a shame........ It must've been child molesters and perverts who stood up!

His movie, "Roger and Me" from several years ago was very succcesful. He's had one recent best seller that I know of. His documentary film "Bowling For Columbine" has been hugely attended at theatres. If anything, his comments on The Oscar stage might slow down his ability to get his word out. He made the same speech at another awards show the night?? before The Oscars. It didn't cause any particular ire there. I suspect that the 'Boo crowd' conducted a preemptive strike, (lol) at The Oscars. Personally, I didn't care for his comments in that forum. But I hate it when someone is judged so fully by such a relatively trivial thing. We'll see what comes of it. I'm sure the radio blatherbubs are having a field day. But in these times, Moore's comments will probably get burried in the rubble of real war.

I had no idea who he was before the speech.

I suspected Michael Moore had been sabotaged at The Oscars. Aside from that though, It's only fair- and interesting - to give the guy a listen. This link is an an article by Michael Moore about the speech at The Oscars. He also writes about his personal principles. Whether you all-together agree with him or not, he does makes some very reasonable points.

I noticed after I posted this that there is quite a conversation going on in the war section about Michael Moore. I only posted this to give another side to the story. If you don't like Michael Moore don't yell at me about it, lol. I'm just the messenger:wave:
