View Full Version : How Did They Write Ashley Out?

Forgive my dimming memory cells but I don't recall them specifically mentioning why she and the Fonz were no longer an item when the Final Season premiered! I guess Linda Purl likely wanted off the show to do other things but did they bother to mention what had become of Ashley or did she simply vanish into ChuckLand? When 'HD' was ending and Gary Marshall was writing a 'TV GUIDE' article about the series, I distinctly recall the article headed by a cast photo with the Final Season Regulars... .and HEATHER but Ashley was nowhere in sight (which I thought odd because Heather was no longer on the show either). Got any ideas?

I don't actually remember the episode number, but it was during the final season, where abrief explanation was given. Roger & Chachi take Fonzie to some kind of singles resort to get his mind of his breakup w/Ashley. The reason was Ashley's husband came back and had cleaned up. He wanted another chance ,so Fonzie backed of so Heather would have a chance at having her family back together. I know they are late in the eps now so may or may not have aired yet on TV Land.

Ashley got back together with her ex-husband before the start of the last season. (Although it was never seen.) Fonzie gracefully stepped aside because he knew Heather wanted to be with her dad. As for why Heather was on the TV Guide cover but not Ashley...no idea. :) Anyone??? Anyone???

The episode where we find out that Fonzie broke up with Ashley is called "Where The Guys Are." The episode never truly appeased me as a goodbye to Ashley and Heather. As a viewer, I don't want to be TOLD about a break up, I want to SEE it. But, that's just my opinion.

I agree but it's possible that Linda Purl and producers had too many differences for Ashley to have appeared in a swansong episode! Anyway, thanks to you and the others who DID remember the episode!

I really would have liked to have seen Fonzie and Ashley get married. Maybe the producers of Happy Days decided against it, because Joanie and Chachi tied the knot, and they felt that 2 weddings would have been a little much.

Nope. They were sopposed to be married at the end of the 10th season, but low ratings forced them to cancel that idea, and get Rid of Ashley.

Too bad they didn't, I would have enjoyed that. :( Didn't ratings get even worse after that, though?

I guess it kinda served 'em right for writing off Ashley! BTW, I saw the episode last night and what was interesting was that the woman who consoled the Fonz at the retreat was played by the SAME actress who'd played Fonzie's last floozy he went with when he first thought Ashley had totally rejected him at the beginning of their courtship- Rita Wilson [yes, the future Mrs. Tom Hanks]. It was good to see her playing a more likeable character who COULD have been someone for the Fonz to seriously date instead of being this stupid bimbo we weren't supposed to care about Fonzie using to keep from facing his feelings re Ashley initially rejecting! Anyway, I'm glad they gave Ashley a good way of exiting [if they had to do it at all]!

I think I speak for everyone, when I say we'd all like to think that Fonzie & Ashley eventually did get back together and
get married.
