I know the title of the show was originally called Laverne Defazio and Shirley Feeney but was it the second season that it changed and does anyone know the reason?

Well maybe they did it to like establish the characters? So like during the first season everyone knew that they were named Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney? Er

Or maybe they just felt like shortening the title, lol.

Maybe they thought that people would have a hard time referring to the show if they left title the way it was.

Right, "Laverne and Shirley" comes off the tongue a lot more easily than "Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney". Five versus eleven syllables--you do the math.
