Does anyone notice or this may just be me, When Lucille was staring in "I Love Lucy", Lucy seemed so petite , Then when "The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour", She seemed to gain alittle weight, she looked a bit bigger. Then in 1962 when she did "The Lucy Show" She seemed to be a much taller and bigger woman?? Then when towards the 80's she was again a petite woman?? Does anyone notice that???? Oh well she was still a very attractive woman!

It think a lot of it has to do with the frumpy clothes they put her in. She looked...fat and frumpy.

I think when Lucy turned middle aged is when I noticed her vast changes, But, you're right. There seemed to be times when she appeared taller.

I always thought she was thinner on "The Lucy Show."

Yeah, trading in the flats for high heels can do amazing things to one's height.

I think they're talking about her height, not her weight. She was pretty slim on TLS. On ILL, she started out chubby, thanks to Lucie Arnaz. About the time she was starting to slim down, she got chubby again, thanks to Desi Jr. She later settled into being slim on the show, but not as slim as she was on TLS. For a time around 1958, she was even a little chunkier than Vivian Vance.

Yes, that's the way I've always thought it to be. Now, speaking of height, I know she would wear heels in ILL, but didn't they want to make it seem like Ricky was noticably taller than her? Seeing the shoes he would wear, they looked like they had a pretty good size heel on them.

Yes, i think Desi got most of his shoes from the Otis Elevator company!

At the dinner party at the start of Fred And Ethel Fight, he's sitting on a pile of cushions to regulate the height around the table. It looks far more noticeable that way than it would be if he just looked a bit smaller!

They had a real height issue in those days though, didn't they. Audie Murphy refusing to act with anybody taller than him, and his leading ladies having to stand in ditches and goodness only knows what else. Why they bothered with Desi is anybody's guess. So long as he's big enough to wallop his Conga drum, what else matters?!

I never knew about that scene. And it being noticable, how could I have missed it! I'm sure I'll catch it next time I watch that episode.

Mickey, I just saw that scene (tonight's episode) where Ricky is sitting on cushions. You are so right--it would have been less noticable to just sit in the chair without them! The TV Land logo was covering up the chair, and I could still tell.

Good grief, if the logo was covering up the chair it must be either stuck in the middle of the screen, or very, very big. No wonder people compain about these onscreen logos. Very bad idea all round, IMHO.

Whoops, I meant to say the logo was covering up part of the chair--the part with the cushions. Ricky was sitting on the right side, and the logo was in the bottom of the right corner. You mention the middle of the screen... if Ricky was ever sitting in the middle I missed it because I came in late on the episode. Or maybe I was watching a different episode than you spoke about earlier. It wouldn't suprise me if we could see him sitting on cushions more than once during the series. lol.

I never even noticed the pillows till i kept reading it on the boards. Mickey, the worst one in movies was Alan Ladd, insisting that a trench be there to put his taller co stars in in all those westerns, guess they've always had vain primadonnas in the movies.

Well, to be fair it's not always the actor's fault. It can be the director or the studio. Funny to think of some of the famous scenes in cinema, thouhg, with one person in a trench, and another in platform shoes, and all the dye hiding grey hair, the make-up...

Actors are a funny bunch at times!

True, but any actor who insists that his co stars get down into trenches so that he will look taller should go into another business.
