I'm guessing I'm the *only* one who hasn't read Desi Arnaz's autobiography? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif

I was lucky enough to find it several years ago at my college library. I hadn't seen it anywhere else. I have seen it recently at various online bookstores, but they want a lot of money for it. If your town has a good library, see if you can find it there. It's an excellent book.

I can understand the face. You have to keep an open mind when reading the book. By open, I mean not only for his take on things, but for sex and swearing. And if you want the same type of story about the two that you read in Lucy's autobio, don't look too deeply here. It's there, but not as much.

Uh, take for instance the stories about the hookers in the brothel in NY. The part where he says something about it was probably not a good idea to go see Polly's (the madam) girls the night he married Lucy could PO a few people. Open mind...

Lucy's autobiography was incredible; I've never read A BOOK, though I've been thinking of buyin it. I think I might have a hard time reading it, even though I like Desi.

I can't imagine Desi would ever say or write anything mean about Lucy.....

No, it's just that occasionally their love life is described in a little more detail than most of us would like to hear. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Oh well, it's still a good book, you just have to have an open mind about things like that. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif

I hate to bring up an obviously shore subject but what's the story with onlyonelucy and Desi Arnaz? I detect some animosity and have no idea why.

I need to pay closer attention to this board.

The book reccommended by Lucie Arnaz is called "Desilu" and it is written by Tom Gilbert and Coyne Stephen Sanders I believe.

Yes, Sex, swearing, cheating, womanizing, drunkedness and lying to Lucy. That's what it's all about! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/mad.gif

Hi Terry. To be honest with you, I don't care for Desi. I think what he did to our beloved Lucy was soooooo wrong. I don't respect a man who can cheat and cheat and cheat and cheat, stay drunk, publically humiliate her and finally......... break her heart into a million pieces. People say that it was in his culture....BULL. I don't buy it. I know that his father was the same way and he was raised to think that it was ok but come on....if he loved Lucy, he wouldn't have done it. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif

Onlyonelucy, yeah what he did was wrong and if I were Lucy I would've been VERY po'ed at him. But she loved him and he loved her, and that's much more deep. I'm just sad at how the ending turned out...Lucy didn't wanna be bothered and just played games while Desi just wanted to be left alone and fish. Sad ending to a happy love story if ya ask me!

Neither do I. I was raised to think that was bad. I do like Desi, but his personal choices were ocassionally in very bad taste. He is human though.

Cherry, I agree with everything you said. I don't approve of everything Desi did, and Lucy was a woman of exceptional strength to tolerate his behavior for as long as she did.

I do like Desi though; despite it all, I think he was a good man. If Lucy loved him, that's good enough for me. The Lucy/Desi home movie was soooo moving; I cried when Pamela Ball (Lucy's niece)talked so movingly about how she wished that Desi could come back and they could all be a family; and would tell Lucy to let everyone in (emotionally), that they loved her. The last scene at the pool was enormously touching. I'm glad that Lucie (and Desi) were able to have some good memories of their parents together, not bad ones from their childhoods.

Well, for my two cents, I think that Lucy didn't deserve to be cheated on at all. Nobody deserves it. The woman had everything she ever wanted except for a faithful husband. I can't help but feel sorry for her because she's Lucy and in that respect I don't really respect Desi for what he did to her. Sometimes I get furious just thinking about it! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/mad.gif OH and HOW! So I have to agree with OnlyOneLucy on this one.

Thanks Mel! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif I cannot smile on this subject because it makes me so upset to think of the _ _ _ _ that Lucy went through.
As much as I love her, I have to defend her.
Just put yourself in her shoes for a minute and imagine what she was going through with the man that she would die for, yurned, worshiped and couldn't live without. Please guys, don't think that I am arguing with you or wanting to start anything because I don't. I just like to share my feelings and hear yours too in hopes that it will make me calm down about it all (after all these years). I just cannot accept what he did therefore, I don't have any respect for him.

I agree he was a louse but we have to also remember he was the love of Lucy's life.

Yes, I realize he was the love of Lucy's life and that's why she was so much more hurt by it all.

onlyonelucy, I respect you for defending Lucy. I'm in the middle of a similar battle on the game show thread. Anyway, I think you're right about the emotional stress and things. If I were her I'd either never come out of the house or be mad as hell.

Thanks for agreeing "Dawsongirl". I think that Lucy was an extremely strong woman and she didn't stay in the house because she wanted to hold her head high and not let her fans down. However, she did throw herself into her work doing Wildcat and then she became ill http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif

I'm sort of lost here. I think we're getting away from the point, maybe? All's I'm saying is that, yes, Desi did do mean things to hurt Lucy but through it all Lucy still loved Desi. It's kind of like the saying "You hurt those you love," sad but *true*.
