Hi all!

Just wondering if any of you know whether or not plans are afoot to have ARCHIE BUNKER'S PLACE released on DVD. If not, does anyone know if there are plans NOT to release it? I think with the SEASON sets of 'All in the Family', 'The Jeffersons', and now 'Good Times', that A-B-P should also be given the same treatment. Besides, it technically isn't a 'spin-off' of A-I-T-F as much as it's an extension of it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the show will see a DVD release. It deserves to, as does Maude' (if only to have the 'Archie Alone' episodes, where Edith dies, for posterity; like it or hate it, no collection is complete without it!).

Anyone know anything?

Ed

Hey! Welcome to the board. :)

Well, about your question, I seriously doubt if the show will ever be released on DVD. You never know, but I just seriously doubt it. I wished they would because I've only seen like half the episodes, if that many.

IF ABP is an extension of AITF, then I am sure we will have to wait for all nine AITF seasons to be released on DVD before ABP is. As of now, I think only the first two AITF seasons are on DVD, which are by far the best years anyway.

I doubt it because it was really the classic sitcom that All in the Family. Or should i say that the episodes of All in the Family from 1979-1983 was not as powerful as the episodes from 1971-79.

I agree, I think after all 9 seasons of All in the Family are released on DVD by Columbia TriStar, what better to continue the series on DVD by releasing the continuation series, by putting Archie Bunker's Place on DVD, right after it.

It may be, but they will probably focus on All In The Family DVD sets for now. But I wouldn't count on it, as the old show is considered a classic, while ABP is considered to just be an okay show. It certainly didn't have the same quality of writing and characters. Once you take away Meathead, Edith and Gloria, there's no conflict and all you're left with is a mellowed-out Archie. Compared to the early seasons, he was a peach and far more tolerant than he'd been - would Archie in 1971 have even considered a black maid???

If anyone is interested in ON SET photos of the original Bunker house, I took 14 PHOTOS on the set. They are available on my website:

It sure should be; it's part of AITF. ABP is better than anything on tv today; we have 2-3 comedies in the top 20, as Archie would say Whoopee! It's pretty good after 12.5 seasons, when you lose Stapleton, Reiner, Struthers, Balsam and Meara to still get around 30 million people. Remember that it still had a nielson rating of 18.3 for the season before it was axed, and no tv show today can say that. So after releasing all 9 seasons of AITF, then start getting the 4 seasons of ABP out.

I doubted it because I thought AITF/ABP was the same show. So to me thats releasing season 11 of AITF and seasons 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are not on DVD yet.

It is and it isn't, depending on how one looks at it. But it's Archie and that's all that matters.

You can't compare the ratings of yesteryear with the ratings of today. Back in the 70s and 80s, TV was THE big medium. Now, there is the Internet, cable, etc. ****ing moron.
