I was watching Barney miller last week and noticed on the board where the guys show if they are in or out I saw Dietrich's name on the board. I know this before he every apeared on the show because Chano was in the epsiode. Was Dietrich the name of a cop the series creator worked with?

Steve Landesberg made two guest appearances on the show before he was a semi-regular, then a regular. First he played a priest and then he played Dietrich later on that same season. And this was all before Chano left the show. After Chano left, Dietrich was a semi-regular, sort of like Wentworth before him. And then after Fish left, he became a proper regular.

So I don't think Dietrich's name actually showed up on the board before he was introduced. It probably started showing up after that initial guest shot, where he was partnered with Fish and then Fish threatened to resign and most of the episode took place at Fish's apartment. I don't know if you saw it, but it's the one where Steve Landesberg does that really funny impression of Gregory Peck. I get a kick out of that every time.

I checked back to last week and T.V Land was airing the episodes in the 20's right now, and i do remember the episiode in which Dietrich goes to Fish's house. So that was atleast a season after his name was on the board.

I'll have to agree with egregiousgirl on this one. Do you recall exactly what episode you saw last week where you saw Dietrich's name on the board? The gist of what it was about will do. I probably taped it.

Yeah, you've said that, but... do you recall in which episode you saw the name "Dietrich" on the board for the first time? The "Fish" episode was in the middle of the second season, so not too many episodes had transpired.

After Dietrich first appeared, his name was on the board for the rest of Season 2. He was only in that one episode!! :lol:
