View Full Version : What sitcom have you tried to get into but just couldn't continue to watch the show?
TVFactFan 03-15-2003, 01:49 AM I watched this show several times before I gave up on it but it never seemed to hold my interest. I always turned the channel before it was over. This Sitcom is Welcome Back Kotter. Anyone else know of a show they could never get into?
shocolah 03-15-2003, 01:54 AM I could never get into "Cheers" and I've tried watching "8 Simples Rules" but don't like it. "The Nanny" - I really did try, but they should pull the plug on it on Lifetime.

I could never get into Cheers either. After the first time, i knew i wouldn't watch again. I don't like 8 simple rules because the father gets no respect from his family. I don't want to see a passive father.
Pitooey 03-15-2003, 09:53 AM I never could get into seeing MASH. I've tried but, I think it's the background colors. They're mostly gray and it depresses me.
*PinkLady* 03-15-2003, 09:56 AM I couldn't get into Wings, Welcome Back Kotter, Cheers, Mad about You or MASH.
Unwanted Angel 03-15-2003, 10:33 AM I couldn't get into.
Cheers
Wings
Step By Step and
Family Ties
I LOVE 8 SIMPLE RULES!!!

Yes M.A.S.H. was DRY and Boring. Put me to sleep.
Barnabas1 03-15-2003, 11:43 AM Father Knows Best and The Beverly Hillbillies.
Janice 03-15-2003, 11:57 AM My sister loved MASH, so a few years ago, as a favor, I told her I'd watch it. I watched it everyday for a couple of weeks, but it didn't grab me. I just didn't care for it.
I Love Lucy bores me as well. I can watch an episode here and there, but I don't like it.
I gave 8 Simple Rules a shot when it debuted because I really like John Ritter. It focused too much on the teens and wasn't for me.
I've been watching My Big Fat Greek Life on Sundays, but I'm getting that feeling that I won't be watching for long.
David 03-15-2003, 12:56 PM *I couldn't get into Family Ties. Michael J. Fox was just soo smart.. it got on my nerves
*Less Than Perfect.. tried to get in, but it kept pushing me out
*Sabrina... it's just so not funny
*Drew Carey... It has this different sense of humor that I'm not into
*Cheers.. it just seems so tiring and boring
*MASH... above
*Scrubs...Dont really like it...
David 03-15-2003, 12:58 PM *Father Knows Best... boring
*Coach...dont really like it
i try to get into a lot... especailly if its on Nick At Nite
Sitcomwriter 03-15-2003, 04:21 PM Mash.I hate Mash.I tried because my father loves it but I just don't like it.It's boring.
Cactus Jack 03-15-2003, 07:07 PM Bob Newhart and MTM Shows were like this at first, but they quickly grew on me!:D

Exactly my thoughts. I love the theme music though, lol, and the ending music (i think they're each a little different)
SBTB Geek 03-15-2003, 09:36 PM I can't get into M*A*S*H either.
Bonnie1983 03-15-2003, 09:36 PM Whooo hoooooo finally! Some other people who don't like M*A*S*H! I thought I was all alone in the world when it comes to my hatred of that show.
I can't watch M*A*S*H without it making me feel sleepy. Whoever decided to class it as a sitcom? It's not funny at all and really slow paced and boring.
Other shows I tried to give a chance but couldn't like are Seinfield and the Simpsons. I'll never understand all the hype that surrounds those programmes.
LucyFan 03-15-2003, 10:07 PM I tried watching The Beverly Hillbillies, Taxi, All in the Family, & Maude but all four didn't catch my interest. Same goes with M*A*S*H and The Cosby Show.
The ones that I tried and succeeded were Mary Tyler Moore, The Bob Newhart Show, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, The Golden Girls, and Here's Lucy.
dawsongirl 03-16-2003, 02:25 AM The Lucy Show. I just can't watch it. Here's Lucy's kinda tough sometimes too.
mstewart 03-16-2003, 03:49 AM Cosby - The chemistry between him and Phylicia Rashad was not the same the second time around. They were a dynamic couple on The Cosby Show.
M*A*S*H - Cannot stand that program and tried to watch it.
Barney Miller
Cheers during the Kirstie Alley years. It was one sex joke after another. If this was real life Sam Malone would had some kind of sexual disease or AIDS from the way he was sleeping around. What a whore.
Mad About You - The dialogue was too excessive and I wanted to tell them to shut up and do something.
Roseanne
Married with Children
Hangin With Mr. Cooper
For some reason I have never gotten into All in the Family. I keep trying because everyone likes it. It just doesn't appeal to me.

I felt that way about All in the Family too but it kind of grew on me. But it's only ARchie that makes me watch it.

The show Cosby, was the stupidest show ever created. Reason because why would Rashad and Bill Cosby played a married couple on another show when they were Clair and Cliff Huxtable for 8 years.

Why not? Cosby and Rashad are actors and they wanted to work with each other again. Is that such a crime? I personally like Cosby better than The Cosby Show.

No i don't agree, So that means Isabel Sanford and Sherman Hemsley could play the Johnsons instead of the Jeffersons. Would that make sense? They played the Jeffersons for 10 years, and playin another married couple is stupid.
Sean Snow 03-16-2003, 12:09 PM I've tried to get into Cheers, M*A*SH, and The Cosby Show, but I don't really like them that much. I mean I can watch an episode but when it's more than one it gets boring for me.
When Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and Happy Days were on N@N, I used to love them. But now they don't hold my interest very well.
There are some others that I can't think of at the moment.

I still don't see what the problem is. Tons of actors work together again and again despite the fact that they might have done tv shows or movies together. They are actors not characters.
vze3t9q9 03-16-2003, 08:54 PM Most shows of the 1990's I couldn't get into. I last saw a new show on weekly basis was in the early 80's. THen I was into
Dallas and the night time soaps. I can't see any thing funny or entertaining to watch anymore. ALso as one grows up you see shows differently than when you were a kid, I loved Laverne and
Shirley when it was on in the 1970's. Now I see it and wonder how in the heck could I watched that. One poster wrote that they didn't like Father Knows Best. In you were a teen in the 50's in was a hot show. But 40 some years later. and it just doesn't cut it with the new generation. I watch it occasionally.
Pitooey 03-17-2003, 12:16 AM For a long time I tried to sit through Seinfeld but, for some reason I didn't get the humor. I didn't find it funny.
I agree with the poster who posted about Cheers with Kirstie Alley. After she came on I lost interest. I just could not get into her and Ted Danson.
I did like Cosby though. At 1st seeing Phylicia Rashad with Cosby did bother me but, as I continued to watch it. It did have a good supporting group of actors and I quickly received the notion that these 2 actors who were on The Cosby Show can again be together as a different couple.

Adamantium 03-18-2003, 03:09 AM The Jeffersons - I watched it a little bit on Nick @ Nite, but found that I didn't care for the show. My sisters love it, though.
The Cosby Show - Same response as The Jeffersons.
Friends - I went as far as buying Season 1 on DVD, but I just don't like that show.
Malcolm in the Middle - I saw a couple episodes and wasn't impressed.
Sanford and Son - There were some funny moments, but not enough for me to watch the show all the time (or any more).
Gilligan's Island - The 1st episode was okay, but my life is fine without Gilligan and the castaways in it.
Reba - My younger sister likes it, so I gave it chance. Since I like to laugh during a sitcom and I didn't laugh once, I passed on this show.
Bonnie1983 03-18-2003, 03:16 PM With Cheers I actually like the Kirsty Alley eps a lot better.
I could not STAND the character of Diane. I found her to be nothing but a self centred b**ch. She was so annoying.
For me the Rebecca character was much more entertaining and funny but I do agree that they over did the sex jokes.
Impressions 03-19-2003, 05:23 PM I've tried to get into Cheers, The Bob Newhart Show and The Love Boat, but they don't catch my attention that often anymore, I started to watch these and I'm not that interested in them that much anymore, and after awhile they became tiresome.
I know that I will be in the minority, but I never thought that Seinfeld was that funny.
friends, bewitched, hogan's heroes, bob, suddenly susan. And peculiarlly enough I could never get into The Honeymooners, even though I loved it's animated ripoff--The Flintstones.
To reply to a previous poster, I too perfer "Cosby" over "cosby show." That Doug e. doug guy was funny--the first sesason was the best with all the farcical episodes. Remember the "older & out" episode where cosby & doug e. doug mistakenly went to a club for homosexual senior citizens, but they didn't realize it until the dancing started. Then there was another episode where some woman was accidently locked in a closet or something. The show only sucked in later seasons when it tried to be morr like "the cosby show."

I watched Seinfeld on occasion during it's original run, but I can't stand to watch it in reruns.
treky 03-21-2003, 02:09 AM Newsradio-I've tried to watch it, but it's just NOT FUNNY!! (to me, anyway)
the early "Bewitched" episodes (the black-and-white ones) same thing-I don't know-must be me
Suddenly Susan
Hogans Heroes-I used to like it when I was growing up, but then I found out how unrealistic it is-like all the germans speak perfect english, with a German accent, and Hogan and the others can mascerade as germans, and never get caught-now I think it's just so stupid!!!

Bonnie, you are my new best friend! :D I also greatly prefer Rebecca over Diane.
Anyway, for shows I just couldn't get the appeal of:
I Love Lucy- I know it's a classic, but whenever I try to watch, it just bores me to tears.
Friends- Shouldn't they have all died of AIDS or some other STD by now?
Three's Company- I know a lot of people here like it, but I feel like I'm watching the same episode over and over again. Same with Friends.
Frasier- I loved the Frasier Crane character on Cheers and I did like the show the first couple of seasons, but I never thought it was all that great.
Seinfeld- Never found it funny. I liked some of the supporting characters, especially Newman, but the main characters are so unlikeable.
Golden Girls- Good acting, showed senior citizens in a postive way, but couldn't make me laugh.
