I really like those guys. I only barely gave them attention in the past. But the more I learned about them, the more I appreciated them. They really do get a bad rap.
Most are only familiar with their 60s "fun-in-the-sun"/ surfer hits like, "Surfin USA" & "California Girls".
But I'd highly recommend hearing their work from the 70's. It's never on the radio. If not for the familiar harmonies, you'd probably think it was a different band. The music matured & lyrically, it was somewhat darker.

Sunflower & Surfs Up are two 70s lost gems, as is Holland.
Basically, the stuff from about 1967 to about '73 is great lesser known work.

I like them up through the '70s, but nothing can top the Brian Wilson era. I absolutely resent them for doing "Kokomo" in 1988, simply because it was pure schlock.

"Pet Sounds" is a must-have for every record collection, though.

Kokomo and Surfin' Safari are their best songs, IMO.

I love The Beach Boys I have their boxed set. I wish they were all alive so I could go to a concert it's not really worth it now, I'd probably go to a Brian Wilson concert though.

Actually,I will credit the Beach Boys in one instance and that's when they sang back-up for Chicago,in the 70's on their song "Wishing you were here" I love Chicago and I love that song and I must say the Beach Boys did a great job on back-up vocals. :)

I like them. Especially "surf" and "car" songs.

My favorites of theirs:

#1. Don't Worry, Baby (1964)
#2. Surfin' Sufari (1962)
#3. Shut Down (1963)
#4. Catch A Wave (1963?)
#5. Surfin' U.S.A. (1963)

Actually, The Beach Boys did a cover of "California Dreamin'" in the '80s.
