I went to a orientation for a job at Walmart yesterday & i wanna quit already LOL. I got hired, i'm supposed to start work tonight. There are 2 things i don't like about the job already. We get paid every 2 weeks is one thing & the other thing is we gotta take a computer test everyday that the employees work. U gotta get a 80% or better on the test. This really sucks. We can't even take the computer test during our lunch break. We gotta take it when our supervisor allows us to. I guess i'll be looking for a new job LOL. I thought Walmart was gonna be like Target cause i used to work at Target & Target was real cool. The employees i worked with were mad cool & i had fun when i was there. The supervisors were kinda cool. It was so many girls at Target when i worked there. I really would like a 9 to 5 job cause i'm tired of these 2nd shift jobs. Ya'll know how retail & grocery stores are if you've ever worked at one before. They always give u flexible hours, they never give u a set shift. I like to watch tv a lot especially the basketball games so if i'm working 2nd shift, i miss all the games & my tv shows. I'm thinking about going back to school & that's what i think i'm gonna do cause i need a career. I wanna get in the entertainment industry doing something. I don't care what it is as long as i meet some celebrities.

i love wal*mart, but i wouldn't want to work there.

I work as a bagger at Kroger. My hours are for the most part 9 to 5. Except when the head bagger is off, then I work 7 to 3. I've been the for a little over 2 years now. For a job it's good. I like the people I work with. The only thing is, I am 21 and no plans of moving up in the company. So maybe I should consider getting a different job. One where age is no shame. No offense to anyone who is, but I don't want to be older than 25 and still a bagger.

I've heard some horror stories about working at Wal-Mart. That would be my last pick for a place to work.

I have no idea what I'll do when I graduate, but I sure as hell am not taking a university degree and working at the Wal-Mart here. Or anywhere.

I woek as a supermarket cashier. I think all the regulars here know how I feel about my job.

Well I can't believe I"m actually going to stick up for Wal*Mart but I need to clarify a few things.

I worked at Wal*Mart for 8 years. I worked in every aspect of that store EXCEPT high management (CSM, Cashier, Department Manager, etc).

You do NOT have to take a computer test every single day you work. There are certain tests, they are training tests, that every ASSOCIATE has to take and it's completely based on the job title you hold. Once you take the CBL (Computer Based Learning) then you are done and don't have to take them again unless they download more for that job. The 80% is easy and if you can't manage that you should be in grade school. It's like taking an open book test. I liked taking the CBL tests becuase it got me off the floor. Why would you want to take a work based test/training on LUNCH time???? You get paid to take the dang thing, geez.

As for the every two week pay day, you will be hard pressed to find many jobs now a days that pay weekly. MANY jobs are converting to paying once a month. It costs the company more money to produce paychecks weekly, paper waste, etc. I have not worked a job in 15 years that I wasn't paid either monthy or twice a month. You learn how to budget your paycheck.

I'm wondering how old you might be? Working isn't supposed to be about having "mad fun" and working with "cool" people. You work to pay your bills man. I personally now have a very excellent job that I LOVE but that comes from spending 8 long years at Walmart and hating it at the end. But in this economy you should just be happy that you have a job and one that offers decent pay, benefits, etc. There just aren't that many jobs that are "mad fun" to be at. I have one now but it took me 15 years to get there.

I have been working at my first job for nearly 3 years now... I have been working at Ingles for a year and a half.. yea, i would give aNYTHING to quit ingles, cause i ahte it, but i can't, i have to have both jobs in order to make ends meat... so yea, it sucks.. but when I get that check and am able to keep my apartment, i tend not to bitch as much

You should be glad you're working. Like these people said, you need to pay bills. I am working at my second job at a fitness center. Getting a second job was TOUGH for me. I thought I was going to get another job right after I finished working at my school. You know what happened? I applied at three different places, Henry's Marketplace, Blockbuster Video, and Vons but I was rejected all three times without an interview. The reason I have my current job is because I happen to have a teacher at my school who works out there every morning before school starts. It's better to work than to sit at home doing nothing. Even watching TV all day can get boring after a while.:crazy:

I agree. Its one thing to work there (or another job like that) when you're 35 because you have to, and its another thing to work there because you dont have any goals and are just too lazy. Im 19 and have worked @ Shaws for a year and a half now, and will be starting school soon. Ever since I graduated, Ive feel as if I need to get a "better" job, but why? Why go through the hassle of searching (in which Id be getting nadas for searching) when I can continue to stay here until I graduate Empire and they place me in a salon. If I had decided never to go to school (I had no desire to go back to school- still no desire to go to a 2-4 year college, and never plan on it), I wouldnt want to be working @ Shaws for the rest of my life. I mean, like I said its a nice place to work when you're in school or are retired and just want some extra $$, but why settle on that when I have so many opportunities ahead of me?

I agree on that too. If you NEED to pay the bills, then you should settle with any respectable job. But, if you know you can do better, then go for it. Its one thing to have a job to have extra money, its another thing to be working just to buy next weeks groceries. I work for extra cash so I can go places- I have no expenses. But I know, that if I did, Id either be working @ someplace different, or be putting in a LOT more hours.

I just found out last night that we only have to take the CBL computer test 8 times & then after that, we're done with it. I thought we had to take it everyday. I hear what ya'll saying but i'm still gonna look for another job cause i wanna work in the daytime & i'm used to getting paid every week. It does seem like most jobs pay every 2 weeks now but there are a lot who do pay every week. I wish all jobs would pay people every week, that way everybody would be happy cause i know people who do get paid every 2 weeks & they hate that.

Well, that's not the title. I just meant he is the highest in seniority. I'm second and so when he leaves, I'll be number 1. Which is not something I'm looking forward to, since I don't like to go to work at 7:00am.

I love jobs that start early like 7am in the morning. That's the kinda job i want. I'm a early person anyway but i'm not a person who sleeps during the day. That's why i don't like my job at Walmart cause i work overnight.

Walmart is one of the worst if not THE worst places to work, I worked there in 2000 for 3 months and it literally made me sick. The stress caused me to have bad panic attacks and every day I'd have to go in early because I'd get sick to my stomach I'd go in early so I could get it out of my system and calm down and I had to go on Paxil. The last day I was there I had such a bad panic attack I was in tears and dropping everything, I called my cousin and asked her to come get me and make an excuse to get me out of there and I walked out and never went back to work. I eventually had to go back to get something that I had put on layaway and I couldn't even sign my name on the paper my hand was shaking so badly. I won't even shop there now. The CSMs are such liars and will do anything to cover their asses, one of them sent me on an hour long break (they sometimes do that if the store isn't too busy) My cousin was working there at the time too and was sent on an hour along with me and she was standing right there when the witch said it. So we went to The 99 for lunch and came back exactly an hour later and everyone was telling me how much trouble I was in. I got yelled at by the main CSM and she threatened to write me up and I told her that the other CSM told me to go on an hour so she said she'd look into it, I went back to work the next day and the witch who told me to go on that break denied everything! They made my life hell the whole 3 months I was there. Whoever said that we should be lucky we have jobs is wrong NOBODY should be subjected to that ever. Jobs may not be about having fun but you should at least be comfortable enough to come in everyday and do your job without having to put up with BS. I've been working at PharMerica now for almost 2 years while it might not be the best paying job I feel comfortable there and I work with a bunch of really nice people and I don't have to worry about it making me sick.
