Mickey 03-13-2003, 06:46 AM Um... Won what?
Ricardos4ever 03-13-2003, 08:23 AM Best Food Fight (for the chocolate factor episode). There was no doubt that she would win over the others. Though I wasn't surprised when Vivian Vance didn't win for Second Banana. The best part of the show overall was the very beginning when everybody sang the different theme songs. I thought it would have been cool if Lucie and Desi Jr. were there to sing the lyrics of the ILL theme and pick up the award for their mother, but oh well.
SPLAIN 03-13-2003, 10:45 AM Exactly why i'm upset, couldn't SOMEONE, anyone, bother to show up to pick up the award, the cast of Different Strokes was there to PRESENT it, not accept it, but when they saw nobody was there, they had to. I agree, the opening was the best part, of yet another awards show, just what the world needed, it was nice seing some of those old faces though for the memories they brought back. And some of the OLD faces still looked great like Barbara Eden and Barbara Feldon, they sort of made up for Bea Arthur and Don Adams and Rose Marie, then again, at least they're still around, and we love them regardless, it's just that when you grew up with these people and care so much for them, it's hard to see them having trouble even walking to the stage.
Leigh Ann 03-13-2003, 11:34 AM I saw it last night. I'm glad they won Best Food Fight. I think I voted for it to win, too!! And, I loved the fashion thing.
Ricardos4ever 03-13-2003, 01:15 PM I actually didn't like the fashion thing. I thought it was kind of stupid, and that they should have paid tribute to another aspect of ILL instead of using it for a fashion segment.
SPLAIN 03-13-2003, 02:15 PM I totally agree with that, it was very LAME, then again, we have to settle for anything they give us, don't we? Did you see the audience reaction? A riot, it was not!
Ricardos4ever 03-13-2003, 05:55 PM I thought that the show as a whole was kind of lame...why give awards for classic television, anyway? If they wanted to honor classic shows, they should have done something like a documentary. They could have a segment about, say, "All in the Family" being the most innovative and then have the stars sit down and reflect on it. But instead they had to turn it into a cutesie thing where they give out dumb awards like best food fight (MTV Movie Awards, anyone?) and have the stars come up and accept the award like its really something special. Who cares who the best working class character really is? Rob Reiner sure didn't care about the award he got. All he did was use the 45 second speech time they gave him and Sally Struthers to rant about an unrelated topic. Sure, it was nice to see these television stars, but they could have found a better format for doing it. The awards show thing has been done over and over and over again and is getting tiring. I love classic television, but most of these stars had their own award shows thirty years ago (or whenever they were popular) and creating one again just to get them together in a room was just, as you said before, LAME.
Barnabas1 03-13-2003, 08:43 PM I wish Lucy would've still been here to see the award she won! :(
*ShortCake* 03-13-2003, 09:38 PM sure the award show had its ups and downs..but every award show does! I didnt like the whole Rob Reiner speech he did though. It was inappropriate. I never really liked him anyways. I wish also that Lucie and Desi picked up their mothers award.. they are always doing other things for her supposedly so why not do this ya know? I didnt like the dancers but he y-- like i said.. it was their first awards show and they were experimenting!
Barnabas1 03-14-2003, 09:55 AM I do think Doris Singleton could've accepted for her. How old is she now anyway?
SPLAIN 03-14-2003, 12:11 PM Come on guys, Reiner played a pacifist and used his little speech as a joke, didn't he end it OK, doint that thing with his lips negating everything he had just said, besides, he and Sally are all that's left of that show, i think Jean was ill, and Reiner's a big director, he didn't have to go there, i thought it was nice that he and his former wife Penny Marshall went, recognizing their roots.
*ShortCake* 03-14-2003, 10:08 PM yeah claude i guess you're right!! Im sorry, i am really happy that geveryone showed up though!! I loved the whole Jeanie skit Barbara Eden did it was cute, sally struthers(sp?) changed alot though!! wow. And I loved Barbara Feldons speech it was sweet!

Me too! As a fan, it was eerie to see no one accept the award for her. Her children or writers, even one of her FANS should have picked the award up and say a couple of good things about Lucy.

My least-favorite part of the show was the All in the Family tribute. It was terrible because as viewers we already know how the show changed the face of television and by rehashing it all over again just got annoying. Come on, is that like the only important thing about the show? I believe not. At times I think AITF is the most overrated show of all-time.
SPLAIN 03-17-2003, 10:50 AM They wanted to appear CLASSY, so they showed a tribute to a show that the Tv Academy just worships, i never liked it then and i don't like it now, the only thing funny about it to me was Edith and i liked the sentimentality of some scenes, and Caroll was great as Archie, the role of his career.
