So what does everybody think of the awards so far? They've been okay so far. It's really nice having a show dedicated towards classic tv. I hope this becomes an every year deal. It's cool to see all these classic stars again, but it's kind of depressing too. I could've cried when I saw James Doohan. I hate to spoil the mood, so I'll shut up.

I thought Laverne and Shirley on Happy Days was going to win the great crossover award. I guess I was wrong.

It was a great show. I was disappointed that we did not see Betty White. If there is something about Bea not wanting to be on the same stage as Betty, then I say get off your high horse. I loved how MTM told RoseMarie to shut up when Rose Marie said that they would do Carl Reiner's revival for nothing. LOL.

:lol: That was hilarious. I got a kick out of seeing that skit. :lol: Even my father thought it was funny.

Oh yeah, forgot to add something. If they do decide to do this every year, keep John Ritter. I thought he did a very good job hosting. He didn't spend 25 minutes at the beginning of the show, cracking jokes. I hate watching award shows for that reason. The host always has to drag it around and tell jokes. If I wanted jokes, I'd read a joke book. I'm here to see awards. Anyway, I'm happy that Ritter didn't drag it around. He made an excellent host.

I think the show had its high points, but in all honesty, I was sort of bored.
The show will most likely improve every year. It seemed choppy, confusing and uneven. It didn't have the smooth, polished look of the established awards shows.

Yeah, I still stand by my okay opinion. Like I said before, it was cool seeing a show dedicated towards classic shows and you have a lot of classic stars together. That was one of the high points. The other high point being that Arnold Jackson skit. The actual award category wins were okay. The only awards I actually cared about was the one where Don Knotts won, All in the Family's award and Star Trek's award. I don't think any of my other favorites won anything. It was just those 3.

John gets a B+ for hosting skills.

funny i didn't notice how makeup he wore :lol:. i would give him a A+! he did a great job.he was funny and just did very well.

I loved it!! They could do away with the dancers though. LOL I agree about Mary Tyler Moore telling Rose Marie to Shut up about doing it for free!! LOL Funny!!! I also liked John Ritter too. As well as Halle Berry!! I thought that was awesome that she presented :D.

Actually, I hope they keep the same dancers next year--- they kept me interested during the boring parts. But, overall the show was pretty good, and John Ritter did an excellent job.

There were some few scenes that stood out:
1. "Dick Van Dyke Show" cast acceptance speech.
2. ALF's comment about John "Bitter." LOL.
3. Introduction
4. Bob Reiner's comments about the war, and the specific way he tied it in with "All In The Family."

Sure, the awards show wasn't as "polished" as other awards shows, but what do you all expect? It was a new show, the very first one, these people haven't been to an awards show in years. I thought it was fun night, but the extra half hour was unecessary. It dragged out too long, imo. The dancers really weren't necessary either, they were good, but at times pointless. It was also nice not to see the people rushed to finish their acceptance speeches. I thought it was a little rude, though, to bring Erin Murphy and the guy who played Adam on Bewitched out for like 2 seconds and send them back. What was up with that? Barbara Billingsley look great. Too bad she didn't do much. The Pre-Show was kinda lousy too, hardly any real interviews and they all look uncomfortable, lol.

Parts I did enjoy:
1) Dick Van Dyke cast acceptance speech
2) Mary Tyler Moore telling Rose Marie to shut up when Rose agreed to do the Carl Reiner DVD revival for free
3) Just seeing Classic TV be acknowledged. That was wonderful.
4) Seeing all the classic tv stars. Now, you all have to admit, that was the highlight of the show
5) The theme song rendetions at the beginning. An interesting, but fun, way to start the awards
6) John Ritter did great as an awards show host. Hopefully, they bring him back next year.
7) Alf was great. Mama was great. Living w/Arnold Jackson seemed to drag on and on, but It was pretty funny.

I really did enjoy the awards show, and I truly think you guys are making a little too much of a big deal out of them. Next year will probably be even better. But the show did have it's high points, right?

oh, GoldenFamilyTies, you never did explain why you weren't that happy with the awards show?

And ThomasE, I agree with you about Betty and Bea. And Solomon, I never even noticed that about John Ritter. LOL. Very interesting.

I thoroughly enjoyed the awards show.

It was so good to see some of the people that I hadn't seen in ages. I liked Davy Jones & Maureen McKormick + the whole Brady bunch. I enjoyed My 3 sons, I loved Arnold Jackson. He was a riot. :lol: John Ritter did a fantastic job. Just like Jenny said (He didn't go overboard with the jokes). I even enjoyed the dancers.

I was so surprised at how some of the people aged. You could tell who had plastic surgery & who didn't.

I agree with Mary T Moore. "SHUT UP" Rose Marie (Are you CA RA ZEE)???.

OK, here are some things that struck me about the show last night...

1. No more Martin Mull and Kathy Najimy pre-show. No offense to them, but get more action shots, less chit-chat, and SHOW THE PEOPLE! I don't need to hear Keith Partridge for minutes on end.

2. Maureen, Maureen, Maureen -- what was up with that black eye make-up. And her singing voice is gone. That's sad.

3. The dancers were somewhat cool, but totally not together. They needed some more practice.

4. If you take the time to bring the original Gilligan singers, Sonny Curtis (MTM), and the lady who sang the L&S theme, GIVE THEM SOME CAMERA TIME! I didn't need to see the dancers legs during that time.

5. Sally Struthers should have been allowed to talk more.

6. Rose Marie is in bad shape. I felt bad for her.

7. MTM should have kept her jacket on. Her arms were... WOooo...

8. The intro was an AWESOME concept... it just needed tweaked a bit.

9. John Ritter was ok, but there is SOMEONE out there better. (Sorry Pav, I know you like him).

10. Was it just me, or did it feel like the "big" stars were "blessing" the TV people with their presence? I just got the impression that they didn't want to be there, but were... like I said, maybe it was just me.

11. ENOUGH "NOBODY KNOWS IT BUT ME" CHEVY TAHOE COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!

12. I wish they had NOT announced the winners before the show. It would be nice for those people to get a little shock to see that they had won.

13. Which cameraman had Lt. Uhura (sp), from Star Trek, made out with before the show? She was on every few minutes it seemed like.

14. There were a LOT of faces in the audience I didn't recognize. I wonder if they were the crews on the shows or something else.

15. Lastly, who was the girl with the pink hair?!?!? That was WRONG!

I also don't think that everyone posting opinions are making a 'big deal' out of anything. This is a message board, and we're sharing our thoughts opinions on the show.

For their first award show it wasn't that bad. A few things could have been changed here and there, but all in all, I give them credit for trying an award show, I thought it was a creative idea, and I could see them do it next year. As you already said, I think the dancers/models was unnecessary, they didn't really have any meaning to the show. I thought that John Ritter worked as a great host, and as some of you had mentioned, he was very entertaining and amusing, and at times he went to far, not to mention some of his jokes. I definitely think he should be next year’s host. Other than that, one of the parts I thought was useless, it when they were talking about models/designers and they were modeling the dresses from the show I Love Lucy "Lucy Gets a Paris Gown", where models were they were "showing-off" odd dresses, that were made of burlap etc.

Parts in which I liked:

1. Acceptance speech for The Dick Van Dyke Show and Julia.
2. "Living With Gary Coleman" and pie-fight with the cast members.
3. When Mary Tyler Moore asked Rose Marie to "shut-up".
4. Barbara Eden having a twin, when she accepted her award for Favorite Dual Role Characters".
5. Young fans, interoperating the "Superest Super Hero"
6. ALF calling the host John "Bitter". And Mama's appearance.
7. Theme Songs being sung at the beginning of the award show.

I only saw bits and pieces.... But I thought John Ritter was an excellent host, and that the theme songs in the beginning were great. Were there any Three's Company things though?

I think John Ritter was a good host. I've always liked him. I'm surprised that Three's Company wasn't featured or given a nomination. A clip from the show would've been nice considering John was the host.
Sorry to say, but I knew Sally Struthers gained weight, but I hadn't seen her in years and was taken back by her appearance.
Mary Tyler Moore looked great.
Bea Arthur didn't look too good to me. It seems she may have eye trouble or something.
I think Archie Bunker should have been nominated for the Working Stiff Award.
The dancers were good for the opening number, but were overused after that.
I found it interesting that David Cassidy paid tribute to his father Jack and said he had great taste in wives, especially Shirley Jones. That was nice, but what about his own mother? I don't know if she's still alive, but I know he's been close with her. He mentioned his father and his stepmother. That struck me as strange whether his real mother is alive or dead.
It may have been nice if they had an 'In Memorium' segment as most award shows do....a small tribute to the TV actors that have passed away over the last year or so.
I know they couldn't include every show, but I was hoping for something with Barney Miller. Oh well.
As I said, if this becomes an annual show, it will improve. I can only imagine what the first Oscar and Emmy shows looked like.
Overall, I give the show a C+.

A nomination was given to the cast of Three's Company Richard Kline as Larry Dallas was given a nomination for for "Hippest Fashion Plate, Male", Richard, John and Joyce were in the clip. The Thee's Company theme song was also played when John Ritter first appeared as host.

Next year, it would be good if the TV Land Award could include more categories. Instead of Bruce Vilanche's fashion show, they could present the Unsung Hero Award. Of course, this year's winner was SCTV. So it was disappointing that the award was not presented. But I guess there was no one there to accept it.

Overall, I liked them. However, I wished they had included more catagories from the online voting. It seemed that they only got around to 2 awards each half hour. Way too many commercials, imo. I did like some of the parts in between. It was great to see some of the old classic TV stars, though some of them didn't look their best due to their age.

No big speaches from me on this one, lol. That's the good news.

Didn't notice John's makeup.

Loved the skit 'Living With Arnold Jackson'.
Rob Riener was pretty tricky the way he got his licks in.

Dick Van Dyke can still deliver a good speach.
Agent 99 is lookin' good, as is Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.
'My Thee Sons' were fun to see. They're good guys through and through.
Conrad Baines seemed relaxed and in good spirits. His remaining TV kids looked good also. Too bad Dana couldn't have been there. She would have lit the room!

I wasn't bothered by the show lacking polish. I wouldn't expect it to be much more polished if they run an annual. Most of the people who are being honored and are doing the entertaining are no longer full time entertainers. They aren't going to put all that much work into their skits or whatever they're called on to do. I liked the casual, not so overproduced feel of the show.

Things I didn't like or noticed
Some of the category winners had to be alive or in the audience to accept. I'm glad Don KNotts won but Who else was there to take the award. I prefer Ethel Merzt to win but Viv Vance is not alive. Also Barbara Eden and Barbara Feldon took awards for they were there. I wished they had shown more people from the past. A quick glance at Marc Copage and the children from Bewitched were not long enough. I don't think Golden Girls is classified as classic yet. I wish they had stuck to 50's 60's and 70's shows. I did think Rob Reiner had lost weight, he looked a lot thinnner. THe Arnold Jackson story went a little long. I would like to see a group of past stars shown like they did on one academy award show they did years ago
OH and finallly those James Garner ads. I thought he might appear for he was in Maverick a show of the 1950's

Parts in which I liked:

1. The introduction with the theme songs of various shows being sung.
2. The Acceptance speech for The Dick Van Dyke Show and Julia.

7. The Awards Show. Seeing an award show dedicated to primarily classic tv is great.

9. Last but surely not least . . . John Ritter as the host. He did an excellent job hosting. Whenever the show got depressing, John was always there to cheer me up!

Parts that I found disappointing:
1. No one to pick up the award that Lucy won for the best food fight. Yes, the cast of "Diff'rent Stokes" decided to take the award in her name but it would have been better to see either Lucie Arnaz or Desi Arnaz, Jr. pick the award up for their mother and say like a few good things about her.
2. To see Lucille Ball hardly get any recognition for the contributions she made in the tv industry. It seemed that Lucille Ball was being overlooked in the awards show.
3. The Cast Cross-Over Award. Laverne & Shirley on Happy Days should have won the award.
4. The Lucy Show not getting the recognition it deserved.
5. The All in the Family tribute. Hearing the same stuff over and over again gets old and tiring fast.
6. The Awards. The Awards were mostly being given to actors who were alive. It was very ironic I thought.

Nothing I voted for won. The "Working Stiff", I voted for Ralph Kramden. And Laverne & Shirley won. Now don't get me wrong, L&S were great, but when I think of a working stiff in television, I think of Ralph Kramden. The second banana, I voted for Art Carney, but I like Don Knotts, so I wasn't upset that he won.

When the Three Sons came out, it was Robbie, Chip and Ernie. Although they are the more famous trio, I would have loved to see Mike (Tim Considine) instead of (or with) Ernie.

The one I don't understand is how Jeanie could win for the double role category. I was sure Bewitched or The Brady Bunch was gonna win that one. I don't even remember Jeanie having a sister. I do remember Samantha's double and even Peter's look alike.

As for the Future Classic Award, I've never seen American Dreams, and I don't plan on watching it. I think it should have gone to either "8 Simple Rules" or "Less Than Perfect." Of course, last season I would have said "Andy Richter Controls the Universe." (Just wanted to mention that show again:) )

Does anybody agree with anything I've just said?
