DESI ARNAZ, JR. HEADLINES "LUCILLE BALL'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION" AUGUST 4 IN JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK
Desi Arnaz, Jr., and his fellow band members Ricci Martin and Billy Hinsche, will speak and perform at the Reg Lenna Civic in Jamestown on Saturday, August 4, in conjunction with the Lucy-Desi Museum's Lucy's Birthday Celebration Weekend.
This is Arnaz's first visit to the hometown of his mother, Lucille Ball. Desi and his partners, Ricci and Billy, will offer an unstructured, casual "unplugged" evening of songs and interesting anecdotes as they reflect on their music careers and share stories about the music.
For tickets to this event (and all other events scheduled during "Lucille Ball's Birthday Celebration") call 716-484-7070 or visit the Museum website at www.lucy-desi.com. (http://www.lucy-desi.com.)
Ricci Martin, Desi Arnaz, Jr., and Billy Hinsche are old friends, having grown up together in Beverly Hills, California. Their common bond is the music they make. Ricci, Desi & Billy is their newly formed musical group featuring original material as well as the songs of the 60's musical teen sensation Dino, Desi & Bill, of which Desi and Billy were founding members. Ricci is Dino's younger brother. Though this is a new configuration of the original band, the last names remain the same -- Martin, Arnaz and Hinsche.
The idea for this group came at a benefit for the late Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys in Los Angeles in October, 1998. Desi and Billy performed a song which Desi had written called "My Old Friend" in honor of their friend and partner Dean Paul Martin (Dino) who died in a plane crash while flying for the California National Guard in 1987. Ricci performed his big single, "Stop, Look Around" from his critically acclaimed album "Beached," co-produced by Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche. There was such a powerful, magical feeling that night, that Ricci, Desi and Billy decided to form a trio.
After extensive rehearsals at Desi's newly acquired Boulder Theatre (Boulder City, Nevada), Ricci, Desi and Billy performed their first show at the 1999 Calamigos event in Malibu, California to benefit The Carl Wilson Foundation. "Live in Vegas!" is their exciting debut CD which was recorded on November 29, 1999, during their last performance at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are in the process of recording a CD which will be entitled "My Old Friend, Now and Then" which will feature 10 new original songs from all three artists as well as five previously unreleased songs from the Dino, Desi and Billy tape archives.
Arnaz has starred in many television shows, plays and movies, including "The Mambo Kings," in which he portrayed his father, Desi Arnaz. He and his wife, Amy, own and operate the non-profit Boulder City Ballet Company which stages a variety of musical and community productions. He plays percussion, drums and is vocalist for Ricci, Desi & Billy.
Ricci Martin is Dean Martin's youngest son who has recorded as a solo artist for Epic Records, starred with Lisa Hartman in the movie "Tell Me You Love Me," been a television vee-jay and is a successful record producer. Ricci is also the owner of the River Ranch Recording Studio in Kamas, Utah. He is the piano player and vocalist for Ricci, Desi & Billy.
Billy Hinsche was a member of the Beach Boys band. He is currently performing as the Musical Director for Al Jardine's Family & Friends. He plays keyboard, rhythm guitar and does vocals for Ricci, Desi & Billy.
