and thanks for sharing that picture...hubba hubba! What a smile! He just melts your heart. :loveya:
I can hardly wait to see the movie and when i think of all the new things to talk about after we have seen it It will be great!
Luckymama58 03-28-2003, 12:16 PM  Well ladies, I finally got my copy from our generous friend and watched it right away. OMG I am in heaven! :D:D:D:D
I know the critics panned this movie, but I actually thought that it had a great plot. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering if they were going to pull it off or not. And it has a great surprise ending.
I know I am a bit predjudiced, but our Freddie was Dynamite in it too. He had such potential as an actor. It got me thinking about all the movies he could have made. And he was BUFF:eyes: too. There is one scene with no shirt that ... well... lets just say I will need a carpet cleaner to get all the drool off the rug! LOL
It was WELL worth the wait!
Thanks for the review now i will definately be running to my mailbox! My mom could tell you I do that already as i wait for my ebay treasures but this will be a real Treasure!!!
Cheryl Harrell 03-28-2003, 05:39 PM I need to get my butt in gear & order this one! I know I'll be drooling... :)
Luckymama58 04-04-2003, 09:31 PM I am just curious, has anyone else gotten the movie yet? I am dying to discuss it with everyone, but I know I can't before you see it because I don't want to spoil it for everyone. It does have a surprise ending. But I remember when we used to watch the shows and talk about them and drool over Freddie's finer attributes and believe me, there is plenty in this movie to drool about!
Cheryl Harrell 04-04-2003, 11:11 PM I just mailed in my order for it yesterday. I can't wait to see it! My hubby Mike said he saw it with his dad back in the 70's & they were curious to see how Chico was in another role. He said it was a pretty good movie. :) I don't know if I saw it or not & won't until I see it. If our mail is slow-- grrr... LOL! Don't be afraid to spoil the ending. I am dying to know how it comes out. :) Does he die in this movie or any sad scenes? Need to know in advance thanks folks! So I don't get caught by surprise & have to stop the vcr to get a hanky cuz I didn't know to have one in advance. Which happened with the E TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY the first time I saw it. I learned after that to have the hankies ready whenever I watched it again...
Karen64 04-04-2003, 11:13 PM I can't wait to recieve my copy!!!:eyes:
Luckymama58 04-05-2003, 10:14 AM No, Cheryl, he doesn't die, but there is plenty of suspense in this movie regarding whether or not they will pull off the heist. I think I enjoyed the movie more not knowing what would happen, that is why I don't want to spoil it. Hope your copies arrive soon ladies. I will warn you, due to unforeseen circumstances, the first few minutes of the movie was cut. She told me she set the timer late at night to tape this, and my hubby has done that too. With local stations, sometimes they change the times on their late night programing and it screws up the taping. Grrr. This was not the sellers fault tho, so I can be understanding about it. Actually if you listen to the dialogue, you can pretty much figure out what happened in the missing parts of the beginning. Maybe someday some channnel, like AMC, will run it again and we can get the whole thing. At least this is better than not having it at all. It was about 2 hours with the commercials anyway, so I don't think we missed more than about 15 minutes in the beginning, by my reckoning.
Cheryl Harrell 04-05-2003, 03:44 PM Thanks for the info! I know it's not her fault on the first 15 minutes being missing. Does anyone know what happened in the first 15 minutes & where I can get the first 15 minutes. LOL! I'm glad he doesn't die. It sounds like a good movie & I can't wait to see it! :)
Prince 04-05-2003, 05:48 PM Hi,
Just wanted to tell you that the movie arrived in my mailbox the other day and OMG...you will all die when you watch this. I agree with everything that Lucky has said about our Freddie's performance. Great acting on Freddie's part. He just proved that he could play any type of role..and certainly had leading man qualities...great butt shots too. He is to die for to say the least. Like Lucky, since I have watched the movie...he has been in my thoughts so much. I can't help but wonder what kind of a career Freddie would have had...he was sooooooooooo talented.
I also received two Tony Orlando shows that Freddie was on and OMG....can he sing or what?? I always wondered...but no more. He blew Tony Orlando right out of the water. I thought of Mariposa when I heard him and how she will be blown away because she has always thought his voice was beautiful...and Mariposi....you will right on girl. BTW he sang "I've Got The Music In Me" and ...he put the music in me. He had great dance moves too. He was very funny in the skits with Tony and was oh so handsome. He made me proud!!
That's my review....so there!!! LOL
Signed,
An unbiased fan
Macca
MariposaLKB 04-05-2003, 06:04 PM You gonna share those Tony Orlando tapes? Since you knew enough to think of me when you heard Freddie singing on them, you KNOW I want copies!
As for the movie, I agree with Lucky as well. I will put in my two centavos as a writer and say that some of the dialogue was a bit dumb, though--but Freddie was wonderful! He had an intensity not very often seen on CATM, and his walk and his voice were both also rather different. The hips were really moving (hee hee), and the voice was always soft and sexy, even in anger. His looks were even more gorgeous than usual too! The plot was suspenseful and the ending a terrific twist--now if only those girls hadn't been quite so dim LOL!
Prince 04-05-2003, 06:25 PM Hi Mariposa,
Just to let you know...I got the tapes from the same person who shared the movie with us...you may want to contact her. I would copy them for you ...but you will get better quality if she sends them to you.
Of course I would share with you girl!!!
Prince 04-05-2003, 10:26 PM One more thing I forgot to mention....in the movie...Freddie speaks with the softest sexiest voice all the way thru the movie. I noticed it right away...it was awesome. I agree with Lucky again....his voice is so appealing.
Cheryl Harrell 04-06-2003, 03:36 AM Does this mean the lady who is selling the MILLION DOLLAR RIP OFF is also selling a tape of the Tony Orlando shows he was on? How much is she charging? I want one! :)
Trina is unsure who still wants a copy of the movie so if you requeted one and have not sent payment please let her know what you want to do thank you!
scott cokeley 04-08-2003, 06:32 PM I was so happy to get a copy and watch The Million Dollar Rip-off.......OK, so it isn`t academy award stuff, but who cares!! It is a rare gem with Freddie and that makes it a treasure!! Actually, it was pretty good!! Nice to see Freddie in a different role.
Cheryl Harrell 04-09-2003, 05:22 AM I can't wait to get mine. I also want to order the the TONY ORLANDO & DAWN show from her too... :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-10-2003, 05:25 PM I got the MILLION DOLLAR RIP OFF today! YAY! I don't know if I'll get to watch it tonite cuz on Thru nites we always go over to Mikes cousins house & eat dinner with she & her hubby & usually watch videos with them & I dunno if they'll want to watch this. Yikes!
I couldn't wait to see how he looked in this so I had to forward thru it without really watching & glimpse at some parts of it. Or I would've died of suspense. Can ya see the news headlines on that? LOL!
From what little I saw it looks like he dresses really nice in it (nothing ugly) & his butt shows up good in this one & he has such pretty eyes! Oh my! :)
At the beginning he has on a disguise with different colored hair & mustache etc. It doesn't look so hot on him & takes away from his cuteness but he has such pretty eyes that that's what you notice! Those eyes! Ahhh... :) He takes the wig off & theres a bald skullcap LOL! He looks like Kojack for a sec before taking the makeup off & becoming him again.
He doesn't talk or act Puertorican or Hispanic either & his name is a normal Muff Kovak. He acts more like a New Yorker in his accent. He looks fine in turtlenecks! & Wait till ya see him shirtless! You will want to just hug him! & he kissed a lucky girl.
It has all this neat 70's stuff that they had when I was in high school! The movie likes a bit familiar so I wonder if maybe I did see it back then but forgot about it or didn't pay much attention.
Oh yeah, the guy who used to play Police Chief Burt Ramsey in General Hospital (& I think he used to be on McHales Navy too) is in this. I forget his real name as he's been off of GH for quite along time now.
Also this appears to have been taped off of WCAU tv in Philly which must mean it was on other channels besides WGN in Chicago. I wonder how many channels re-runed it & which ones & is it still in Syndication? This has the commercials in it which I don't mind as they advertise Philly stuff. Judging by the ads for re-runs of the Cosby show & other ads I'd guestimate this to have been shown sometime in the 80's.
But it is worth getting to see his FINE FINE Self in it! I can't wait to see it! :) :) :) I am in love. :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-11-2003, 07:48 AM I didn't get to see the MILLION DOLLAR RIP-OFF last nite due to being at Mikes cousins. :( Maybe I'll get to see it tonite! :) I did fast forward thru it & stop it to take pics off of it with my digital camera.
Wait'll you see him with his make up & disguises! When he first takes of his disguise & make up I noticed after the takes the make up off he wipes out his eyes with a hankerchief like he's trying to make sure all the makeups wiped off.
I noticed there one part where some guy wants Freddie continue his heist rip-off or if he doesn't he guy will hurt him. After the huy leaves. Freddie punches his fist hard thru a table (That must've really hurt) & then hug one of the girls & looks like he's crying as he hugs her.
In another scene one of the girls is pretending to cry over a dead Uncle. Probably part of the heist or con. She reaches in her purse & gets out a disposable paper hankerchief. It tears into & one of the other girls hands her a fresh hankerchief. She later goes back to using the torn one. Freddie looked like he was looking at her weird for using a torn disposable hankerchief instead of one that was in good shape.
In another part it looks like his girlfriend has betrayed him & he looks so hurt. He looks like he's tearing up & trying to choke back the urge to start bawling or something. I could sense that was so real. I can't help but wonder if maybe he felt betrayed by folks already then????
Onward with the pics! :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-11-2003, 07:56 AM Don't you love those eyes???? :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-11-2003, 07:58 AM This movie really shows off his cute eyes! :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-11-2003, 08:03 AM And it shows how good he looks in a turtleneck! :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-11-2003, 08:06 AM I think it'd be neat to read a fan fiction based on this movie with Freddie as his Muff Kovak character & all the girls in it. Sounds like something Luckymama would write. :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-11-2003, 08:09 AM It looks like this movie showed off his cute laugh! :)
Cheryl Harrell 04-11-2003, 08:13 AM It showed off his fine sexy shirtless body... But he looked weird dressed in the old man disguises...
Cheryl Harrell 04-12-2003, 04:17 AM I finally saw the movie with my hubby & it was great! Freddie did an excellent job & wa so cute in this except when he wore the old man disguises. Even then his eyes were so pretty. This proved that had he lived, he would've gone on to even greater things. It looks familiar as if I might've seen it before esp at the end when they tell what the charaterx were currently up to...
hue_mee 04-12-2003, 08:38 AM OMG! Cheryl ! Those are great pictures! It's great to see a different side of Freddie in his acting! Thank you!
Cheryl Harrell 04-12-2003, 12:17 PM Thanks! How I took them was I took them off the tv with the vcr running the tape of the movie using my digital camera. I read that if you want to take pics with flash & not have it create a glare you can cover the flash with a hankerchief which is what I did so the flash wouldn't bounce off the tv as bad & create as bad a glare. Feel free folks to use them in making up Freddie pics & wallpapers... :) He is sooo cute in this! :)
I can't believe that movie!! The million dollar rip off was an awesome movie!!!
Freddie's acting ability weas so untapped and his looks OMG he was so sexy and those syern and sexy, serious expressions and the way he walked down the streets awesome!!!!!
I can't thank you enough Trina!!!!!
Cheryl Harrell 04-14-2003, 12:40 PM Amen sister! He was great in that movie! & So cute too! I am so glad I got it! :)
Cheryl the picture of Freddie in the turtle neck on the bottom left hand side is to die for!!!!
his eyes look so pleading almost....so sexy!!!
Cheryl Harrell 04-14-2003, 05:09 PM That boy looked sooo good in a turtleneck! :)
I have to say I loved him shirtless too!!!
Prince 04-15-2003, 12:12 AM Thank you Cheryl for posting such glorious pics of Freddie. He is adorable to say the least. I have to agree with Joy..the pic on the left with him looking up is to die for. OMG he is too sexy for words. He was so awesome in that movie. He had such incredible potential.
Karen64 04-15-2003, 11:40 PM I got my copy and watched it--I think Freddie was great in this!!! So sexy!!! A word that came to mind about his character-- "Cocky"! That voice and the way he spoke was alot different than the Chico character!
The movie had that funky, cheesy 70's music! LOL! It looked like it was a low-budget film, but Freddie definately made it worth seeing! I'm glad I got to see it!
Cheryl Harrell 04-16-2003, 06:02 AM I noticed that he didn't act a bit Latino in the movie. It shows you how good an actor he was. :)
MariposaLKB 04-16-2003, 07:02 AM I don't know if this role was written specifically for Freddie, but even if it was not, it was a great move on the part of the casting director to put him in the lead! With a last name like Kovack, the character was obviously intended to be of Eastern European descent--this gave Freddie a chance to play to the other half of his background, the Hungarian. It may be stereotyping, but people from that part of the world are usually considered to be less emotional, more distant (like Freddie's father?). Freddie had that aura about him all through this movie until the very end, when it was most appropriate to the situation that Muff show his emotions (other than anger, that is--for some reason that seems to always be an acceptable emotion for otherwise unemotional people). At that point, they ran the gamut--another indication of what a great dramatic actor there was inside the comedian!
Re: cocky--OMG yes that is absolutely the word for him in this movie! Even his walk!
Karen64 04-19-2003, 12:22 AM Anyone notice the poster in the living room (the one they found a "bug" underneath in the wall) looked like the exact same one that is always hanging in the apartment in "3's Company"? (The Life Butterfly poster)
I thought of that right away as soon as i saw it!! I like that show too
Prince 04-24-2003, 08:53 PM I was watching the Million Dollor Ripoff again last night...well I should say I was fast forwarding to all of Freddie's parts, and just can't get over how sexy his voice sounded throughout the entire movie. I studied him closely (what a chore!!!) and his timing and acting ability was right on. I think perhaps he could have been a major film star. I'm just so thirlled to have that movie in my possession. Thanks Trinia....we all owe you a great debt of gratitude.
hue_mee 06-05-2003, 07:37 PM I received my copy of MDR. I was able to watch some of it before my husband got home...... FREDDIE IS SO SEXY!OMG!!!!
