View Full Version : The explanation of Fred and Lamont's absence in the Spinoff-Sanford Arms was wrong
TVFactFan 03-08-2003, 09:14 PM I watched the First episode of the spinoff-Sanford Arms and this is how Lamont and Fred's absence was explained.
Esther said Lamont and Fred moved to arizona for fred's health. She said the Arizona heat will be good for Fred's arthritis and the Arizona air will be good for Fred's heart. Here is what made that statement sound stupid. Fred didn't have health problems-LOL So the writers did a poor job in explaining the absence of Fred and Lamont. Which is probably why the show lasted only 4 episodes.
TVJunkie101 03-08-2003, 09:35 PM Yeah, lol, Fred never did have health problems. Sure he CLAIMED he did (arthritis and a heart problem), but it was never proven true. I'm not surprised the series failed, it didn't have that spark any more.

Yeah i just finished watching it. The show had Grady, Esther, and Bubba without Fred and Lamont-LOL. Then this new family moved in the Sanford home and he was a single dad with a daughter and son. Actually the female who played the daughter played Esther's niece on Sanford and Son

LOL; really? I never saw an episode of it. I should be getting an episode of it eventually, in a trade I just did.
I think the first mistake they made was bringing in a new family. As much as I like Grady, Esther and Bubba, they couldn't hold their own in a series. Maybe having Esther, Woody and Daniel move into the Sanford home could have worked, but It was doomed from the beginning, lol.

I don't think that would have worked either. Aunt Esther was the main character-LOL Also remember that woman who was Grady's Lady on Sanford Arms? Well they were a married couple on Sanford Arms.

Chad22 03-09-2003, 01:40 AM Didnt Sanford take place after Sanford Arms? How was it explained that Fred came back? Im a little confused

Yes Sanford was after Sanford Arms, and it was said in Sanford that Lamont was working on the Alaskan pipeline-LOL. And the fat guy who moved in with Fred was working with Lamont on the pipeline and he said that Lamont wanted him to help his dad with the junk business. Sanford was 89% better than Sanford Arms because Redd Foxx was back.

How did they explain Fred Coming Back? Or did they just ignore Sanford Arms ever happened?

At the beginning of the episode the house is changed back to the original sanford house. Then Cal knocks on the door and when Fred answers, Cal says that he was working with Lamont on the Alaskan pipeline and had a gift for Fred from Lamont. Then they became partners. So nothing was said about how Lamont ended up in Alaska from Arizona and how Fred ended back in Watts from Arizona. So yes the Sanford Arms explanation was ignored.

Well maybe since Sanford Arms only lasted 4 episodes, i guess the producers felt they could ignore it. But i really don't consider Sanford I spinoff since Redd Foxx was in the show. It was just another show similar to Sanford and Son. And since it started in 1980, and S&S ended in 77-i don't think we can label Sanford as a spinoff.

I don't think the show Sanford had to explained that because Sanford was a REVAMPED VERSION of SAnford and Son. So it was a new type of Show i a NEW ERA which was the 80's. I liked Sanford better than the ;ast season of Sanford and Son.
