View Full Version : "The Dick Van Dyke Show" vs. "Mary Tyler Moore" LucyFan 03-07-2003, 09:48 PM Which show do you like the most and why? and which one is the better of the two? *InThisMoment* 03-08-2003, 02:10 AM i've watched alot of episodes of DVD but only a few of the mary tyler moore show.buti like DVD the best. TVgen62 03-08-2003, 07:27 AM As I stated on the MTM board, "Don't make me choose." These shows alternately occupy the # 1 and # 2 positions of my Top Ten Favorite Shows (and they are slotted very close to each other). Leigh Ann 03-08-2003, 02:32 PM I can't choose which is the best out of the two either. I've been a fan of both shows all my life. Cactus Jack 03-12-2003, 08:49 AM I like The Dick Van Dyl ea lot better, I love this show, this is one of my top 10 favs:D SawgrassSteve 03-13-2003, 12:24 PM Lucy Fan, I like TDVDS better, hands down. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I love the character "Laura", in her relationship to her husband, son, and friends, over the character "Mary Richards." I know it's fiction; there are no Laura Petries out there, but for what it's worth, she did it like no one else, fiction or not. Steve .:BF:. 03-14-2003, 12:57 PM i like "the dick van dyke show" rather the "the mary tyler moore show" because the dick van dyke show was funny & friendley, i dont mean to be rude but the mary tyler moore show was kinda boring. Stormtracker TF 03-18-2003, 03:40 PM I Like The Dick Van Dyke Show the best. Sitcom Sally 03-20-2003, 09:31 PM ... which I know sounds like a copout. I absolutely love the first few seasons of the MTM show, but when Rhoda left, it wasn't as funny. Rhoda could possibly be the best second banana ever created; she was as deliciously flawed as Mary was perfect, and that gave the right balance to the show. I also never got how every guy Mary met would be entranced by her, yet she remained single On the other hand, I have a great fondness for nostalgia, and I'm partial to B&W shows, so TDVDS is the one I watch most consistently. It's also the one I think has held up best over time. '60s sitcoms were a bubble shut off from the rest of the world, where peacefulness and suburban living prevailed and you could let your imagination plop you in the middle of that era. The '70s? Oh, the colors. I don't get the same feeling of escapism when I watch the MTM show, as I do when watching early Bewitched shows, or DVD. I mainly think, "Boy did we have awful taste," So... it's a very close margin, but DVD wins:) CarJackSnyder 03-24-2003, 08:45 AM i like the Dick Van Dyke show better!!! it is one of my top 10 fav shows!!! |
