View Full Version : The Drivers License Policy in your State
-*Leah*- 03-07-2003, 02:29 PM How old do you have to be to get your premit and drivers licence in your state? In Alabama they are thinking of making our policy something like you get your permit when you are 16, and your drivers licence when you are 18. I sure hope not, I am nearly 15, and if they make this decision soon, I will have to wait 4 more years!:(
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 03-07-2003, 02:34 PM This is how it is in NH:
We do not need a permit. You just have to be 15.5 and driving with an adult over 25 to practice.
You can get your license when you turn 16.
Due to teenagers who are losers and dont know how to friggan drive, if you are under 18 and get your license, there is a 3 month waiting term where you cannot drive w/o an adult over 25. Once your 3 months are up, you can drive freely. Then again, I decided to wait the 2 years and get it when I was 18 so I didnt have to wait. Well, I waited 2 years, but yah..LOl.
dawsongirl 03-07-2003, 06:31 PM When I got mine, it was permit at 14, license at 16. But now I think between 16 and 17, you can't drive alone at night.
fr00ti 03-07-2003, 06:33 PM I live in Alabama and u get your permit when your 15 and youre drivers license when youre 16. I got mine in July:D
Jersey Girl 03-07-2003, 11:30 PM New Jersey laws are irritating. I don't get my license till I'm 18. Actually, I can get a "GDL" at 17, but you can't drive out of state, or between the hours of 11PM and 5AM. Ugh. Permit at 16, but you have to get it validated by driving with a driving school for 6 hours before you even get your permit. It's a long and annoying process, but I guess it causes fewer accidents.. tsk
Mr. Stefani 03-07-2003, 11:32 PM 16 for your permit, 17 for your license.

yeah, but they are thinking of passing a new law, and if they pass it before I get my permit, then I will just be out of luck for a couple more years:( (I live in Alabama too!)

AnaheimPMWitch 03-07-2003, 11:43 PM well here in Oregon You have to be 15 for your permit and at 16 You get a drivers license BUT you are under close supervision cant drive your friends around or be out after dark and stuff and if during this time You're driving record isnt blemished when you are about 18 you get a regular drivers license
Titania 03-08-2003, 12:02 AM in pa we get permit at 16, license at 16 and a half, and you cant drive past 11 until you're 18 ("cinderella license")
~LadyJess~ 03-08-2003, 02:17 AM In Michigan, you can take drivers training at 14 years 9 months. You have your permit and have to have 50 driving hours, 10 at night and then you can take a road test and if you pass you can get your license when you are 16. It is a restricted license, you can't drive between midnight-5 am. When you turn 17, they mail you an unrestricted license and you can drive whenever.
Mossopp 03-08-2003, 09:55 AM In the UK you have to be 17 before you can learn to drive.
*PinkLady* 03-08-2003, 01:00 PM In Ohio, you have to be 15.5 to get your temporary permit, and 16 to get your license.
SBTB Geek 03-08-2003, 01:30 PM In California, you can take a written exam at 15, and if you pass it, you get your permit once you turn 15 1/2. At 16, you can take the driven test, and if passed you will get your license the same day.
If you don't pass any of the two test by the third time, you won't be allowed to receive a license.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 03-08-2003, 03:37 PM Also, if you get a ticket for speeding within your first year, you lose your license for 20 days. Like me..LOl.
laceyinthesky 03-08-2003, 03:40 PM In TX, permit at 15, license at 16.
JDS84 03-08-2003, 08:18 PM You have to be 16 to get your permit then after you get it you have to wait 6 months until you can try for your drivers license.

 And I live two towns away from NH.
In Mass, you get your permit when you're 16, you get your license when you're 16 1/2 but you can't drive with your friends but you can drive alone...I think. And you can drive with your friends with you're 17. I'm not exactly sure though. Somebody from MA clearify this.
