View Full Version : What Do You Currently Think About TVLand?

Just post what you currently think of TVLand, and where it's going, etc. Here's what I think:

(NOTE: All times mentioned are central unless stated otherwised)

SHOWS THEY SHOULD PICK UP:

1) I think one sitcom TVLand should really considering getting the rights to again is ALICE. The show ran for 9 seasons (1976-1985), and had 202 episodes. There's no point in letting the 202 episodes sit around gathering dust (the show hasn't been shown anywhere at all since January 2001), while other shows such as Gilligan's Island, which I like, has been airing it's 98 episodes for years, and The Munsters, which I also like, has been also airing it's 70 episodes for years. Come on TVLand, give Alice, Flo, Vera and the others a decent timeslot. I remember exactly when I really started enjoying the show: back when TNN aired the reruns in summer 1999 Monday through Friday at 5:00PM and 5:30PM. I think that if they can't get that same slot for the show, they can show it at least once a day, 6 days a week. I would really really REALLY REALLY like it if they aired it Monday through Friday at 9:00PM and 9:30PM, but of course that will forever be TVLand's Andy/Beaver Block.

2) I think another sitcom they should pick up, taking it from its (now disowned) sister station Nick at Nite, is THREE'S COMPANY. Viacom has the rights to the show 2000-2007, from 2000 to present it's been on N@N, and from Feb 2002 to Nov 2002, it was on TNN. I think it would be only right for TC to have at least two years on TVLand. I personally think TVLand should welcome the show, sometime between fall 2003 and Spring 2004, with the 48-Hour Fandemonium Marathon that fans didn't get to see for the last weekend of 2001 (remember it was replaced by Beaver). After that, the show should have a nice primetime slot (along with choice #3 on this list) at 7:00PM, a slot in the mornings at around 8:30AM, and a slot late at night at around 2:30AM. Then around 2006, the should have a 6 month break ending with a going away marathon night if Viacom doesn't decide to renew the rights.

3) I really believe that TVLand isn't making any effort at all to bring back LAVERNE & SHIRLEY, but I think they should try to get it back. It can come back a few weeks or months before TC would come, with 7:30PM and 1:00PM/1:30PM timeslots. Whenever the new contract runs out, they can air a 48-Hour Marathon to kiss it goodbye.

4) Another show that they seem no effort to show much is MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN. They just don't know that they are missing the oppourtunity of a lifetime by not showing MHMH and Soap back-to-back during daytime (with other timeslots during the day that help speed up Mary's 325 episode run). I would like to see them seven days a week, one at 11:00AM and the other at 11:30AM, with Mary coming on againMonday-Friday at 10:00PM/10:30PM.

SHOWS THAT DESERVE BETTER TIMESLOTS

1) The first show that I think deserves a much better slot is CHARLIE'S ANGELS. It came back to TVLand in January 2002, after an absence, and ran up until late 2002, then returned, and is still on. The main problem with that is that it has been in the 4:00AM timeslot the whole time since Jan. '02.

I'm gonna finish this later lol I got motivated to start my "Charlie's Angels" website.

I love TVLand - it's my favorite channel.

I would like to see The Odd Couple put on - sometime, any time during the day, early day.

As for Charlies' Angels. I LOVE the show. I actually drag my weary butt out of bed every morning at 4:55 a.m. to change the channel from Nick to TVLand so I can tape Charlie's Angels :) It wouldn't matter what time it was on, I'd still tape it. :)

I'd also like to see some Med drama's like Trapper John or Quincy.

I'm not a big fan of the Donna Reed/Beaver/Gilligan stuff so I'd love to see some new shows :)

One sitcom TV Land should think about and may consider is to get the rights to all 156 episodes of The Lucy Show. From what I am aware of, The Lucy Show is one of the few sitcoms that hasn't been airing on a nation network for more than five years. While other shows like The Andy Griffith Show and Leave It To Beaver have been airing non-stop for years literally. Watching the same episodes from the same show gets boring and humdrum. TV Land, please re-consider getting the rights to The Lucy Show.

I think TV Land is getting Better. I just wish TV Land will get a better Prime Time. They seemed to repeat the same thing in the after Noon.

Honestly, the only thing I watched over there lately is Archie Bunker's Place. Now I don't even bother to watch that. I just set the vcr to record it. I can't watch Sanford and Son at 6, because another one of my favorite shows comes on then. Ditto to Beaver and Andy Griffith. Never can catch the other times they come on. Batman is on way too late.

I guess if you asked me which shows I'd like to see on TVL, I'd prob. say play the rest of the Archie Bunker's Place episodes. Put Gloria on during the Kitschen thing. Maybe add DS and FOL in a few years. Add AITF when N @ N drops it. Maybe give it a few weeks break. Don't add it like the second N @ N drops it. That's all the shows I really care to see on the station.

TV Land is my favorite channel, But if i were to change a few things i would do this.

I Would Get rid of the 2nd Airings. Like After 8 They Show Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Sanford and Son, Gilligan's Island, Andy Griffith Show and Leave It To Beaver. When they just aired them all hours earlier, I Say stop that. And i would use the 8-11 Timeslot for these new shows

8:00 - Newhart
8:30 - Laverne and Shirley
9:00 - Diff'rent Strokes
9:30 - The Odd Couple
10:00 - The Jeffersons
10:30 - WKRP In Cincinatti

And i would add Joanie Loves Chachi, Sanford, Gloria to The Kitschen.

It sucks, plain and simple. Nothing good to watch.

ABP leaves, I won't watch ANYTHING on there. Well, maybe the kitschen.

It needs some rare and short-lived shows.

TV Land does have a couple short-lived and rare shows in their TV Land Kitschen line-up, and there are even some on their regular schedule. For instance: Welcome Back, Kotter; Gidget (Coming Soon); The Flying Nun (Coming Soon); Archie Bunker's Place; Square Pegs; and The Munsters.

But I agree, they do need MORE one hit wonders. I also think they should incorporate some short-lived shows into their regular line-up, some of them being from the TV Land Kitschen.

Other than that, I would like to see TV Land add some shows that ran on Nick-at-Nite previously, for example: The Facts of Life; Diff'rent Strokes; Three's Company; Laverne & Shirley etc.
I think think Archie Bunker's Place should run on Nick-at-Nite, and I think Gloria should be added to a future TV Land Kitschen line-up and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman should be added to the regular line-up, along with My Favorite Martian.

There are a few shows that deserve better time-slots on TV Land, some of them, that have been drowned in a late-night slot/early-morning slot like Batman; The Adventures of Superman; and Charlie's Angels.

Overall, I like TV Land. They need to add a few shows (i.e. Laverne and Shirley, Taxi, Maude, All in the Family) and cut down on the Twice as Nice, but they show some good shows and they've made good decisions about which ones to limit or can.

I LOVE TV LAND...

I would like to see "TWICE AS NICE" gone so that we can get more variety in the afternoon shows.

I was always a fan of "FANDEMONIUM WEEKENDS".

PRIMETIME isn't too bad. I'm ready to see Gilligan's Island put to rest. I'd like to see The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Bob Newhart Show in primetime. I'm unable to catch these shows in the morning.

BOX SETS are great! Time to come up with some different ones!!

Best station in the nation !!

I'd like to see them pick up Family Affair again Please Don't Eat the Daisies. I don't like Sanford and Son at all so I wouldn't care if they got rid of that.

Aren't you also forgetting I Love Lucy?

Anyways, I barely ever watch TVLAND. The only show I sometimes watch is Archie Bunker's Place. I really want them to air Peticoat Junction again, that used to be my favorite TVLAND show. I also used to like Mr. Ed too.

Exactly. It's been in syndication for nearly 50 years and I think TVLand should give it a rest for a few years. That way, fans will be craving for it more while it's gone. In the meantime, they could all All in the Family since it's off N@N's sked and not airing anywhere.

TV Land has been my favorite network for quite awhile. It aired both Adam-12 and The Love Boat. But Adam-12 was dropped a long time ago, and as of March 31, Love Boat will be gone as well.
Hopefully, TV Land will add some diversity to their line-up, or show programs that I used to enjoy, like Benson, Trapper John MD, or Fantasy Island.
I do know that as April begins, I won't be watching the network as much...:(

TV Land needs more variety. It needs to air the repeats late at night, and other programming earlier in the day.

Move Twice as Nice back to mornings, and move the morning programming to the afternoon (2pm-7pm)

Something like this:
7am Gilligan's Island
8am The Brady Bunch
9am Happy Days
10am Archie Bunker's Place OR Welcome Back Kotter OR My Favorite Martian
11am Sanford & Son
12pm-2pm SAME
2pm The Love Boat
3pm Get Smart
3:30 Bob Newhart
4pm Mary Tyler Moore
4:30 Dick Van Dyke
5:00 Leave it to Beaver
5:30 I Love Lucy
6:00 The Honeymooners
6:30 Barney Miller
7:00 Andy Griffith
7:30 Leave it to Beaver

I'd really just like the morning programming moved to the afternoon and vice versa.

Eh, I dont really watch it that much. I'm always sleeping when The Mary Tyler Moore Show is on and if I am up I usually watch The Nanny instead. I occasionally catch The Dick Van Dyke Show at 2 am, but if Any Day Now is on Lifetime (when they actually do play it!) I watch that instead. I guess I'm burnt out on the TV Land stuff. I've got those two shows memorized already so, but I'm all for Bewitched coming to TV Land as long as it doesn't get a horrible time after the premiere. I hate when that happens. Well, I've always got my tapes. :D

I like TVLand, but I would like if they did Lucy afternoons. One episode of each of Lucille Ball's shows, except for the short lived one from the mid 80;s.I would also like it if they would air The Patty Duke show.
