I've got my resume all written out (and Its a kick ass resume) and I'm all ready to go out looking for a job. I need tips or some advice.... How can I make a good first impression? what should I say or shouldn't say? where are some good places I could work at? (no fast food) what should I say during the interview? what should I wear?

any advice?

Don't be late! Employers take that personally and if you're late for your interview, it sticks in their mind that you'll probably make a habit out of it. Dress formal. Suit and tie would be best. Also, make sure you have a good, firm handshake. A weak handshake means you crack under pressure, and that you're probably not good enough for the job. If you have these down, you should be fine!

Make sure you make eye contact with the interviewer and speak clearly.

I dont really have any advice because I'm TERRIBLE at job searching, I hate interviews I get so nervous...but I wanted to wish you luck :)

My teacher told me this...of course I haven't used this info b4 cuz I'm 13. If the interviewer interviews u over lunch...NEVER put salt on b4 tasting the food first. They notice that...and I think she says it shows ur not logical or something or other...*shrugs* just don't do it.

I've only been to one job interview and I don't remember it. But I must have done okay. It was only for retail.

I'll have to get into that crap in May.

I learned about this in my Co.Op class last semester..Basically just do what everyone else said. Dress nicely (not flashy) something in like earth tones or something, don't chew gum, don't wear too strong of perfume or cologne, & speak correctly...Don't be redneck like me & talk like, "I'd like to have this here job sos I kin buy me a new pick-up truck...blah,blah" lol. One mistake people make when speaking and most don't notice or even know, but don't put the words "at", "to", or "for" at the end of sentences. My mom pointed this out to me b/c about every 0.2 I would say something like, "Where's that at?" or "Why'd you do that for?"
It's apparently wrong to speak this way & it was a hard habit to break, but once I got over it, I can't stand to hear people talk this way. It's just unnecessary to add those extra words & you'll just sound smarter in front of your future employer if you speak correctly.

Just be yourself, make some eye contact, and dont interrupt them!!

LOL, good to know. I automatically salt everything before I taste it and I always end up being right (I never over salt). Hey, I'd just tell the employer I have good instincts. :lol:

Geez, does a poor little college student just trying to get my edumication need a resume? I have NOTHING to put on a resume. I need some good places to work too. Is there anything out there for poor little college students that pays above minumum wage? I also am on the look out for jobs in the health care field... give me some ideas there. Name anything health care. Oh but, answer *GoodMorningCalgary*, because this is his thread! :wave:

Gah...my resume sucks too. And now that's it's May...job hunting time. Grrr....
