View Full Version : Whatever happened to Nathaniel Taylor
teddybare 03-05-2003, 03:29 AM Whatever happened to Nathaniel Taylor who played Rollo Lawson on Sanford and Son I havent seen him on anything in many years.
I always liked Rollo and Fred trading insults very funny man any info would be appreciated
DarleneIllyria 03-05-2003, 03:51 AM That guy is a total mystery. I posted something a couple of years ago, and I think I got some replies but I don't think it was any definite news about Nathaniel. I would love to see a pic of him now.
teddybare 03-05-2003, 04:19 AM You are so right about Nathaniel Taylor its like he was blacklisted by Hollywood You see Demond every now and then I know he's an Evangelist and Is doing or trying to do some of his own movie or tv stuff producing directing etc., Both Demond and Nathaniel are in there 60's now hard to believe as Fred would say Been Alot of years LOL
maxcarey 03-05-2003, 07:20 AM The last time Taylor was seen as a performer was in the 1986 "The Redd Foxx Show" on ABC. In addition to appearing in Sanford and Son and the spinoff Sanford, he was also in the 1980 Steve McQueen movie "The Hunter."
IIRC, I read somewhere on the net (it must be true then:) ) that Taylor simply retired from acting and Hollywood and returned to a normal life. There was a rumor that he was dead, but that was unfounded.
AtlantaBravesFan29 03-05-2003, 10:59 AM In fact, there are only 4 people left from Sanford and Son that are alive, Demond, Nathaniel,Lynn Hamilton, and Hal Williams, who played Smitty the policeman. I don't know whatever happened to the actors who played Swanny and Hoppy the policemen who were always with Smitty.
maxcarey 03-05-2003, 03:55 PM Noam Pitlik, who played Officer Swanhauser in the first season passed away in 1999.
However, in addition to Demond Wilson, Lynn Hamilton and Hal Williams, the following cast members of Sanford and Son are still with us:
Pat Morita (Ah Chew)
Gregory Sierra (Julio Fuentes)
Howard Platt (Officer Hopkins "Hoppy")
I could not find any verification if the actors/actresses who played Uncle Woodrow, Janet Lawson and Roger Lawson are still living.

It's still sad that Pat Morita is now no longer with us. He and Gregory Sierra actually appeared in the same Hawaii Five-O episode from 1973, "Tricks Are Not Treats".
Big Fred Fan 01-09-2009, 08:10 AM After a few appearances on S & S spinoff's and playing "Ike" on "What's Happenin'", Nate has pretty much dropped out of sight living a quiet existence off of his S & S and other TV royalties in his hometown of St. Louis. He celebrated his 70th birthday on March 31st of 2008. Rollo, Rita Larson's boy, was one extra cool dude jack!
I've been searching for some time now and cannot seem to find any recent pics of Nate. I have friends who live on Enright St. in St. Louis, which is where the Sanfords originated, who claim to have witnessed "RRS" (rare Rollo sightings). From what they say, he is a very private person. I will continue my quest for pics and if successful will share.

Steven222 08-06-2012, 04:01 PM Nathaniel Taylor still resides in the Los Angeles area with his son. My barber at Magnificent Brothers Barber Shop on Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles (Leimert Park area) mentioned that he comes in for a haircut from time to time at the shop. I inquired about him and left my number so I could get in touch with him but haven't heard from him as of yet.
rollo's girl 08-07-2012, 07:36 PM Rollo is my man, jack, and I'd go out with him, beaujoleis or not! :loveya: :loveya:
TVFactFan 08-07-2012, 11:46 PM Nathaniel Taylor was born the same year as Sherman Hemsley, never realized that
Glad to hear he is doing well

I would have your barber call you the next time he comes in and go there and meet him in person if you can.
loaferman 08-11-2012, 08:36 AM Here is the pic http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=264408. Definitely looks like him. Obviously there is at least one imposter as there are for other often rarely seen people from movies and TV. I find it hard to believe he still "makes a living" off residuals.

Neutronman67 03-03-2013, 04:06 PM The man had a hard time finding himself work after Sanford and Son was cancelled Nathaniel Taylor was not that good of an actor ok but nothing special.
