What are some of the most depressing made for tv movies that you've seen and why?

Sybil was very depressing. But I loved it! Joanne Woodward and Sally Field really made it so watchable! :) I think knowing that something was a true story makes it so much more depressing knowing that there really are very evil and demented people in this world! (Sybil's mother):eek:

The Tracey Thurman story was definatly depressing. I agree with you on that 100%. One that I thought that was depressing was A Mother's Right: The Elizabeth Morgan Story.

The Tracy Thurman Story was hardly depressing, but still somewhat sad. The recent Profoundly Normal was quite depressing at points, especially in the beginning. But that Gilda Radner film was the first time that I had ever cried in front of the TV. In the end, when Gene and Gilda are walking into the light...timeless to me. It was called "It's Always Something: The Gilda Radner Story".

I thought in my sisters shadow was kind of depressing. Also The Gilda Radner story, Ann Frank, & Tuesdays with Morrie actually this one was more sad then depressing

"The Day After" (from 1983) was pretty depressing. It was about the aftermath of nuclear war told from the viewpoint of people living in Kansas.

But the most depressing TV movie of all time, no doubt, was "Survivng". It was on in 1985 and it featured Molly Ringwald and Zach Gallagin (Gremlins) as 2 teens who commit suicide and its effect on their families (who are friends).
Man it was rough stuff.

omg, Surviving was SO depressing....have to agree with you on that one.

There was one that came out in the early eighties called Who Will Love My Children. It was a true story about this lady who was dying of Cancer and she was determined to find adoptive homes for her 10 kids before she died.

Any Lifetime or Lifetime Movie Network movies.

Right. :confused: The lady gets beaten by her husband, eventually stabbed and paralyzed on half of her body, but thats not depressing. Right.

Something About Amelia, the story about incest with Ted Danson.

I totally agree! The fact that it really happened makes it even more depressing. I remember I had been wanting to watch this movie for a long time and when I finally did I was so enraged at seeing the scene with him stabbing her and the cops standing there not really helping much at all, that I recorded over it. I didn't want to keep it.

Most of them are depressing. That's why I asked which one is the most depressing. Some are a lot more depressing than others. I agree that pretty much all the lifetime movies are sad.

The Tracy Thurman story W/ Nancy McKean is a very sad movie....
